Sunscreen

Is the reformulated Shiseido Perfect UV Protector Wetforce Multi Defense SPF50+ PA++++ any good?

February 11, 2019 Paris B 25 Comments

From the day I first tried the Shiseido Perfect UV Protector sunscreen, I have been a loyal user and advocate. I know I’ve convinced many of you to use it, and despite the cost, it is one I truly swear by for efficacy and UV protection. Today, my attention has wandered to a more affordable option that unfortunately isn’t available in Malaysia. So for all those in Malaysia who ask, my recommendation still lies with the Shiseido Perfect UV Protector.

It has undergone a few revisions since the first time I tried it, and in the middle of last year, I was alerted that the new version was now called the Shiseido Perfect UV Protector Wetforce Multi-Defense SPF50+ PA++++

If you look at the picture you may be wondering what’s so different about it? After all, the last iteration was the Shiseido Perfect UV Protector Wetforce and the packaging is exactly the same. But look closer. This time, there’s an additional tag – Multi Defense.

But what grabbed my attention wasn’t the fact that it had changed, but that I had more than a handful of people tell me that they had a negative experience with the new version, and they now hated it. That got me curious.

My present Skincare Routine : The products don’t matter the routine does

January 16, 2019 Paris B 16 Comments

One of my most requested posts is my current skincare routine. I think the last time I posted one, it was back in 2017! I had good intentions then, to share my routine each month, but it didn’t pan out as I planned.

I too enjoy seeing what other people are using in their skincare routine, so I can understand the interest (I do short videos on Instagram Stories showing my almost daily day-night routine in real-time, if anyone’s interested). But there’s also something a little unhealthy I’ve noticed, that I’d like to address.

skincare routine 2019

Let me share first, my skincare routine thus far for 2019. Rather, this is what I’ve been using through 2018 and into 2019. What you may notice is that my routine and steps do not change. It is only the products that do.

And that is something I want you to hold in mind, as we run through my current skincare routine 🙂

A skincare routine should not be complicated : Focus on the 6 Pillars of Skincare

September 24, 2018 Paris B 27 Comments

I mentioned once before that we are in the Age of Skincare in the beauty world, and with it comes many self-proclaimed experts. Rather, sometimes, people confuse enthusiasts, like me, with an expert, which can lead to all sorts of problems.

But what I’ve really noticed, from following such experts and enthusiasts, it’s this – A skincare routine is now made out to be far more complicated than it used to be.

skincare is not complicated

But it doesn’t have to be.

I’m not saying of course, that the original 3-step skincare routine popularized by Clinique should be the way to go. While those 3 steps form the basic pillars of a skincare routine, I do believe that they can be supplemented and further strengthened by additional pillars.

I just don’t believe that you have to think so hard about it, nor believe that a complicated, multi-product, multi-layered skincare routine will be the best thing for your skin 😛

Drop everything! I’ve just found my current favourite affordable sunscreen in the Kanebo Allie Extra UV Perfect SPF50+ PA++++ sunscreen!

August 27, 2018 Paris B 39 Comments

It was hard not to go crazy buying up all the skincare in sight while I was in Japan earlier this year. Very hard. It helped that there was a language barrier – it prevented me from quite literally falling for every product out there! Yet, I managed to hoard a number of items, predominantly sunscreen, and one that caught your eye was the Kanebo Allie Extra Perfect UV Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ I showed in some of my pictures back then.

Quite a few of you asked me about it, but I wasn’t comfortable sharing, as I’d quite literally opened it up to use while in Japan, and it was too new to actually form an opinion on. I wanted to come home where the heat and humidity is high, to see how I’d like it. Then, I wanted to really put it through its paces, so I took it to the beach, where I spent an ungodly amount of time in the sun and by the pool.

I wanted to be very sure about how I felt about this one. This was because I’d already fallen in love with it while in Japan, and I really really wanted to know if it was as good for me as its first impression was.

Happily, or unhappily, I think this is the perfect successor for me, to my long-time favourite, the Shiseido Perfect UV sunscreen. The latter has been reformulated this year where the name now states “Multi-Defense” and before you ask, no I have not yet tried it. I know I should, but I am working through other sunscreens I own (I need to before they go off – 2 years shelf life for best efficacy!) and to be honest, I’ve read too many unhappy comments about this new formula – enough to put me off trying.

Well, let’s just say that I’m not actively looking to try the Shiseido one either, because this Kanebo Allie Extra UV Perfect sunscreen has me very happy with it. And yet sad.
