Lipstick Bandits : I Sheer-ly would have no problem finding a sheer lipstick to share!

August 6, 2012 Paris B 50 Comments

(Boss LB’s face appears on screen) Your mission, Lipstick Bandit, should you choose to accept it, is to feature a sheer lipstick. You may buy, beg, borrow but please try not to steal one for your August assignment. Good luck. This message will self destruct in 5 seconds.

PB: Yes boss! [This should be easy. I have a ton of sheer lipsticks!]

[10 days later, after rootling through the lipstick drawer at Casa PB]

PB: Grr… these lipsticks aren’t sheer. They are all actually quite pigmented! Where are my sheer lipsticks!

And would you believe it? I couldn’t find any that weren’t discontinued or from my fave Japanese brand Kanebo T’estimo that’s now defunct! Its amazing right? So what did I end up with?

Chanel.

I know. So awkward. But it was a lipstick and it was sheer and I think many will be happy that its actually still available 🙂

I present you the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipstick in Elise. Elise is a lovely deep berry-red shade in the tube. One of those colours I wear a lot of. But it is very surprising once swatched.

I didn’t quite expect Elise to swatch as sheer as this.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Elise Left: Swatched Once Right: 3 layers

I knew that Rouge Coco Shine was sheer. It was the selling point of the lipstick after all. It is supposed to be a light tint of colour on lips with a shiny glossy appearance, and if this is what you want then you will like this. Let’s just say it is Chanel’s answer to the lipbalm-lipstick hybrid that’s emerged in recent years.

If you like something light on lips, it is definitely worth taking a look at. I personally prefer the formula for Dior Addict, partly because I find Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks not hydrating enough, and they tend to emphasize flaky skin on my lips.

It may just be me though, because I know that this range is much loved by many because of the light texture, the shine, the sheer colour and the comfort level on lips which is very good indeed.

It never ceases to amaze me to see the deep berry-red colour in the tube and then see the very light berry-red tint I get once I swatch on my lips. I do have quite pigmented lips so on me, I get a more “my lips but better” look. Rather, I look a little more polished, but not like I went with a full on opaque lipstick. And that is sometimes a very nice look to sport.

See what I mean? On my lips, Elise is just barely there, while adding a nice sort of shine and a tint of rosy colour to the lips. It does go with the sort of translucent makeup look I like to sport – nothing too opaque or fancy or pigmented.

If this one isn’t for you, the rest of the Banditos will have something I’m sure!

Have you tried any of the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks? Do you like them or the lipbalm/lipstick hybrid in general?

Despite not quite being a fan of these, I actually have 2 of them. What a hoarder I am! 😛 I am also a fan of the lipbalm/lipstick hybrid lipsticks. I love them but I personally prefer the offerings from Dior (Addict) and Guerlain (Shine Automatique).

I like this sheer one on you. It’s a change from red lippies no? Btw, I’m more drawn to the lovely eye colour 😉

Thanks Lily 🙂 Yeah I like mixing up my lipsticks and sheers are easy to slick on and go without thinking 😉 The eye is Inglot 😉

I don’t have any Rogue Coco Shine. I only have a tube of Rouge Coco in Gardenia. It is not a sheer one. But I do agree with you that Chanel lipstick isn’t hydrating enough and made my lips look flaky. I also do prefer Dior Addict. In fact, I think Dior lips products is the best that I’ve ever used. ^^

Yep Rouge Coco is the more opaque one but like you, I find the formula not as comfortable as Dior lipsticks, whether Addict or Rouge. I’m a huge huge fan of the Dior lipstick range. None have failed me yet! 😀

Wow, quite amazed how sheer it is on your lips!

I only have one Rouge Coco Shine in 62 Monte Carlo. And it’s totally awesome red that I’d urge anyone who wants red but don’t dare (like me) to buy!

I am not a big fan of balm-lipsticks at all. I still much rather prefer creamy lipsticks or lipgloss, but not the in between. Nevertheless, I’ve found out that with sheer lipsticks, I can take deep colours like red and berry very well! (And peach/nude will never show up on my lips.)

Thanks for the Monte Carlo rec, Jyoan 🙂 I remember dithering between that or Antigone at the counter and I eventually picked up Antigone because I did not want another red LOL Its definitely a great starter red lipstick for anyone too afraid to go all out 🙂 I rarely wear peach or nude colours too because they either do not show up (waste of money!) or I look like death (not flattering)

what a gorgeous sheer berry! i’m not a fan of sheer lipsticks, actually. it’s the miser in me going ‘you’re paying so much for a tinted balm hybrid?!’ it’s surprising how this one turns out though, thought it would be a very deep burgundy from the looks of it in the tube. what are you wearing on your eyes? 🙂

Haha I know exactly what you mean, Germs. I sometimes feel that way too if the lipstick is too sheer so when that happens, I layer and layer and layer until I see colour 😛 Defeats the purpose right? 😛 I’m wearing Inglot on the eyes. The khaki palette.

This caught my eye when I was on the lookout for a Rouge Coco Shine shade but the strong colour in the tube put me off and I purchased Boy instead….. I’m regretting my decision now! O.o It looks lovely on you as always, Paris! xx

    Lovely on you, Paris!

Although I must say, I was pretty disappointed at how sheer it is. From the tube I was sure it was gonna turn out to be a vampy sheer, but it’s so natural looking. 🙁

Thanks Arianne! To be honest, I was very surprised and not a little disappointed too at the sheerness of it. Would have been gorgeous if it did look exactly like it did in the tube 🙂

I chose a Rouge Coco Shine too! (because I realized I don’t have *any* sheers in my stash. How can that be?) I think I always found the price too high for something that is essentially a tinted lip balm, especially when the lip balminess factor isn’t all that high. That said, I really like the color I chose. If I ever finish that sample card I probably will purchase it 🙂

Haha I saw! And Dani too – this is some kind of record yes? 😉 Boy look great on you – not so great on me but as you said, the lipbalminess factor in this one isn’t terribly impressive so I think I’ll just stop here 🙂

Ahahaha, you crack me up, Paris. I think a lot of us had that same problem – sheer? We don’t have sheer ._. That said, I haven’t tried a RCS, but I think I will probably end up preferring the Dior formula as well, since I usually do.

Yes! We’re the red lipped bandits and sheer just doesn’t quite hit the spot does it? I think you can safely give the RCS a pass – we both love the Dior Addict and Rouge Dior formula and next to those, this is a bit…. meh 😛

Yep, I agree it’s not hydrating at all. Having said that, the colours are all so sheer I can slick them on blindly while I’m juggling coffee/keys/bag/lunch bag/phone/whatever crap I seem to cart along to work. Right now, I’m hooked on the lip balms from Sugar. There’s a hint of colour when swatched but almost nothing on the lips. Love it 🙂

I also like how I can draw these in without caring if they go out of line because even if they did, who can tell?! I have a Rose tint from Sugar. I have to go and dig it out before I forget and it melts or dies or something 😛

Elise is stunning on you! I haven’t even heard anyone talk about this shade before and it’s so lovely. I agree about the formula though, I do find the Dior one more moisturizing and hydrating. But I have Boy and Flirt and they both see plenty of use!

Thanks Danielle! I think this shade flew under the radar because it looks so strong in the tube that people were scared off hehe… I find it so amusing how we all nod and agree that its not all that wonderful at hydration yet we have at least 2 of these. Lipstick Bandits unite!

Haha thanks MM! 😀 I think the trick to pulling of lipstick also lies in the rest of the makeup. Sheer lips tend to go better with a lighter makeup application while I find that opaque bright lips go better with something a little more defined. Ok I’ll be honest, I have no idea either 😛
