Those of you who are in tune with the going ons in the skincare world would have come across The Ordinary – a somewhat ordinary sounding name of a new range of skincare that is so revolutionary, it’s pretty much rocked the world of skincare enthusiasts. It’s also received rave reviews online from many big names in the industry. The key reason is the price because products in The Ordinary range are very very affordably priced, for what is supposed to be very potent and effective ingredients. So affordably priced, it makes you wonder if there’s a catch.
Because they are the brainchild of the people behind Deciem, the other popular brand for effective products that don’t break the bank, I was more comfortable picking up a few pieces, sight unseen. I bought directly from the Deciem website although you can get The Ordinary in a few other places online (not retailed in Malaysia at time of publishing – please don’t ask. The info about product availability is always detailed in all my posts wherever I can, especially local availability where possible. However, I’m not a fan of product resellers or pre-orders or bulk buyers so I never recommend any. I’m all about buying directly from trusted sources, never from Instagram or Facebook and I suggest that you do the same /climbs off soapbox).
The first product I was most excited to try was The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% (I’ll call it The Ordinary Vitamin C serum for short) as I’d just run out of mine and was raring to try more Vitamin C products as I find them very effective.
The Ordinary Vitamin C serum slides in at under US$10 (£5) and I was curious as a cat with its 9 lives intact. There were so many raves for the brand online – might this be my wallet’s saviour?
If you’re on Instagram, you’d know the answer to my rhetorical question. No. I actually pretty much hated the damn thing. To be honest, it was purely from a sensorial point – the texture really sucks. But I eventually got it to work, and I’m going to share with you the secret! 🙂
But first, I got The Ordinary Vitamin C serum in its new tube packaging. Apparently, the first generation came in a dropper bottle, that people hated. So it was eventually repackaged in a tube. I’m not sure either if it’s perfect, as the product is actually quite runny.
So, when you squeeze out the product, you have to be pretty careful to control how much you actually dispense, because you only need (and honestly, you should only be using) very little product, because of the formula.
You probably can’t tell, but this is the swatch of the product and it is fairly liquid. You only need about 1/3 of this dollop on your skin, because as I will tell you below, you will otherwise be a grease-ball.
The formula claims to be water-free and silicone-free and be in a stable suspension. The 23% refers to Pure L-Ascorbic Acid, and because Vitamin C can be drying, they added 2% Hyaluronic Acid Spheres. On paper, this sounds like quite a dream.
The Gritty Texture and greasiness
In practice, the texture is horrible to me. I’m not alone. Just look up any honest reviews online, and you’ll find everyone complaining about the texture.
While it looks like a smooth lotion when squeezed out of the tube, the moment you apply this to your skin, you will feel a gritty, sandy texture under your fingers. It almost feels like you’re rubbing fine sandpaper all over your face. If you exert pressure, it can feel a little painful. It never goes away, and it sits on your skin all day.
Added to that, I found that the formula really makes my skin greasy through the day. I use this in the morning, as the first serum on my skin after cleanser and toner. I like my Vitamin C directly on my skin and I found that no matter how little I used, it would still make my skin greasy, yet dry. It’s complicated. It looks greasy, with a shine like a beacon in the dark, yet it feels dry. I don’t know, it’s just weird.
It’s become so bad that I won’t use this serum if I have to put a good face forward, because I can’t stand how oily my face looks, even though I’m not actually oily. Alternatively, I’ll use one of my more drying foundations to try to balance it off. It’s always a challenge.
It Stings
Added to the gritty texture and greasiness is the sting. Now, I use acid toners and I happily slap on glycolic acid on my face with wild abandon. Lotion P50 does not sting my skin and neither does Pixi Glow Tonic or Alpha H Liquid Gold. I’d been warned every time, but it’s always been smooth sailing. Not with The Ordinary Vitamin C serum.
They warn you on the box that you can expect a stinging sensation. And yes, I do experience it. If you have blemishes on your skin it will sting more at those areas. For me, I feel the stinging on my cheeks and around my nose and my skin actually turns a little red. It goes away, but the redness does remain. It bugged me every single time I use it, but I persevered in the name of science – ok, for the sake of trying it. The things I do! 😛
The smell
The other thing I intensely dislike is the scent. To me, there is a strong metallic scent that remains on my hands after I use this, and that bugs me to no end. I always have to wash my hands after using, and I tend to use this only in the day time, because I like to use my Vitamin C serums in the day – it’s supposed to be an antioxidant and it aids sunscreen efficacy. Look it up – lots of research in this area.
How to avoid the gritty texture and sting
However, just 2 weeks ago, I unconsciously stumbled upon a cure for the terribly gritty texture and the sting on my skin – lots of moisture! Thank goodness for facial mists! 😀
To combat the gritty sandpaper texture and sting of The Ordinary Vitamin C Serum, here’s how I use it:-
- After cleansing and exfoliating toner, I liberally mist my face with a facial water mist – any one will do, but get your face WET.
- Then, squeeze out a little dollop of The Ordinary Vitamin C serum, and quickly apply and massage onto your wet skin.
- You will find that the grittiness seems to melt into the water, and I don’t experience any stinging on my skin. The product also absorbs better and more quickly.
I believe the gritty texture is due to the L-Ascorbic Acid powder they say is used in the formula, suspended in the emulsion, but applying it to wet skin really really helps, and it’s the only way I can use this without wanting to throw the tube at the wall in frustration. I believe the water helps, because L-Ascorbic Acid is water soluble, and since it’s suspended in a water-free formula the water helps it dissolve. The bits of chemistry from school days did not go to waste! 😛
I’m no chemist, but I hardly think that vitamin c POWDER will do very much for your skin by just sitting on it. Please feel free to tell me otherwise, but I’m sticking to my method – at least I don’t have to contend with sandpaper on my skin 😛
I’d read of people patting it into their skin instead of rubbing (so it doesn’t hurt so much) or people who experience pilling but I don’t. Using it on a wet face really helps it perform more like a normal serum and I can layer products without problems after that. However, the greasiness does remain. No cure there.
What does it do?
From my limited experience with Vitamin C serums, I’ve experienced clearer skin, more even skintone and a reduction in the darkness of my existing pigmentation, and any new redness clears up more quickly. I find that with The Ordinary Vitamin C serum, I don’t notice significant changes in my skin. However, this might be due to the fact that my first serum had already worked so well. So, this was doing a maintenance job.
I did not notice any further brightening of my skin, and in fact, due to the greasiness, my skin sometimes looks dull, but my skintone seemed to remain even, after the redness goes away. Once I used the wet skin method, I experienced far less redness and it felt a little more comfortable. Only just.
I have this red spot on my chin due to picking at a recalcitrant spot, and daily use of this serum hasn’t helped fade the marks. I don’t know. I guess I just really dislike this, and I’m only trying to use up as much of it as I can before I bin it 😛 By way of an alternative, I particularly liked the Hylamide Booster C25 (same owners – Deciem) which isn’t too expensive, and feels far more elegant a formulation than this POS 😛
IN A NUTSHELL
I don’t like this 😛 Ok, that’s not helpful. The Ordinary Vitamin C serum is a very affordable vitamin c serum that is water free and silicone free. The texture is quite runny, and you only need very little each time. It spreads easily, but the L-Ascorbic Powder suspended in the formula gives it a gritty texture that feels like sandpaper on skin and irritates my skin. I also experience stinging and some redness. My way of working around it is to apply it directly on wet skin. You don’t experience the gritty texture and I find that it stings less. I don’t find this particularly helpful for my skin, and it leaves my skin looking greasy all day. It is very affordable and I can see why it’s popular. But I feel the formula is inelegant and it just takes too much trouble to get it to work, with not very noticeable results. I’m not a fan.
PROS: Very affordable
CONS: Gritty texture feels like sandpaper on skin, Tube packaging tends to dispense too much product, Heavy greasy feeling and oily cast on skin all day, Strong metallic scent lingers on skin, Stings the skin so you will experience a smarting feeling especially if you have any blemishes
WHO WILL LIKE THIS: Anyone on a tight budget and wants to try a Vitamin C serum
PRICE: US$9.70 | £5 for 30ml
WHERE TO BUY: International shipping available at The Ordinary website (or Deciem), Asos, Victoria Health (I have never used this site and I can’t seem to access it when I try, but I’ve heard of people buying from there – I prefer to buy directly from Deciem or Asos)
If you’re interested as to what’s in The Ordinary Vitamin C serum, here’s the ingredient list.
As always, this is MY perception of this product. I am a fan of a bargain as much as the next person, but texture and sensorial pleasure is also very important to me. If I can’t bear to use a product because I pretty much hate it, it doesn’t matter how much or little it costs, I’d still hate it.
I did persevere long enough to find a way to get this serum to work, which I’m thankful about, because this means my US$10 doesn’t go to waste. But I now only use it on weekends or on days when I don’t need to put an immaculate face forward, because this leaves my dry skin looking like I need some serious blotting – and that isn’t flattering at all. I know this suits many peoples’ budgets, so go ahead and try it. Maybe it’ll work for you and if you hate it, go for Hylamide Boost C25 instead if you aren’t up to springing for the Dr. Brandt Power Dose 🙂
Have you tried this Vitamin C Serum from The Ordinary? Did you experience the same things I did?
I’d love to know how you like this, because I know many people have tried it thanks to the very affordable price tag. I’m trying a couple of other items I bought from the brand, but those will come in due course. I’d admit that as this was my first experience with the brand, I was very put off and hesitant to try the other things in my order. But I’m getting over my prejudice. Almost 😛

Paris u saved me from searching for this product. Been seeing this brand getting sone great reviews in youtube. But i think i’m just going to save some big bucks on my dr.brandt. I’m almost out of my power dose c.. and i’m on to the laser fx bright serum. Took awhile to get used to the texture but it actually does what it says. I got mine on buy one free one on kens website! What a steal. 🙂
Paris B says
I’m so happy that Dr. Brandt Power Dose works so well for you Arfah 🙂 I love it too! I haven’t come across Laser FX but knowing how expensive Dr. Brandt products can be, a Buy 1 Free 1 is an excellent deal!! I shall have to stalk the Ken’s website in future haha!
Esther Yeong says
Hi Paris. Currently Ive repurchased only 2 products from The Ordinary ie Buffet and Alpha Arbutin. I’m awaiting my order of my 3rd bottle of Buffet and my first bottle of Glycolic Acid Toner (which is still in pre-order status). AS for this Vitamin C, i have read so many negative reviews in Instagram complaining what you are now complaining, and therefore it has never gone into my wishlist. Im not happily using Hylamice C25 booster and next I will try Skinceuticals Phloretin CF which I won in a SkinStore contest 🙂 I will give Dr Brandt a try after Im done with my Skinceuticals.
Esther Yeong says
Sorry, I’m now* happily using Hylamide C25 booster (oh gosh, 1 letter error caused a totally opposite effect) LOL
Paris B says
ROFLOL!! Oh I just saw it! Interesting what our eyes want to see vs what our brain perceives 😀
Paris B says
Hey Esther, I was curious about Buffet, but to be honest, I had no idea what it was supposed to do LOL! What do you like about it? I only bought this Vitamin C serum because I wanted a more affordable Vitamin C serum and at the time, everyone was raving about it like it was the next big thing. Meh. I think people will overlook anything because it’s affordable or because some big name blogger says it’s good.
Isabel says
HAH! Been waiting for this! Your review is consistent with many others that I’ve read for this product so I’ve removed it from my ASOS cart 😛 But I might still give the Alpha Arbutin and Buffet a shot. Like you mentioned, at this price point, giving it a shot isn’t too painful on the pocket.
The positive thing about The Ordinary is (I think) they do listen to reviews by consumers since I understand they’ve changed their packaging for this products based on the feedback they received.
Paris B says
It’s interesting that you’re going for Buffet. I’ll be honest and say that I had no idea what it was supposed to do and so I didn’t get it. I know they changed the packaging due to customer complaints. But I also think they’re growing faster than they can cope because they have been launching so many new things in a go, and from what I understand, also developing products for other brands (like OEM) and you know, something’s going to have to give some day!
Margaret Cheong says
Nope this one is not going to work because ascorbic acid is water soluble and squalane and all the oil-based ingredients are blocking the skin from receiving the goodness of vit C. Unless you use another lotion to prep the skin first with moisture to dissolve the ascorbic acid crystals and further emulsify the oils, you may have some magic.
Paris B says
Thanks for validating my concerns Margaret! I did wonder at the grittiness and how it dissolved in liquid. Made me wonder just how effective it could be or how others could find it effective. But then I guess everyone’s different? 😛
Zarina R says
That’s why their recommended regimen says use it after other water base product. Use face mist, like Rachel did. I use aloe vera face mist. It works well for me. Only thing I dislike is the smell. It lasted the whole night through morning until I shower and wash my face. It is as if I hv been cooking all night. It has that kitchen smell all over. That is why I only use it in my PM regimen.
Peggy says
I tried the ordinary range but not the vitamin c serum. My skin loving all those I tried so far. I got alpha arbutin, niacimide, magnesium, lactic acid, retinol and both the primer.
Paris B says
I’ve heard that they are generally good. I guess I started with a dud and that’s coloured my whole view of the brand LOL! Trying to get over it!
Shamim de Varax says
I saw Beautylish (online retailer) showcasing this brand (they had a pre-order reveal or something). Glad to see your reveal before I dropped a load of cash!
Paris B says
How interesting that Beautylish would carry this brand. They only used to carry all the expensive stuff and this is as far from expensive as humanly possible!
Amalia says
Hi from Greece! I was waiting reviews from Beautypedia because this brand seems to be very interesting and revolutionary through their simplicity, having only ingredients that do work. Vitamin C, though, is a tricky component, even in prescribed creams from dermatologists. We’ll see…
Paris B says
Hi Amalia! The Ordinary reviews are up on Beautypedia, if you haven’t seen it. From what I can tell, they have given it a fairly average to good rating, although this specific product didn’t do well, as expected really. I think it’s awful and basically a waste of money! 😛
Liz says
I hauled a lot of The Ordinary and Hylamide products during last year’s Black Friday sale! I am only left with The Ordinary Vitamin C Suspension and Hylamide Hydra-Density Mist (both still unopened) because this brand has yet to impress me. The Ordinary Niacinamide (supposedly to get rid of blemishes) made me break out even more but I also break out from another brand of Niacinamide so maybe the ingredient itself is at fault and not the brand. I threw it out after a few pumps. I never finished the hyaluronic acid serums from both brands because they feel icky on my skin so I slather them onto my legs instead to avoid wastage. I’m currently using The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% with mixed thoughts. I use it in the evening and I do wake up to smoother, brighter skin the next day but I will also develop a couple of painful, cystic pimples which goes down after a few days so I only use it once or twice a week. Hylamide’s Vit C, Subq Anti-Age and Eye serums were also useless to me. Hylamide’s High Efficiency Face cleaner works fine but the bottle is badly designed, it’s a hassle having to turn the cap just to dispense the product. Hylamide’s HA Blur does do as it says but the price ($26) doesn’t justify the small amount (30 ml). This is probably the only product I like but I still won’t buy it again.
Paris B says
Haha you and I both Liz 😛 I have been trying the Rosehip Oil and Retinol but I’m struggling to see any results. Hylamid C25 Booster worked very well for me. Nothing else was very impressive. In many ways, I feel like the brand is hyped due to its affordable price point and semi-favourable results. Oh and endorsements by big name bloggers of course 😛
Deolinda Teixeira says
I was using this at night, didn´t like it, it did sting and I would wake up with red blotches. Thank goodness it was so cheap, am currently using it on the back of my hands to try and fade sun spots.
I am liking the Hylaronic Acid though, for it´s tightening effect around my puffy eyes in the morning.
Paris B says
Oh I have the Hyaluronic Acid to try too. Thanks for letting me know that that, at least, works 😛
Kim says
Hi Paris!
Thank you for sharing your review. I started using it lately, but I use it at night instead and it is also the recommendation from deciem when I wrote to them about how it would fit within my existing routine (I was using Hylamine Sub-Q but now use Niod core regiment topped with an oil and moisturiser). During the day I use niacinamide serum (Ordinary) and essence (Tony Moly) instead.
I am not a fan of the scent of this product either, that’s another reason why I prefer using it at night. I didn’t use any vitamin C before and I can def see an effect. And for the price, I’m really happy about the quick results. I also found that moisture helps the product to absorb into the skin. But I don’t need to wet my face before applying. I only make sure to apply my moisturiser with my oil after. I did experience some pilling when I applied my oil over it, but no problem if I mix my oil in my moisturiser.
I am curious to compare it to the hylamide’s vitamin C booster once I finish the Ordinary one.
Paris B says
Thanks for sharing your experience Kim. Glad to know it’s working for you 🙂 I can imagine it would be better for evening, as the greasiness is killer for day time use. That said however, quite often, Vitamin C is known to be better for use in the day, hence my conundrum! I used to layer with oil and moisturiser as well, but to no avail, so I’m sticking with wetting my skin to dilute and dissolve the grittiness. Really, I do feel they could have formulated something more elegant.
Natalie says
I bought Niacinamide, buffet, hyaluronic acid, eye serum, lactic acid 5%, alpha Arbutin and retinoid from the ordinary. Loving everything but I have yet to use the eye serum. Upon reading your review I think I’ll skip their Vit C and get Dr Brandt instead.
Btw Paris have you heard of the brand Revive? Very tempted to get myself a jar of their moisturizing renewal cream…
Paris B says
Glad to know the Ordinary has worked for you so far 🙂 No I have not heard of Revive, but I looked it up and gosh, is it expensive or what?! :O
Rosalind says
Thank you so much for reviewing this! I have been dying to try skincare products from The Ordinary because they are pretty affordable and also because I have heard raved reviews about them. I still couldn’t get my hands on any because they are literally sold out in Myers (hoping that Priceline will stock them soon~ or for Myers to re-stock them soon!) but after reading this review, I don’t think I will be trying out this Vitamin C product. I have sensitive skin and definitely don’t want to have red, blotchy or burning sensation on my face. But I am still interested in trying the rest of the products. Can’t wait to read more of your reviews on this line! 🙂
Paris B says
You can also get them online direct from the website! I don’t know the price difference though but I hear that counters often sell out quickly, mainly due to the low price tag 🙂 Don’t get this one. It sucks balls. But others have reported that most of the other products in the line are quite effective for the price.
Ali says
I have this product and I use to apply it only in the evening now.
Some weeks ago I used to apply even in the morning, but I got a bad reaction with my usual sunscreen, so I get rid of the morning use.
I use it just before the midnight concentrate serum of Kiehl’s, or before the night cream, so I don’t have many problems.
BUT if I use too much of it, it stings and makes my skin red for about an hour.
However, when I will finish it I will give a try to the other products you suggest! Thank you!
Paris B says
Thanks for sharing your experience Ali 🙂 I guess the oil helps to calm your skin and dilute the product so it’s less abrasive to your skin. This isn’t my favourite product but I’m trying to finish it. Maybe I should use it in the evenings like others have 🙂
Angelina says
On the fence. I’m not fond of tacky feeling on my skin. Doesn’t matter what product, as long as it leaves a tacky feeling, I’m very likely to not use it anymore. Been wanting to try some of their serums but still not there yet after reading mixed reviews about it. I’d say, do some reading at their website before taking the plunge. Yes, it’s affordable but if it’s unsuitable for my skin, the cost of repairing it is higher. Buffet has mixed reviews. Some are quite scary.
Paris B says
I was curious about Buffet, but I can’t, for the live of me, figure out what it’s for 😛 I actually haven’t been doing a lot of research on the brand for a while. Time to take a look online. I guess I’ve given them enough time to let normal consumers try and rate their products.
Angelina says
You’d need to spend some time reading the info. I don’t have the time to do that yet. I feel overwhelmed when I’m at their website.
Paris B says
I think that’s actually part of the problem. They could have, and should have made it easy for people to understand, not try to make themselves out to be more important or unique than they really are by confusing us.
Hani Lutfi says
I heard there are very mixed reviews about this before I read this post. I’ve heard great things about the Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a lot better than this one, apparently it’s a new vitamin C derivative and works better because it’s more stable. I’ve heard great things about the niacinamide + zinc serum as well and it’s only USD10! Hahah
Paris B says
I really think I started off on the wrong foot with this brand haha! Of all the products I chose to try, I tried one that not only I, but many other people hate. Sigh… Maybe I should give them another chance. But I do find all the science names confusing to know what to use and when. Did you try any?
Hani Lutfi says
I haven’t tried any because I still have a few skincare products to finish up! I’m trying so hard to not hoard skincare products now that I LOVE IT!!! Hahah but I’m really keen on trying out the niacinamide. The scientific names are definitely confusing! I saw an overall The Ordinary review by a Youtuber called Liah Yoo, she helped break it down in the video. It was very helpful!
Paris B says
Haha that struggle is REAL, Hani! I have made a conscious effort this year to STOP buying all the new things I come across and to actually use what I have for now. It’s hard because I want everything 😛 #skincarejunkie what to do? haha! Thanks for the tip. I’ll go look up her YouTube!
Michelle says
I bought it! I agree with everything in the review, the grittiness etc. Overall though, I feel like The Ordinary line has really helped my skin become more luminous, even, and got rid of my acne scars. However, because I literally slapped ALL the products I bought on my face at one go, I can’t tell which one it is that makes the biggest difference 😛
If you look at the ingredient list, this is suspended in squalane, which is likely why if you use too much it feels super greasy. I also think this isn’t very elegantly formulated, but my skin looks ok with it after some use. If I don’t use too much in the day, I think I can get away with it under my foundation. Haven’t been using it much because I don’t want to overexfoliate my skin with retinoids and acids and all, but I’m ok with it. I may or may not try one of the other Vit Cs, but I may actually repurchase this 😛
Paris B says
Yep, I personally believe the fact that it’s not actually dissolved is a problem, But the greasiness really got to me. I’m going to use it in the night and hope to finish it one way or another 😛 On the bright side, it’s allowed me to wear some of my more drying foundations, without making my skin look too dry 😀
Firn says
Try Niod’s vit C, way smoother and less drying formula than Hylamide. Plus I think it’s more stable, my bottles usually last me a good 6 months with 3-4 drops each night. No stinging or burning or redness even on my very sensitive skin. Been using for over 1 year now and I am very happy with it.
This formula looks very oil and emulsifier heavy (squalane and ethylhexyl palmitate, which tends to clog me up). Your method is logical since you are dissolving the LAA at the point of application so you can get the benefits without the potential oxidation.
Paris B says
Thanks for the suggestion. I was always a little sceptical of Niod because of their much higher price tags, considering now Deciem does products that cost from $10 all the way to those that cost over $100 LOL I’ll pick one up next time I come across a sale or discount code 🙂 I did think my method was logical haha – the most important thing was that I no longer experienced the grittiness and burning.
Laura Deth says
Hmm, I quite love this product and I’m only a few days in.
I have dry sensitive skin and almost all products irritate my skin even ones aimed at sensitive skin. Surprisingly, this doesn’t, at all. Which is quite weird as everyone seems to mention the stinging! The power does scrap my skin a little but nothing painful or annoying.
Maybe because I apply it after my Klairs toner! Who knows!
I find it absorbs with a minute or two and the power isn’t left on my skin. After a few minutes and absorbed. I apply my 100% plant oil and I’m all ready to go. I don’t feel or look greasy either, weirdly.
I wonder if because my skin is very dry it absorbs it better. I use it both AM & PM. I was really surprised by how many negative reviews it had. I can’t really give my opinion on the effects as it’s only been 4 days but we’ll see in a few months.
Very interesting reading everyone’s thoughts 🙂
Paris B says
Thanks for sharing Laura 🙂 I’m glad it works for you, and perhaps your skin has adapted better to it than most of us – good for you coz it’s very affordable!
Laura Deth says
After trying out for awhile I realised that it didn’t have much effect on me as it originally did the first few days, and the lack of stinging was due to using my toner before applying . Without it stings.
The only I noticed and absoultely hated not sure if anyone else has experienced this but one day I suddenly noticed that my palms had were orange and getting even more so as days passed. I first thought it was due to too much B in my blood, I was quite concerned. I went on holiday a few days after and forgot this product when I came back I noticed my hands were normal again, started using the product again and after a few days the orange was back (on the parts of palms I use to pat/rub the product in). Never experienced this before! I’ve stopped using it and my hands are fine again. No idea why the product did this! So be careful to others using it.
Paris B says
Thank you for the update Laura! And that’s so strange about your hands turning orange! Now that you mention it, I wonder if that was the source of the strange yellowness on my palms not too long ago. I remember being a little worried about it, but it came and went, and it’s not come back for a while since I no longer use this. Hmm…
Phoebe Lao says
I agree! My face did not STING after using this with Klair’s supple toner. My skin has been peeling a lot but I do like the effect of this product on my skin. What I do is I have an entire regimen personalized for this vitamin c, only putting in hyaluronic acid and supple toner on my regimen
Synove Eldby says
I regretfully used it three nights ago. The sting is horrible , the product gritty and slimy and the best place for it is the bin. My skin is burnt , patchy and dry as a result. I’ve used C serums before , and never had any problems. It will take weeks before my skin it’s back to it’s former condition. Yes it’s inexpensive but that’s about it.
Paris B says
I’m sorry to hear you had such a bad reaction to it. Did you try using it on dampened skin and see if it helps (instead of throwing it out?) but it does sound like a bad reaction, so the bin is probably the best place for it right now. I hope you’re keeping your skin comfortable in this healing period. I find that stripping back my skincare to the bare minimum helps me when my skin misbehaves. All the best!
Maja says
I know this product is very controversial, but I absolutely love it. I have been using many vitamin C products before, some of them very expensive (Skinceuticals CE Ferulic, Power C by Zelens). So my skin was used to high concentrations of vitamin C, and I experienced hardly any sting or burn. I apply on wet skin, I have no trouble with the texture. I will certainly buy again. It’s become one of my holy grail vitamin C products.
Paris B says
Happy you do Maja! That’s the beauty of beauty products – just because it doesn’t work for one person doesn’t mean it won’t for everyone else 😀 And that’s why reviews are helpful so we can evaluate how different people react to the same product and maybe help us make a more informed choice ) I think the fact you apply it to wet skin is what helps you because really, I feel that that is the best way to apply it to avoid the stinging and grittiness 🙂
