Game, Set and Match to the Nars Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder

March 31, 2014 Paris B 46 Comments

I don’t always ‘set’ my makeup or foundations in a true sense on a daily basis. On most days, I finish off with the Guerlain Meteorites illuminating powders that for me act somewhat as a ‘setting powder’ but on days when I really want my makeup to last for as long as it possibly can, I turn to this white powder that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with since the day it came home with me from the NARS store.

This NARS Light Reflecting Loose Powder was the very first item I bought from our NARS store here at Pavilion KL and it was after reading a lot of raves for this product. I couldn’t quite decide between the loose or pressed versions but as I personally prefer using loose powder to pressed, this is what I opted for.

What this very popular white powder is supposed to do, is set foundation for a smooth finish while softening the appearance of any lines on your face. It looks a scary white in the pot, but applies translucent, without any shimmer or glitter on the skin.

But what I love so much about this is just how impressive my makeup looks after a whole day!

Remember that day when we had the MWS x Bobbi Brown Masterclass?

March 28, 2014 Paris B 34 Comments

About 3 weeks back, thanks to the generosity of the people at Bobbi Brown Malaysia, we held a Masterclass for 8 lucky My Women Stuff readers. So many of you had expressed your intention to attend but we only had very limited spaces so hopefully we get to do this again another time 🙂

I loved how they set up social media hashtag reminders around the store!

The reason it’s taken me so long to provide the round up is due to an oversight on my part. The morning I arrived at the Bobbi Brown store at Pavilion KL and took out my camera, everything that could go wrong, did. I’d forgotten to charge my battery and it was flat! Grr…

Thankfully, a proper professional photographer was on hand for the session and I only just got the images so all the photos you see here are credited to the wonderful photographer hired by Bobbi Brown Malaysia. (Thank goodness for their foresight!)

I thought I’d just show you quickly what went on on the day because it’s not everyday I get to co-host an event 😀 And for those who attended, a nice way to relive the morning and spot your pretty faces! 🙂

Impress IC Brightening Sun Protector SPF50+ PA+++ : Another Sunscreen that left me truly impressed

March 27, 2014 Paris B 23 Comments

When it comes to sunscreen or sunblock, I think many of you are familiar with my raves for the Shiseido Perfect UV Protector. I go through these like water and every time I toss up an “empties” post or photo, it appears somewhere in there after a couple of months. I think most people are sick of it already – don’t you have other faves?! I get that wail.

Erm… if I did, then it won’t be a fave right? 😛 But recently, a friend told me to give the Impress IC Brightening Sun Protector SPF50+ PA+++ a try. According to said friend, this was their fave, and knowing my predilection for sunscreen, I had to try it. So when I ran low on the Shiseido one, I sprung for this Impress version.

Impress IC is a brand under the Kanebo Cosmetics umbrella so you can find it at major Kanebo Cosmetics counters, and as I have indicated in the image above, yes this Brightening Sun Protector is quite impressive!

Like most Japanese style sunscreens, this has a lightweight liquid texture and you have to shake up the bottle to ensure all the ingredients mix up. For those who dislike the feeling of heavy, thick sunscreen textures, then these sort of light liquid might sit better with you.

While not as affordable as the other sunscreen alternative I shared with you before, this has joined the ranks of Shiseido and Hada Labo as one of my favourite sunscreens 🙂

RMK UV Powder Foundation : An interesting powder to cream finish with SPF30

March 26, 2014 Paris B 12 Comments

Goodness! I haven’t used a powder foundation in goodness knows how long! So when RMK introduced their UV Powder Foundation with SPF30 and asked me to take it for a whirl, I thought “Oh, ok. It’s been quite a while since I did powder foundation from any brand anyway!”

rmk uv powder foundation

Like many if not all Japanese brands, the product is sold separately from its case. The reason, as we are always told, is that you can later buy refills after you’ve finished using the product, and refills cost less. In a way, through experience, it makes sense.

Back in the day when I would only use powder foundation, I would actually finish up powder foundation and then buy the refills and it always made sense. The Japanese brands also usually thoughtfully include a new sponge applicator with every new refill so you don’t have to worry about that.

The downside to this however, is that your initial purchase is always more costly because you pay for the case and the foundation refill separately.

Now, before I get stuck in, I know some of you have already sampled this thanks to RMK’s sampling offer for MWS readers early this month, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. You can still pick it up until the end of March 2014 so check out how to in this post.

It’s an unusual Chinese New Year this year. It’s the first time since I left home that I did not make an early morning drive home for CNY for the reunion dinner (I always do so to beat traffic). It’s the first time I’m spending CNY in KL. It’s the first time my hair is looking such a mess for CNY 😂
Regardless, we do this not for ourselves but for others so we can have more joyful CNY celebrations to come.
