Rifling through the Bobbi Brown Mask Wardrobe for an Instant Detox, Skin Nourish and Radiance Boost

September 7, 2016 Paris B 10 Comments

A little earlier this year, Bobbi Brown rolled out a trio of face masks in their skincare range, that had everyone in a tizz. Masks are enjoying a bit of a renaissance these days, I’ve noticed, and brands that are quick to roll with the times usually are quick to garner results.

Naturally, since I move at the speed of a glacier, it’s only taken me till now to work out what I think about them. On the minus side, the brand’s shaking their head at my tardiness. On the plus side, they’re permanent, and I’ve used these for months so I now am quite sure how I feel about them.

There are 3 different masks in the Bobbi Brown mask wardrobe, targeted at different uses and purposes. When they were first launched, I was told that the Instant Detox mask wasn’t going to be sold in Malaysia, so I “imported” one in from Singapore. The minute I got it, I was told it’d passed regulations and was available in our market. Tsk! 😛 But that meant I had a full selection and could therefore have a good go at them! 😀 Let me tell you about each of them, and which I like… and importantly, which I don’t! 😀

I paid RM10 for the Pixy Two Way Cake Compact Foundation to see why it’s a cult favourite!

September 5, 2016 Paris B 13 Comments

I’ve been often accused of featuring (and liking) products on MWS that are out of the reach of many people, because they are expensive stuff. Unfortunately, I do love my luxury and I’m so much older than the average blogger, that I’ve earned my stripes (and money LOL!), so I’m really not very sorry.

But today, I’m going to show you something that slips in at just under RM10 (approx US$2.50) so if this doesn’t, as they say, calm your tits, I don’t know what will.

The product in question is the Pixy Two Way Cake Compact Foundation. There are a few different types available, but I purchased the Pixy UV Whitening Two Way Cake Perfect Fit compact powder foundation. This is the refill, which comes in a hard plastic compact, so I found no need to buy the case.

Those of you who are familiar with my usual go-to brands for foundations may now be giving me the side-eye, and scratching your head in confusion. PB using a RM10 foundation? Something must be wrong with her!

The reason I decided to experiment, was because a friend who is a flight attendant mentioned that this product was a product she used, and that was an open secret among her fellow flight attendants, for helping their makeup sit and stay put for long hours. Now, if there’s someone you should be taking advice from for longlasting makeup, it’s flight attendants, especially those who do long-haul flights. I’ve always been amazed at how perfect their makeup looks despite the long hours and dry cabin air. Me? I look like a bus ran me over, and I was just sitting down! Naturally, after I was told of this open secret, I had to see what the fuss was about.

When the promising SPF50 PA++++ rating of The Body Shop Skin Defence is an anti-climax

September 2, 2016 Paris B 33 Comments

I’m always excited to try a new sunscreen. I run through sunscreen like water, so it’s always easy for me to flit about, even if I always find myself coming back to roost with my Holy Grail sunscreen. (Incidentally, I’m told that the new catch-phrase is ‘Ride or Die’ vs ‘Holy Grail’ vs ‘Desert Island’ – I’d rather be a little holy than ride or die so you won’t see me use that phrase any time soon! Oops, I just did didn’t I?)

The newest I put to the test was what the people from The Body Shop excitedly told me was their first ever sunscreen product. First ever! I didn’t realise that TBS never had a sunscreen before this, did you?

Except they didn’t call it a sunscreen or a sun protection. This is The Body Shop Skin Defence Multi-Protection Essence SPF50 PA++++! I was so enamoured by the high SPF and PA (UVA blocking) rating that I think I overlooked one thing. TBS did not call this one a sunscreen.

Note that it is a Multi-Protection Essence, and the texture of the product hammers this home, by being a lightweight, watery texture. Yet the promise of SPF50 and PA++++ rating really had me by the short and curlies. I HAD to know if this might be my new favourite sunscreen? Would you like to know too? 😉
