Bags

Hej! Will this Classic Gaston Luga Backpack suit your lifestyle as it does mine?

August 25, 2017 Paris B 14 Comments

I have, what seems like a lifetime choice of bags in my bag closet, and yet, the one style I’ve been gravitating towards in recent times, is the backpack. I’d sclep around in a casual outfit, toting my things in one of two backpacks I own. So, when Gaston Luga said “Hej!” all the way from Stockholm, Sweden and asked if I might like to try out their new range of backpacks, I said “Tack så mycket!“ (“Thank you very much!” in Swedish – No I don’t speak Swedish. My limit of Swedish ends at “Ikea” LOL)

Gaston Luga is a new Swedish brand specialising in backpacks with canvas and leather bodies. The minimalistic designs sit well with the current trend of minimalism and the clean, simple lines of Scandinavian design. They have a few different ranges, but I picked one in the classic range, in the very practical Black on Black colour – black leather accessories on black canvas.

There is a reason I picked this design, which I’ll tell you about, and I’ll also show you what fits in my Gaston Luga Classic Backpack, and if you’re interested in it, I also have a discount code! 😀

I gave in to the bag lust! Now let me tell you about that elusive Mansur Gavriel Mini Bucket Bag

June 13, 2016 Paris B 27 Comments

I did say I had a bag lust that would not die, didn’t I? So, what is a girl to do? Give in, of course. Well, this one did, when browing Net-a-Porter one day, and seeing one of the elusive Mansur Gavriel bucket bags pop up online.

Truth is, these bags aren’t very elusive anymore. Not the way it was about a year or so back, when it was nigh impossible to snag any online. I have spoken to friends who put themselves on waitlists, and who would wake up in the middle of the night (here in Malaysia) to snag themselves one. I refused to give in to that frenzy, keeping a “If it’s meant to be, I’ll get it eventually” approach. And I did! I think it’s because we’re reaching saturation point, where the demand has primarily been met, and perhaps supply has been increased so it’s much easier to get one these days.

I’ve been asked by a few people what I think of the Mansur Gaviel Bucket Bag and if it’s worth the money, hence this post. The first thing I’ll say is this:-

  • If you’re paranoid about the fact the bag has no proper closure except for the drawstring that barely keeps the bag closed, or
  • If you’re paranoid about keeping your bags in a pristine, just came in from the factory look, or
  • If you have a more formal fashion sense, or
  • If you don’t like bags hitting against your hip, or
  • If you don’t like too large or too small bags,

then you should just let your bag lust die, and skip this altogether. You will likely hate this and consider it a waste of money. As for me, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship.

Your Say: Do you carry colourful bags or do you stick to classic, neutral colours?

March 1, 2016 Paris B 39 Comments

If there’s one predominant colour in my wardrobe, it’s black. It’s mostly for a very simple reason – black goes with everything. I also find that black is the easiest colour to style, allowing any colour against it to pop, and it’s also easy to get away with wearing black for any occasion – well, almost any occasion.

But in my bag wardrobe, it’s a whole different story altogether.

Black accessories, or bags in particular, are in the minority. When it comes to my accessories, I tend to gravitate towards brighter shades – red, blue, green… any colour is game. In fact, I recently realised that black and brown is highly under-represented in my bag wardrobe.

Naturally, I got to wondering if I’m in the majority or minority here. Do you wear more black or neutral coloured bags or do you go for brighter colours?

Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag – The bag lust that would not die

February 26, 2016 Paris B 25 Comments

There are some bag lusts that you think will die over time and with the rising hype…. and then they don’t. Ugh! Don’t you hate it when that happens?!

For me, this bag lust that refuses to die is for the Mansur Gavriel Bucket Bag. I’d spotted it online, not long after it first gained traction. But it was always (and still is always) almost impossible to get hold of one. Or at least, one in a colour that you really want.

The one I’m most keen on would be the original version, in the smooth calf leather, with a black exterior and a bright red interior. That contrast of colours is eye catching and not often found. But this is also the one that’s hardest to get hold of, because this is the one everyone wants! 😛

The Mansur Gavriel bucket bag comes in 2 sizes – the regular and the mini, which is seen on the model above. Having had the luxury of pawing at both sizes on 2 different people lucky enough to snag one for themselves in recent times, I’ve decided that the mini size would be better for me. The regular one just feels a little too large.

But all that’s for naught, if I can’t get hold of it can I?! And that brings me to why I feel like my bag lust should just die already.
