They say that Disneyland is the “Happiest Place on Earth”.
I say you are never ever too old for Disneyland 😀 The first time I visited a Disneyland it was EuroDisney outside of Paris back in student days. I went with friends and we went crazy! At the time, EuroDisney was new and it was, by comparison to the huge parks in the USA, small. I don’t know how much its expanded since, but I always remember the few days I was there. It was magical!
Like the kids around us, we were busy chasing down the various Disney characters to have our photos taken with them. I had to give in to the little tykes when we came upon Mickey and Minnie – it was impossible to get even a foot within the characters, never mind take a photo with them.
Its weird, because there we were, full adults jostling with kids for photos and autographs (yes, autographs!) Yet something in the air made us throw reason out the window. For the 3 days I was there, I was a kid again. And *squee!* I’m going to relive that magic! 😀
This time, I’m headed to the Disneyland park closest to me – Hong Kong Disneyland. Its my first time, and the opportunity was too good to pass up 😀 If anyone has been and has tips to share on what to see, do, and the best way to get around the Park, please please do share! I’m a huge adrenaline junkie so I hope there are some good rides there for me to get my fix. I know there’s a new land – Grizzly Gulch that’s just opened in July so I’m looking forward to check that out. Apparently it’s a world exclusive to Disneyland HK. EuroDisney had Frontierland with its wild west theme, and I see a nice roller coaster taking centre stage here! Roller-coasters are my drug 😀 Then there’s that Flights of Fantasy Parade down Main Street and evening fireworks to look forward to.
Oh and another thing I’m looking forward to is to try the dim sum there. Apparently, you get buns in the shape of Chicken Little, and the Little Green Men alien from Toy Story! Can anyone confirm this? 😛 Above all, I’m going to hunt down that photo with Mickey Mouse this time. This time kids, I’m not giving way!
Have you been to Hong Kong Disneyland? Please share your tips if you have on what you think is a must do or must see!
I’m excited as you can possibly tell. I wonder what gave it away 😛
P/s I’m only going next week so keep the suggestions and tips coming! 😀

Enjoy the break. You deserve it 🙂 Wouldn’t it be a complete riot if Baby K was going along with you? Imagine, heading to Disneyland before he even turns a month old! 🙂
Paris B says
Lol! That would not be fun! For me I mean 😛 He’ll probably get to go when he’s earned his wings hehe… No point spoiling him before he even knows what Mickey Mouse is!

I was there last year and I was really excited to finally be able to visit a Disneyland. But, every time I visit a theme park, I bring the rain with me. So, playing all the rides were limited as some were closed due to the heavy rain. One tip, at certain rides just outside the entrance of each ride, there is a machine which dispenses a passport ticket which tells you the time you can go in, thus allowing you time to visit other rides and coming back to that ride using the express lane. You don’t have to queue the normal lane. Also, look out for the mid day parade of all the characters. Anyhow, enjoy your holiday.
Paris B says
Yay! Thanks for that tip! I shall make sure I make use of it so I don’t have to queue 😀

I have great memories of Disneyland HK, it is the only one we have visited but perfect for my son who was then 6 years old. The rides were suitable for him. If you went to others yu might find HK a little sedate. You need to check out the Disney hotel, it is just so special.
Paris B says
I’ve only been to one other and it was so new there was just 2 big rides! I think this might be even better hehe… Thanks for the tip. Will make sure to check out Disney Hotel

I’m so excited for you!! I’m too much of a Disney theme park fan. I’ve gone to the two in Tokyo, HK and Paris. Next week I’m leaving for Disney World. I don’t have any kids, so this is totally just for me. Have fun!!
Paris B says
Yay to a fellow Disney fan!! 😀 I’m kicking myself for forgetting to visit the one in Tokyo but I guess that’s another reason to go back 😛 enjoy your trip to Disney World! I’d lobe to go there someday too!

Yay for Disneyland!! I just went in March this year so I missed out on Grizzly Gulch. The rest of the park was fun and magical, but the adrenaline rides were too tame for me! 😛
Space Mountain is fun, but I would have liked a bit more oomph to it. I quite liked the boat ride around Tarzan’s treehouse – if you get a good guide, they can make the ride more fun! I heard that the Lion King show is a must watch – unfortunately for me they were closed for renovations when I was there.
Oh, and watch out for queue-cutters – they’re everywhere in Disneyland HK. *cough* PRC *cough* 😛
Paris B says
*taking notes* if the Space Mountain is anything like the one I went on, yeah its not awe-inspiring enough but then, I ess we go to Disneyland for the whole package, not just the rides right? 😀 I’m already steeling myself for dealing with queue cutters!
Jesz says
Yaya, the Lion King show is a must watch and it is exclusive in HK Disneyland! Awesome!
I was there last weekend, and thank god that it’s a sunny day…the only shortfall is we get all sweat out due to the heat. But it never stop us from enjoying the trip…as a full grown adult turning to a kid in Disneyland…hehe
and the fireworks, I love it so much!
Enjoy your trip there, Paris. ^^

We were in Disneyland just this last April, we brought our little niece along. She just turned 1yo that time. She was not impressed. I think she’s just too young to enjoy the park. As for us adults, we were exhausted after a couple of hours. The first time I went there I could barely walk at the end of the day. We just ended up sitting on one of the benches to wait for the fireworks display that evening. Maybe I’m getting too old. LoL
Paris B says
Haha I can imagine how tiring it must be to go with a child and I’m gearing up to soak my feet every night. I’m always suffering after a day out in Hong Kong. I can barely feel my feet most of the time!
plue says
have fun Paris! 😀 haven’t been there, blame the weather last year when I was in HK. can’t wait to see you share your thoughts and pictures once you are back!
Paris B says
Thanks Plue! I can’t wait! I’ll definitely share stories and pictures and maybe you can make it there next trip 😀

I went to HK disneyland in 2010, and when I got there, I was sick to the bone. My family and I arrived at Disneyland at about 3.30 PM and we managed to finish every ride possible (even the Lion King show- which brought tears to my eyes for being so awesome) and watch the fireworks at 10.00PM! ^.^ That being said, we didn’t have time to take many photos, so, I guess it’s a trade-off?
Do enjoy yourself there!
Paris B says
Thanks Hanny. I love the Lion King so I shall make sure I catch the show! Eeks!

Went to HK last year but no chance in checking Disneyland out. The weather ain’t good… I don’t feel sore as somehow, Disneyland doesn’t interest me. Nonetheless, I hope you had a GREAT time!!! ^^
Paris B says
Haha I’ve been to HK a few times but never went to Disneyland! I guess there always a first time for everything 🙂 thanks!
Bugs says
The 1st and only I went (for now) is HK Disneyland in 2009. We stayed at Disneyland Hotel, so we get to enjoy the park twice !! Plus, the hotel let u take the slippers back as souvenirs ( 1 papa size, 1 mama size and 1 kid size ). I tell u, the slippers sure are not the paper thin kind that u get in most hotels (if they even provide slippers at all).
I enjoy the roller coaster in space world or something… it was pitch dark with some small blue lights as if you are in space. You can’t see where the coaster is going, for this i was not as scared but the sudden turn sure is as exciting.
The Lion King play was good but i think i was too slow or they are too fast, before my brain can process, actors are jumping and running towards the centre stage from behind us.. ^_^ Plus, I enjoy the 3D show, they actually spray water on us as Donald got wet.
Enjoy !!
Paris B says
Thanks for the tips, Bugs! I’ll be staying at the resort too but I think it’s Hollywood Hotel. I hope they have the nice swank slippers for us too!
Jyoan says
hehe, adrenaline junkie here too! Nothing is too much to take. =DD
Paris B says
High 5!! I haven’t been on a ride in ages. I guess it’s why I’m so excited lol!
Janessa says
I haven’t been to Hong Kong’s Disneyland but I hope you have an amazing time! 😀 I’m excited for you just reading this post! My only advice is to dress comfortably and wear shoes, not sandals (or heels)! 😛
Paris B says
Thanks for the shoes tip, Janessa! You’re so right about wearing comfy shoes because I foresee a lot of walking and I don’t want my slippers or sandals flying out of the roller coaster eh? 😀 I’ll share when I get back!
espenine says
u MUST MUST MUST MUST (can’t emphasize this enough!) stay till evening and watch the Disneyland fireworks which start at 8PM sharp. Chope yourself a nice spot in the middle of the public square, not too close to the Disney castle, and indulge on the magical wonders that the Disney fireworks is going to bring you. It is absolutely breathtaking!
Paris B says
Ahhhhh I will be sure to do that! I hear it’s quite something!
espenine says
Oh, I find HK Disneyland has more kiddy rides than Euro Disneyland. But the good thing would be that you will have time to try out all the heart pumping thriller rides because there aren’t that many of them! 🙂
Paris B says
Hmm that’s true too! Shall make sure I go on them at least twice 😀
Kahani says
Go early and hit the most popular rides (Space mountain, grizzly gulch) first. Toy Story land isn’t the best designed for queues either and the rides aren’t that great. So if the queue looks too long, give it a miss.
Paris B says
Thanks bunches! I hope to get on the good ones and hopefully not have to queue too long (wishful thinking eh? )
Wojis says
Super! We love Disney, so have fun and enjoy!
Paris B says
Thank you, I will! And I’ll report when I get back so we can all enjoy it too lol!
Sam says
I haven’t been to any Disneylands (I have seen Tokyo’s one though…from inside a bus), so enjoy! I am getting excited about Legoland Malaysia!
Paris B says
It’s open, Sam! I saw the crowds on tv yesterday and some of the exhibits and it does look pretty awesome! It’s quite far for me to get to though so I’m not sure when I’d visit 😛 ironic huh?
Crystal Cheng says
Welcome to Hong Kong!!
Paris B says
Thank you Crystal! I’ll be there next week and already planning my food haunts 😉
Swati says
ow…enjoy the parade 🙂 my mom dad went there and totally loved it 😀
Paris B says
Eeks! I will be sure to watch out for the parade, thanks!
Sunny says
I’ve been to the one in Tokyo, California, and outside of Paris! I went to the one outside of Paris 3 years ago and I still loved it! There were a lot of rides that are exactly as I remembered from my childhood, and I proudly bought a pair of Stitch ears to wear for the day!
Have FUN Paris!!!
Paris B says
Haha! I’m getting myself a pair of Mickey ears! I’ve wanted one ever since I was a kid but as a student I didn’t feel right spending my parents money on frivolities (and in Francs too!) but now it’s my own money to waste so I’m going to go nuts! 😀
