With YSL Beauty back in Malaysia let me share one of my faves – the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick

Most of you would have been aware of the huge excitement surrounding the re-entry of YSL Beauty into Malaysia recently. They were here many years ago, but pulled out, and are now back, with lines still happening outside their solo store in Pavilion KL, waiting for the free engraving. Hmm… Know what? I still haven’t visited the YSL Beauty store! LOL! Not one to queue for this, me.

I’ve been getting many queries from people, asking me “Is YSL really all that? Are their lipsticks really as nice as everyone claims them to be?” Because you see, they can’t be arsed to queue either! LOL! 😀

Well, I have to say that I can understand why their lipsticks get a lot of love. They’re beautiful to look at, lovely to hold, and have beautiful colours. Also, I believe they’re probably one of the more affordable items in store to buy 😛 Don’t quote me – haven’t stepped into the store, remember? 😀

I have a couple of the famed YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick lipsticks, so I’d just quickly share some thoughts with you. For the record, have also tried Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks (square packaging) but I’m not a fan of those – too drying.

I’d been coming across this skincare trend (I say trend, because I don’t foresee it lasting) called the 7-Skin Method. Apparently, it originates from Korea, and this method of applying toner (lotion) is supposed to infuse your skin with moisture and hydration and to make your skin feel supple, soft and oh-so-moisturised!

Naturally, I got curious.

While called the 7-skin method, it really only refers to the use of toner or lotion. Apparently, in Korean skincare, toner/lotion = skin. Search me. Don’t shoot the messenger!

Now, the 7-Skin Method is performed thus:-

After cleansing, you take a toner/lotion, preferably a light, hydrating one, and pat onto your skin, with a piece of cotton pad, or with your hands.
Allow it to dry for about 2-3 minutes, and repeat.
Do this up to 7 times. Be patient.
Conclude with a light moisturiser.

I attempted this all of twice. Yes, my skin did feel lovely and hydrated with a lovely healthy glow to it, but seriously. Who has the time? 😛

I may be dedicated with my skincare routines, but not even I was crazy enough to spend 15 minutes just applying toner. Then, I saw that some people felt the same way I did, and cut their routine down to a 3-Skin Routine. Similar concept, except you only do 3 layers. That was still 10 minutes too long for me.

However, despite my grumbling and rolling my eyes, I noticed one day, that I was, in fact, already practising a modified version of the 7-Skin or 3-Skin Method! I was already doing this all along, and hadn’t realised it! Might this be why I had been reaping the benefits of my skincare all along? 😀

So, let me tell you how to use my modified 7-Skin Method or 3-Skin Method and why it works, and that it is far quicker than this tedious 3-Skin or 7-Skin Method.

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m always up to try a new facial oil. Ever since I discovered how lovely it was for my skin that’s maturing and turning drier over time, I’ve always made space in my skincare routine for a facial oil. Naturally, when an offer dropped earlier in the year to try a new facial oil, I jumped at the offer. I mean, who wouldn’t really LOL!

The brand, Nourish, is one I came across about a year back and then promptly forgot about. You know how it is, don’t you? Sometimes something flits past your consciousness, and if you don’t focus, it disappears, just like a flash of lightning. Nourish is a brand of organic skincare that hails from London, and I think, is fairly new and a little niche.

I received the Nourish Radiance Firming Facial Oil, which, if I’m to be honest, is a beautifully formulated facial oil. I guess that kind of sets the tone eh? 😉

I really enjoyed the Burt’s Bees Lipstick but I’m afraid it is my Sunset Cruise for I can’t fully recommend it

A while ago, when I was down in Singapore and browsing the Sephora sale, I came upon the Burt’s Bees display. I have tried the odd bit and bob from the brand in terms of skincare, but if I’m to be honest, it never quite stood out for me. Asked to describe it, I’d say it’s “Meh!” at best. Yes, “meh” is a description LOL!

But at the back of my head, I remembered reading somewhere about the newly launched Burt’s Bees Lipsticks and how nice they were. So I got curious, and eventually picked one up for the sake of experimentation.

The Burt’s Bees lipstick comes in a long rectangle tube, with the colour band denoting the colour of the lipstick. After a few moment swatching at the counter, I decided to stay away from my usual bright colours, and go instead, for a warm everyday shade. I eventually settled for Sunset Cruise.

The colour, when swatched on the back of my hand, as you’ll see below, fit what I was looking for. A light coral, a colour I could wear daily and one that was not too obtrusive. Little did I realise that while the colour disappointed me a little, I really enjoyed using this. With one big caveat.
