Truth to tell, despite all the wonderful things I’ve read and been told about how great Argan oil is for the skin, it eludes me. In the past, I’ve broken out from using argan oil, so as I do when that happens, I stay away.
Then, the lovely folks at Melvita said, “Hey PB, there’s this new great serum out, would you please have a go? But erm… it has Argan Oil….” And being the sucker for punishment that I am, I said “Bring it on!” LOL!
So that’s how the Melvita Argan Concentrate Pur Youthful Serum-Oil and Cream-Oil landed in my hands. I was more interested to know if this popular oil, known to help for softening lines and firming skin, might break me out again.
My secondary interest was in the oil-serum. I love using facial oils, as you may know, and a product that touts itself as an ‘oil-serum’ really tickles my fancy!
Who is the Melvita Argan Concentrate Pur range for?
I have a bad habit of not reading literature before delving into a product. I like to discover things for myself, before seeing if that’s what the brand recommends.
The first thing I realised when using the Melvita Argan Concentrate Pur range, is that it is best suited for those who are starting to experience skin-aging. I define it thus – drier skin and first sign of lines.
For many of us, I’d put it at for those in their early 30s. But if you lead a busy lifestyle or have a lot of late night, smoke, are genetically inclined to mature more quickly, then this number will come down to the mid-20s. Work with your skin, not your age.
Because Melvita is a natural and organic skincare brand, it is also for those who want something to tackle the first signs of aging, but who want something organic to put on their skin. Oils help nourish the skin and help it stay moisturized and plumped thereby reducing the appearance of lines.
What does the Melvita Argan Concentrate Pur range do?
It tackles the first signs of aging by reducing the appearance of fine lines, and firming skin. It claims to ‘redefine facial contours’, which I take to mean that it firms skin thereby ‘lifting’ it. But I think that is something you will have to notice over a long period of time and use.
For this range, Melvita blends argan oil into their products. Argan Oil is well known to not only nourish the skin, but is also claimed that it helps with “anti-aging” properties.
Melvita Argan Concentrate Pur Youthful Oil-Serum – RM240 | €38 for 30ml
The Melvita Argan Concentrate Pur Youthful Oil-Serum is, as the name implies, just that – a serum that is an oil.
The texture is very light, which makes this a good starter oil for those who are new to using facial oils. It is also easily absorbed into the skin, without a heavy, greasy after feel.
I do find however, that the packaging could be better improved on. For starters, it shouldn’t be put in such a tall bottle. The product is dispensed by way of a dropper, and a long dropper in a tall bottle is a recipe for disaster, if one were careless.
The second thing I noticed was that the glass dropper was not positioned properly, so it is slanted. You can move it so it is straight, but that means that it isn’t sturdy. I found the construction rather flimsy.
As a product however, it is a decent facial oil. I personally find it very light, so I can even use it in the day time, if my skin is feeling dry. It leaves skin feeling more comforted, and while I cannot vouch for its line-erasing properties, I suppose it will help, as it nourishes the skin over time.
Because it is so light, this makes it a good oil to drop into foundations, for a more dewy finish, or to blend with cream, to make it feel more nourishing for the skin. I used to recommend the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil for a starter facial oil, but I might switch to suggesting this instead, because it has no fragrance, and no potentially irritating lavender oil, and is therefore better suited for those with sensitive skin.
In this Youthful Oil-Serum, Melvita blends the Argan oil with an amino acid (Dipalmitoyl Hydroxyproline), to help target these first signs of aging. For this reason, this is not a straight Argan Oil (Melvita also makes argan oil) but a blended product, although they say that it contains at least 17% of Argan Oil.
I don’t recommend this for use as a mask, as I do with the Pai Rosehip oil, because it isn’t thick enough. If you are used to using facial oils, this will in fact, feel too light. But if you are new, start here. It’s a good place to start.

Melvita Argan Concentrate Pur Youthful Cream-Oil – RM231 | €34 for 50ml
The Melvita Argan Concentrate Pur Youthful Cream Oil is the accompanying moisturiser in the range. I was taken by it purely because it was called a “cream-oil”.
I have drier, more matured skin, and I gravitate towards creams for my moisturiser. If you have an oily or combination skin type, or prefer using emulsions, you may find this formula a little heavy.
While I find that the cream itself is quite solid, it melts quite comfortably in the warmth of your palms, so it makes it very easy to spread on the skin. It does not feel heavy as a balm or heavier cream does. What it feels is like a lightweight cream, to me.
I personally find the cream a little light for my preferences, especially for use at night, and even for use in the day. I prefer something a little heavier or that has more oils in them. If you feel that way as well, dropping a few drops of the Youthful Oil-Serum into the cream makes it feel more comfortable for use.
However in the day, it sinks into my skin, keeping it nourished and moisturised for the day without being greasy.
I personally like the texture, which isn’t silky nor velvety with the slip of silicones. It just feels like a cream that melts into the skin, and for me, this is one of the best types of formula there is in the market. It is for this reason that I have cut back on using creams that are heavy with silicones, as my skin does not like that texture anymore.
I hesitate to recommend this off the bat, as I know the heavier texture will not sit very well with many people. But if you are looking for a heavier cream for the evening, or if you use just very little, and want a cream moisturiser instead of a lightweight emulsion or gel moisturiser, then this is also a good place to start. The texture is comfortable, it nourishes the skin, and really, you cannot ask for more.
If you have more matured skin however, then you might prefer the Melvita Nectar Supreme Cream instead. That is one of my favourites from Melvita, and I went through 2 tubs before eventually toddling off to find something else.

Have you tried this Melvita Argan Concentrate Pur range?
I’ve found quite an affinity with Melvita, especially if I want something that is natural and/or organic. Compared to many natural or organic skincare brands, their textures appeal to me, and they have a big (and fairly affordable) range of pure facial oils, for those who’d rather use that 🙂 Do you have a favourite from Melvita?

Oh wow, I’m surprised that Argan oil broke you out Paris, it’s one of the lighter oils out there! But there you go…
I absolutely love the Nectar Supreme Cream that I got to try thanks to you! 😀 The Argan oil-serum doesn’t appeal to me because it doesn’t have much in it (Argan oil included…) IMO. But the cream looks lovely as a day cream 🙂
I wish we had Melvita stores here in Aus 🙁

Yes, I didn’t understand it either – but I found that straight oils don’t do much for my skin. I prefer blends as I find them more potent. So very happy that you enjoyed using the Nectar Supreme cream! It is so lush isn’t it?! And I didn’t know that Melvita wasn’t sold in Australia! Now, that’s a surprise!
