A Brazilian wax down under

July 9, 2007 Paris B 32 Comments

I was walking around in Bangsar and saw a store called Ministry of Strip which is a store that does waxing, including brazilian waxes. I was quite surprised to see it, for things like Brazilian waxes aren’t things that are advertised openly here.

For the uninitiated, a Brazilian wax is the waxing of the pubic hair or bikini area. Sounds painful eh? It is, I heard. Someone I know tried to do it herself instead of paying a professional, and could not get out of the house for a week! I’m not kidding! You don’t really want to be messing around with hot wax or wax strips down below.

If you have heard of a Brazilian wax and are interested to try it, it would be a good idea to do some research about it online first, so you have an idea what to expect. You could read my Brazilian Waxing Guide to read up about what it is and what it entails.

A Brazilian wax is a scary thought for me. However, it might not be for you, especially if you enjoy wearing bikinis or swimsuits that are cut high on the legs. Getting a Brazilian wax may be the best way to hide any unsightly bumps from shaving, or unwanted stray hairs.

If you have had a Brazilian wax done, I would love to hear about it!

Update: If you’d like to read about my experience of a Brazilian Wax or my tips on how to prepare for a Brazilian Wax session please read my post here. I will have reviews on waxing salons to come too!

No, no, and a million times no. The pain’s bloody unbearable (try just plucking one of your pubes. Yeah, exactly), and you end up looking like a prune down there.

Anyways, I think it’s simply pervy that men like a clean-shaven woman. It’s like lusting after little girls. Euuuw.

So nopes for me on the Brazilian. I do encourage regular *ahem* grooming though 😉

PB says: LOL! Not speaking from the voice of experience? 😉 But yes, I agree with you. Its not natural to be clean shaven in women – grown women I mean…

I finally tried it a few weeks ago and I have to say that it’s not as painful as it is said to be. You also don’t need to go the full monty either, the lady usually asks if you want to leave a strip or go all bare. I wasn’t used to seeing it like that at first after doing it but now I can say that it definitely seems to be cleaner and neater and wouldn’t mind doing it again. 🙂

I’ve done it several times at The Strip, Bangsar. Been doing it on and off every 1-2 months. It is painful but bearable. Plus, you get used to it after sometime. I take the “all off” treatment as it feels the cleanest. Btw, im a guy, so that may be a surprise (even shocking) for some 🙂

I’ve done it more than 5 times now. It became a routine for me that I would go back there at leasr once a month. Top part was painfull but bearable…bottom no problem for me. My hubby like it clean, so i go for “all off”. Worth doing.

PB says: I’m going to have to think about it. Thanks for the feedback

Glad to see there are no negative comments on Strip. Will be going there upon the recommendation of a friend. First time attempting waxing in Malaysia. Hope it will be as good as the ones I’ve had in England & China!

    Hey there waxing fanatics!
all i can say is, not only Strip does the “down under” i suggest try that Ozmosis down at Telawi 2, upstairs La Bodega.
Been going there for my regular monthly “torture” for 3 years now. Look for that lady who is damn good at doing it, not on Mondays she is very famous for waxing, obviously, she’s doing a good job so needed pre booking to get her.
Not cheap, but just a piece of advise…don’t go for neophytes waxers, won’t do any good esp for brazilian virgin.
    have fun!!

Why? Are you working for Ozmosis? You sound “over-enthusiatic”.

    Hey girl!
If you go for first time…they charges (ozmosis bangsar-up la bodega) rm130, will only take you 15mins of pain but hell lot of pleasure that will lasts for weeks!
they are giving some routine packages though so up to you if tend to do it once a month (recommended) then better fo for it..cheaper and fast..hygienic too.

i know this is overdue but i stumbled upon your blog as i was looking for the interior picture of strip… 😀 i’ve gone brazillian for about 3 times at strip and until now i’m still shy about it. i love the fact they are very professional in every sense (no double dipping of wax -mean the spatulas are change at every application, gloves, detailed work etc) by the therapists. would recommend ppl to go there and at least have an experience of it. (if not brazillian wax, there are other parts of the body u can do e.f eyebrow, upper lip, fingers..). apart from there, do try their pedi/manicure!

I have Brazilian waxes regularly and have had them at various places both in the UK (I study there) and here in KL. I used to go to Glitters but after having been to Strip… oh my. It’s so painless it’s unbelievable! After discovering it in March this year, I have refused to go elsewhere. They’re professional, they know their techniques and they do one hell of a clean job! I would definitely recommend it to any first-timers and regulars.

I’ve been waxing for the last 3 years, tried many places including Strip, Glitters, Rupini, etc. I’ve never experienced painless waxing. Even after paying extra at Strip for their numbing spray, the pain is still there.

I tried Strip, The Curve (new opened) few days ago. Professional and hygiene service, cost RM114.50 and RM16 (soothing serum). They have individual rooms there, so felt very comfortable unlike other places which only have booths or covered by curtains.

I just went to Ozmosis…It was great!!! Ok there was pain..but as everyone said..its bearable pain…just the shyness is abit too much if its ur first time..but for me it was still okay..I went for the brazillian although they suggested i try the bikini waxing first since Im a first timer…It was funny to see myself so hairless dwn there..but i js cant wait to wear bikini without the fear of any stray hair!

And I didnt manage to try out RUBY…Michelle was the one who did it for me..she’s good too!!

Just got mine done at Glitters, as recommended by a friend. And as she said, very clean and fast. I asked for numbing spray, but was recommended to try without it first. Paid RM90 for all off, and save money from unnecessary numbing stuff.

    hi there all,

I highly recommend Strip. I heard about how good (quick, professional, and VFM) they were in Singapore and was excited when they opened up shop in KL.

Even then i was still apprehensive – as it would be my first. When i heard a few of my guy friends had already gone to do their boyzillians I decided to try out doing half leg first. And. Ended up doing the brazillian in the same session.

It was fast and professional. It is still painful (even using the hard wax – which is recommended for first-timers). But the therapists are understanding, work as quickly and as thoroughly as they can and do not prolong the experience. They know exactly where the painful spots are and will tell you to breathe in and breathe out at the critical points.

Since I went the first time late last year – I continue to go back every other month, and have in fact recommended several other friends who are also very happy with the service there.

In terms of necessity, well, it isn’t. But it’s heaven sent for those who often go to the beach and use bikinis etc. Just a whole load off the mind and you have that after event groomed feeling of ‘civilisation’ when you do it, as you would after a mani-pedi or a hairwash at the haridressers.

For me, there’s no real turning back. I absolutely love being throughly groomed. And after all, I did it for me, and not because someone asked to do it.

For those still considering – really do it for yourself, whether out of curiosity or you want to. And good luck. At Strip, you’re in safe hands.
