A Tribute to Grey skies : Dior Grege New Look Eyeshadow Palette

March 8, 2012 Paris B 28 Comments

Its been raining non stop for 2 days now and the grey skies don’t show any hint of letting up. What’s a girl to do then… but to replicate the grey tones for the eyes. Hey! If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em 😀

dior new look grege eyeshadow palette

I happen to love grey tones on the eyes – its a colour that works well on me for some reason and if you are on trend, Grege is a new trendy colour that started out in nail polish some time last year or the year before, and has now migrated to the eyes. Grege as the name implies, is a Grey-Beige combination which is shown here in the New Look Dior Grege 5 Couleur Eyeshadow palette (734). Mr. Christian Dior was already on trend back in 1947 when he used Grege tones in his New Look fashion collection – or maybe he started the trend but either way, the New Look collection brings us Grege – a palette of 5 beige, grey and taupe tones which is very neutral and surprisingly, very wearable 🙂

I would in fact say that this is quite a nice little compact neutral palette to tote around for those who like their neutrals. Its easy to use, the textures are quite good and the size is compact enough (unlike *coughNakedorNaked2cough* :P).

swatches

Dior New Look Grege eyeshadow palette swatches – 2 layers : Matte Beige, Shimmer White, Shimmer Grey, Matte Taupe, Shimmer Light Beige

The colours and textures are quite typically Dior so there are no surprises there. You will either like the fine buttery texture or dislike that the colours are quite sheer but buildable. Can’t justify the textures to you because I do like textures like this in all my shadows and shy away from very strong very pigmented colours.

Whilst I would be happier if there was a deeper shade of grey in there, you can deepen the colours with a black liner for more emphasis if you prefer.

Here is an example of how I wore all 5 colours on my lids. Its very easy to layer them on and the colours flow together well although I do find that the Matte Beige shade is a bit too warm for me so I mix it with the Taupe or Light Shimmer Beige to cool it down.

grege on eyes

Right. Nothing overly dramatic yes? 5 colours and you probably can’t even tell LOL! I kept the grey and taupe on the outer portion of the eyes, Matte Beige mixed with the Shimmer Light Beige for the inner and middle portion of the eyes and the white shimmer to tie everything together.

This is quite easy to wear in the day. For an evening look, I would use more of the grey and less of the beige but I would also add lots of mascara, a nice deep liner and pair the relatively understated eye look with a bright red lip 🙂

Here’s another quick example – my tribute to the grey skies. I used only the Grey and the middle Shimmer Light Beige. It is a bit deeper in real life, but this is pretty much the essence of it.

I think that the Dior Grege eyeshadow palette is a good one to splurge on if you don’t already own a ton of neutral eyeshadows. Its great quality and easy to use. However, those who already own lots of neutrals will wonder if they should bother? In which case, I’d say your mileage may vary. If you are a fan of the types of textures you get in Dior shadow palette then its worth considering. If you aren’t, then perhaps wait for another one 🙂

In a nutshell

Grege (734) is part of the Dior New Look eyeshadow palette collection. A collection of 4 new permanent colours. The colours are a blend of grey and beige tones which make for a good neutral palette. The compactness of the packaging makes it easy to tote around as well as the lux factor. The quality of the shadows are quite good. I found them pigmented enough albeit one layer might be a bit sheer. But that’s how I like my shadows. Brushes pick up colour very very well and they blend beautifully but it will depend on whether you like this sort of formula.

Pros: Nice smooth and fine texture, Buildable colours without looking chalky, Colours are not too shimmery nor too matte, Easy to use

Cons: Pricey, A deeper shade would have been nice for creating smokier eye looks, Some may not like the texture

Because I had grey on the eyes, I decided to add a pop of colour for the rest of my face – would be downright depressing to just look dull and grey, yes? 🙂

Also featuring: Dior Rosy Glow in Petal on cheeks, Guerlain Serie Noir Rouge G Fuchsia Delice on lips

I might bring my eyes in theme with the grey skies but I’d be darned if I didn’t shake things up a little 😀 I actually thought I’d lost my Guerlain lipstick that I featured here. When I reorganized my drawer, I didn’t notice it and had forgotten about it. But one day, I suddenly remembered it and wanted to use it but couldn’t find it.

You know that horrible niggling feeling at the back of your head, when you can actually see the item in your minds eye but can’t find it? I felt like that. I wanted to say “Accio Guerlain Fuchsia Delice!” <- too much Harry Potter 😛 But it wouldn’t work… because I don’t have a wand right? 😛

Anyway long story short, I found it in the pocket of a handbag I haven’t used in a while. And the moral to this longwinded tale is…. there is no moral. Keep your lipsticks safe and rotate your bags often.

Peace 😛

Have you checked out the Dior New Look eyeshadow palettes? Would Grege catch your fancy or might you just overlook it? If you are in Kuala Lumpur, how are you coping with the dull grey weather lately? I love how cool it is but not how wet it also is and don’t get me started on the traffic! I hope you’re all safe and dry 🙂

surprisingly in the last pic what caught my eyes was your blush n lip colour! the eyeshadow doesn’t stand out on it’s own like other colours do but yet it lends a finished look it.

Nope, this isn’t a shadow that screams colour but it is quite polished 😀

Thank you Tracy and I’m not dissing the Naked2, just the portability 😀 I tend to not pack items that can’t fit into my travel pouch although I do think the Naked2 travels a lot better than Naked 🙂

Very pretty, very subtle, but you’re right – I am sure that you’ve got many more neutrals already!

I’m glad Dior is bringing out a neutral colour and making it part of the permanent line. I swatched it the other day and I’m so glad I did! I love how many ways you can play with this – similar to the Christmas palette! In fact, I’ve made up my mind to NOT to bring any eyeshadows when I travel (horrors!) so that I can purchase this. 😛

I love that lipstick on you. And more on Guerlain lipsticks, the Guerlain one from Christmas got me lots of compliments today. Yaye 😀

Very nice! You look pretty and fresh, I love the blush. I was deciding between this and the Kaki one. Now you make me want to buy this one too.

I’m gonna go with the Naked palette instead of this. I absolutely love the Royal Khaki and Bleu de Paris though!

Royal Kaki is most certainly deeper and more versatile than this one. Personally am a bit on the fence still about Bleu de Paris 🙂

I think you nail it right with this look! By playing up your lips & cheeks and playing down your eyes with in a subtle way. Opps, hope I don’t come across as saying you don’t have pretty eyes…somehow, your cheeks & lip colour always attract my attention more.

No offence taken Espenine 😀 Thank you for the comment – its made me think I should be playing up my cheeks and lips more now. Been stuck in a bit of a rut lately 😀

The color looks pretty sheer but nevertheless you’ve managed to pull of a polished look for work! Loving the lippie color on ya. Not liking the rain here one bit so am running off to a lil holiday this weekend.
