New! Affordable Sun Protection with Mentholatum Sunplay Skin Aqua UV Milk, Watery Cool Body Mist and After Sun Gel

July 26, 2013 Paris B 15 Comments

Summer season sees a surge in sunblocks and sunscreens, which for us here in the tropics is a year round affair. Are you tired of me banging on about using sunscreen daily already? Well, sorry babes, gonna keep banging on about it!

With the huge selection of affordable sunscreen on our shores, there really is no excuse not to use it. I have my favourite one and its pricey, I acknowledge, but for those on a tighter budget (and that includes me because I’ve just put myself on a beauty diet!) here are some new and affordable alternatives from Mentholatum.

Mentholatum brought in their Skin Aqua sunscreen a few years ago and like many Japanese style sunscreen, it has a very lovely light emulsion texture that makes wearing it very comfortable. For some reason, the Japanese have done for sunscreen what few Western brands have managed to do – make sunscreen comfortable to wear!

Previously, we had the Skin Aqua UV Moisture Milk but now there are another 2 products in their arsenal. The Skin Aqua UV Silky Smooth Milk SPF50 PA+++ and Skin Aqua UV Whitening Moisture Milk SPF50 PA+++ priced at an affordable RM35.90 each.

Mentholatum Sunplay Skin Aqua Silky BB Cream SPF29 PA++ : A Japan x Korea collaboration

June 20, 2011 Paris B 41 Comments

I’ve said often enough that I’m not that into BB Creams and the wonderful claims they proclaim to live up to. However, what with this brand and that brand available out there, I’m curious. I have since picked out one or two I rather like, but in the main, I’m still a little iffy about the whole BB Cream hype.

Today we have the Mentholatum Sunplay Skin Aqua Silky BB Cream that is quite readily available at our local pharmacies at a reasonably affordable price. This one comes in one shade as most BB Creams do, but in two different formula – Normal-Oily skin (Silky BB Cream) and Normal Dry skin (Moisture BB Cream). I broke into the Normal-Oily skin one, because from experience I’d realized that BB Creams tend to go on a little oily on my skin. Mentholatum is a Japanese brand, but this particular product was produced in collaboration with a Korean BB Cream company (unnamed).

In terms of texture, I must say that this one agrees with me quite well. It feels light on my skin and spreads quite easily leaving quite a nice finish. Its not very thick nor does it turn oily on my skin. I have to give it that. It actually feels lovely on and does not slide off throughout the day.

Mentholatum Sunplay UV Body Mist Sunblock : Hit or Mist?

April 13, 2011 Paris B 28 Comments

When I headed to a sunny island holiday, I realized that I’d be out and about frolicking in the sun so I packed my sunblock arsenal, and in there, I tossed this mist spray sunblock. I’d never used a spray sunblock before so this would be interesting. I figured it would make it easier (and more fun) to re-apply my sunblock, instead of rubbing the usual creamy white lotion all over – something I tend to get lazy with.

The Mentholatum Sunplay UV Body Mist Sunblock has been around a while, and it proclaims an impossibly high SPF80. If you look at the Sunplay series of sunscreen, they all boast very impossibly high SPF numbers. I’m never quite sure if it can really go that high to be honest. I’m not good at these things. I usually stick to SPF50 and anything over that is a bonus.

Application is easy peasy. It is an aerosol can, so just spray the fine mist all over your body, ensuring you cover every inch. The directions say you can also spray it on your face, but if you plan to, please make sure you close your eyes 😛 The spray mist is clear and cooling on the skin which is really nice in the heat of the sun. But really, do I like this?

New on the shelves: Garnier Light Cream, Sunplay Body Mist sunblock, Kanebo Milano powder, LipIce Color Shimmer lipbalm

January 15, 2011 Paris B 27 Comments

Hello Ladies!

I’ve been snooping around and picked up news of a couple of new things I thought I’d share with you. Most are already available so if you are interested you can run right out and get them 🙂

Garnier Light to lighten dark spots in 2 weeks

garnier light cream

The Garnier Light cream has been around for a while already. The bright yellow tub of cream contains lemon extract and snowpine whitesource (which is supposed to be 10 times more effective than Vitamin C for skin brightening). I personally have not used it but I know of some people who do and who do report that its good for them. It helps of course that its very affordable 🙂 So the cream itself isn’t new, but they have improved upon it so it now lightens skin within 2 weeks instead of 4. It comes with SPF17 PA++ for sunscreen protection (but do use additional sunscreen if you really want to protect your skin). If you have tried this, please share your thoughts on it 🙂

Garnier Skin Naturals Light Whiten & Even Moisturising Cream with SPF17 PA++ retails at RM19.90/50ml at leading pharmacies and retailers

Actual product reads SPF80 (I used the wrong image 😛 )

I spotted this in Guardian Pharmacy about 2 weeks ago. Actually my friend did and pointed out the SPF80 reading. I used to use Sunplay sunscreens quite a few years ago. They were small, slim and practical to tote around, plus they weren’t sticky. I just did not quite like the “papery” feel on my skin after application. I’m curious to see if this one will be the same since it promises to feel moisturizing.

Sunplay UV Body Mist Sunblock SPF80 PA++ retails at RM45.90/150ml at all leading pharmacies
