(Boss LB’s face appears on screen) Your mission, Lipstick Bandit, should you choose to accept it, is to feature a sheer lipstick. You may buy, beg, borrow but please try not to steal one for your August assignment. Good luck. This message will self destruct in 5 seconds.
PB: Yes boss! [This should be easy. I have a ton of sheer lipsticks!]
[10 days later, after rootling through the lipstick drawer at Casa PB]
PB: Grr… these lipsticks aren’t sheer. They are all actually quite pigmented! Where are my sheer lipsticks!
And would you believe it? I couldn’t find any that weren’t discontinued or from my fave Japanese brand Kanebo T’estimo that’s now defunct! Its amazing right? So what did I end up with?
Chanel.
I know. So awkward. But it was a lipstick and it was sheer and I think many will be happy that its actually still available 🙂
I present you the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in Elise. Elise is a lovely deep berry-red shade in the tube. One of those colours I wear a lot of. But it is very surprising once swatched.
I didn’t quite expect Elise to swatch as sheer as this.
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Elise Left: Swatched Once Right: 3 layers
I knew that Rouge Coco Shine was sheer. It was the selling point of the lipstick after all. It is supposed to be a light tint of colour on lips with a shiny glossy appearance, and if this is what you want then you will like this. Let’s just say it is Chanel’s answer to the lipbalm-lipstick hybrid that’s emerged in recent years.
If you like something light on lips, it is definitely worth taking a look at. I personally prefer the formula for Dior Addict, partly because I find Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks not hydrating enough, and they tend to emphasize flaky skin on my lips.
It may just be me though, because I know that this range is much loved by many because of the light texture, the shine, the sheer colour and the comfort level on lips which is very good indeed.
It never ceases to amaze me to see the deep berry-red colour in the tube and then see the very light berry-red tint I get once I swatch on my lips. I do have quite pigmented lips so on me, I get a more “my lips but better” look. Rather, I look a little more polished, but not like I went with a full on opaque lipstick. And that is sometimes a very nice look to sport.
See what I mean? On my lips, Elise is just barely there, while adding a nice sort of shine and a tint of rosy colour to the lips. It does go with the sort of translucent makeup look I like to sport – nothing too opaque or fancy or pigmented.
If this one isn’t for you, the rest of the Banditos will have something I’m sure!

Have you tried any of the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks? Do you like them or the lipbalm/lipstick hybrid in general?
Despite not quite being a fan of these, I actually have 2 of them. What a hoarder I am! 😛 I am also a fan of the lipbalm/lipstick hybrid lipsticks. I love them but I personally prefer the offerings from Dior (Addict) and Guerlain (Shine Automatique).

That’s a pretty colour, it looks so natural and wearable. Shame the formula is not very hydrating though.
Paris B says
Thank you Gio 🙂 Yes, the formula isn’t what I expected from it, but colour wise, its very pretty! Lots of people still like it though. Maybe I’m just picky 😉

Wooh Elise is such a wearable berry! Does look like a real good your-lips-but-better shade. My friend would gasp and shudder at the thought of me splurging on yet another high end balm-type lipstick. But it’s just too hard to resist a lovely berry shade like this packaged in black and gold double Cs.
Paris B says
Thanks Sue and yes, I must say the prices for these lipbalm type lipstick that is barely tinted is crazy! But if you do like it and will wear it often then I suppose its alright 🙂

Ooooh. I love the look of this one! I’m a big sheer lipstick fan: I think that a sheer wash of colour looks better than a nude shade on me, as I have really clear colouring (black hair, pale skin, brown eyes) and pigmented lips. Plus I find it way lower maintenance than a lip gloss. Sheer lipstick isn’t goopy, provides a more natural finish, and I don’t have to worry about my hair sticking to my face!
Paris B says
I’m the same as you Alison! I can’t really wear nude shades for lips too so I go for a sheer lipstick in lieu of a nude colour and it makes me look much better. Like you, I’m not into lipgloss so this is a great compromise and yay to not having hair stick to one’s face!

Absolutely perfect, Paris! This series of posts has only served to increase my lipstick wish list threefold.

Thanks Jessica! Like you, I’m marking off the ones I’m keen on and the list is growing by the day 😛

Talking about sheer lipsticks. My fav because I have quite wrinkly full lips. Think Angelina Jolie but of course mine is only half the size. LOL
Anyway, got my first lipstick (after many years of not owning one due to me hating the ‘oily feel, waxy feel, weird taste, making my lips look more wrinkly bla bla’) last Sunday.
I got myself an Inglot 227. Loved that colour and how it’s buildable. If i want it to be sheer, just 1 swipe will do but it never goes as opaque as normal lipstick would and that’s what i want. It smells of grapefruit (?, sourish citrusy smell) and doesn’t taste weird nor have that waxy feel like the old Revlon lipstick (not sure if their formular is still the same as 10 yrs back).
I am so gonna go back and get more lipsticks – MUST.STOP.SELF. – maybe in 2 months time.

Its great to know you’ve found a lipstick to love, Sharon 🙂 I haven’t tried the Inglot lispticks yet because the textures didn’t quite appeal to me, but I”ll be sure to check in the next time I pass by the store and see if anything catches my eye. Thanks for the heads up!
