Happy Saturday Ladies!
This week, my Twitter timeline has been filled with people talking about food (nothing new) and dieting. Naturally, because I’m a bit perverse that way, I immediately developed a craving for char kuey teow (fried rice noodles pictured above), that I fulfilled yesterday 😀
Are you into diets and dieting?
I’m not, believing in moderation as opposed to not eating anything altogether. I’ve actually tried the famous Atkins Diet which mostly involves you cutting carbohydrates out of your diet altogether. I must say that while on it, the weight fell off quite quickly, but I don’t think it healthy and besides, I’m Asian. I need my rice and noodles, which are essentially carbs 😛 Also, if you get off that diet, you put the weight back on quite quickly. So I now eat everything in moderation and I’d like to believe its all good 😛
Sweet or Savoury?
I wonder if I’m alone in prefering savoury snacks over sweets and desserts. I could quite easily go without eating cakes, biscuits, ice cream or chocolates. But put a bag of crisps before me, and it’ll be gone in a flash, especially at that time of the month 😛
Are you hot tempered?
Last week also saw Mt. Vesuvius erupting. I have a slow burn temper and when it erupts, the Fukushima nuclear reactor doesn’t stand a chance.
One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week?
I’ve been playing around with my new Guerlain bronzer for a week and still trying to get to grips with it so I don’t look too dark. I’ve been using the Sigma F10 Powder/Blush brush with it but I keep thinking of that lovely super soft RMK powder brush (RM220) I tested at the RMK counter. Even the Guerlain brush used on me was so soft it was like down. Absolutely lovely! I might have to cave in 😛
Do you shop online?
I do. A. LOT! Its usually because I don’t have a lot of time to hit up the malls so if I can find what I want online, I usually get it there. Yes, waiting time can kill me (especially since most of the websites I shop at are overseas) but I will tolerate that for the convenience. I’ve had packages arrive that I’d forgotten about so its always a happy surprise! 😀
Over to you ladies!

1. I wouldn’t really call it a diet but more of a slight lifestyle change. Trying to pick things healthier options like steamed/boiled/blanched over the deep-fried/stir-fried stuff. I’ve been cutting down on the carbs but let me tell you, as a Malaysian, there is no way that I am able to part from my rice and noodles permanently! I love them too much! Haha
2. I’m very much a savoury person though I grew up having quite a sweet tooth XD I take it as a sign that I’m growing old lololololol
3. According to everyone else outside, they say I’m pretty patient but apparently in my family, I’m the most hot-tempered one!
4. Heh none this week but I’ve been trying out bright orange lipsticks recently which is quite unusual for me because I’m a nude lippy kinda gal lol
5. I’ve shopped a few times online but not a serial online shopper just yet 😛 Being on a poor student budget does that do you but I’m okay with that. I actually fear the day whereby I’ll start earning my own money. Yikes!
ParisB says
Bright orange lipstick is so awesome! I can’t pull it off myself because it makes my skin look sallow but I admire anyone who can 😀 And you know what? When you start earning your own money, you’d be just as loathe to spend it 😛

1. Ordinarily, I’d say no, but the recent spike in my weight increase prompted desperate measures. I know being on a high-protein low-carb diet long term is detrimental to health, but I intend to do it just enough till I attain my ideal weight, after which I intend to up the ante on physical exercise. Hope my plan works!
2. Savory definitely. I’m also always tempted by chips 🙂
3. Yes extremely so. Some people have suggested I run a daycare center, but I think my temper will not allow it.
4. Started using the Laneige Water Pack Sleep mask 2 nights ago (sample), but didn’t really feel any difference.
5. Yes I do, and I love doing so. It’s much easier to shop online without a tugging toddler, but then I tend to go overboard when I shop online.
ParisB says
A low carb diet I believe works for a quick short term fix. Just don’t overdo anything and you’d be fine! 😀 Sorry to hear the Laneige Water Sleeping Pack doesn’t work for you. I use it on alternate days as a quick fuss free mask
Kristine Tang says
Hey hey its weekend again!
And damn that pic makes me crave CKT (char kuey teo) suddenly….haha! But well..I’m in Penang and all…land of good CKTs 😛 Now on with the polls!
1. Are you into diets and dieting?
Not much of crash dieting or anything per se but I do try to practice a healthier diet as of late. I started working out regularly about beginning of the year and wanting to loose weight (well..I was a bit on the plump side :P) I thought it would be a good idea to do a ‘2-pronged attack’ and practice better eating habits as well. Plus, when you’re working out and running like a dog, you tend to feel hesitant to pop that can of coke and take in that large intake of unnecessary sugar and calories after all that effort of trying to burn calories running (maybe its just me with this psychology. Haha!). I do still enjoy my coke sometimes.
I don’t believe in dieting cuz…once you get off the routine, the weight tends to just pop back in and sometimes cause more disaster than before. Well that, and I love to cook and I love my food. So I try to practice a 3:2:1 ratio meal diet of sort. They say “You break fast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a beggar” which really kinda makes sense to me. You need a lot of energy at the start of your day and only a little at dinner cuz that’s the time you do the least activity. My only problem was dinner is about the only time I social with friends. All in all, I’d say this lil method of mine works for me and I’m happy with it. I go for weekend food feast while visiting the bf and my weight doesn’t pop out on the weighing scale end of the weekend and scare the hell outta me…that, I’m grateful. Haha!
2. Sweet or savoury?
My bf prefers savoury snacks. Whenever I try to tempt him with some delicious looking sweet stuff, he’d say “U know I prefer salty stuff”….for me I guess I prefer sweet stuff when it comes to desserts. Don’t have much of a preference I suppose but when I think of the snacks I enjoy, majority of them are on the sweet side. Haha! Ooooo waffles, banana and vanilla ice cream with choco syrup. Okay it’s a lil early to be thinking of that on a Saturday morn. ;P
3. Are you hot tempered?
Mmmmmmm yes I think. I have very little patients and I get pissed and annoyed easily. Colleagues have stepped on my tail and engaged in a shoutfeast across the room. 😛
4. One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week?
Bah I haven’t been playing around new beauty items lately. Tho there is that new hair accessory I got from pasar malam that I simply love. And that waist belt. Oh and that new Braun Buffel wallet I bought from Singapore Sales (which I absolutely love). ‘New’ is I suppose going on an outing with the bf and his friends during his birthday without makeup (just a lil foundation cuz we were going steamboat barbeque grill buffet and I thought the makeup was just gonna melt in the heat) and he said he liked me without makeup. Bah.
5. Do you shop online?
Yes and I love it..but don’t do it often enough (mostly due to financial restrictions than anything else..haha!). Tho sometimes I feel disappointed when certain fashion items/accessories don’t look like what was advertised in the online pictures.
Bah..that was a long one. But I tend to be ‘long air’ (cheong hei) …kekeke! Enjoy ur weekend ParisB!
ParisB says
Haha… thanks for sharing Kristine! I’d be happy to let you have all my desserts. I can get along quite nicely without sweets 😉 i share your problem in respect of online shopping for fashion items. Its always so disappointing when something arrives and looks nothing like what you expected or what it looks like online. These days, I don’t shop online for those anymore, and if I do, I make sure its much cheaper online and that I’ve checked out the actual item prior to placing my online order
lyn says
Are you into diets and dieting?
You’ve seen me and you’ve seen my size, so the answer is no 🙂 I believe in eating in moderation and I do try to eat healthily. The hubs and I will usually indulge during weekends. I need to exercise more that diet. My mum and several aunts are on a perpetual Atkins diet and they avoid carbs like the plague.
Sweet or savoury?
Savoury and sour! Hubs is the one with a sweet tooth. I don’t even like sweet meats such as char siu or lap cheong.
Are you hot tempered?
I have quite an even temper. Compared to the rest of my family, I seem to be the least emotional one. There are times where I might blow up but they don’t happen often and I can’t remember the last time I got really angry. I can control my emotions and temper very well.
One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week?
Guerlain Meteorites. I got the travel-size duo on my recent trip to HK. I honestly have no clue how to use it properly although you’ve given me some tips.
Do you shop online?
Yes but strangely enough, I hardly buy beauty products online. I usually shop for yarn (I knit), gadget related stuff, bags (most recent order was from Cath Kidston) and sometimes clothes.
ParisB says
I don’t eat lap cheong either (because I don’t like the taste) but I do like apple sauce with roast pork mmm 😉 Having met you, I can imagine you’d have quite a sweet temper … quite unlike myself LOL! I love Guerlain Meteorites 😛 I just apply them all over with a fluffy brush – don’t expect to see any results because its quite imperceptible, but it gives a lovely finished look I love. Now, where did you buy your Cath Kidson?! (I’m always looking for new places to shop for bags haha!)
lyn says
Got Cath Kidston directly from website: https://www.cathkidston.co.uk/
If you’re into country / shabby chic, you’d probably like her designs. I’m quite a fan! Shipping is pricey but the exchange rate is pretty good at the moment.
I’ve used Meteorites a few times with a smaller face brush. Maybe I’ll use a bigger, fluffier brush the next time. Am not quite sure what I’m supposed to see.
ParisB says
Not quite into Cath Kidson, but was curious about where you got it from 😉
Hanny says
Are you into diets and dieting?
Technically, I don’t diet. But, I’ve never been into snacks and sugary drinks. The only thing I have at home is the carton of Anglia Shandy from Chinese New Year and that’s already half gone throughout the months. ^.^ I only have one meal with rice a day (lunch or dinner) with whatever my mom cooks.
I used to do leg-ups and sit ups at home but then I got bored. Am into swimming now (once per week) because there’s a public pool near my Uni. Thanks to the little bit more of effort, I’ve managed to be able to get into a pair of skinny jeans from forever21, yay! Alright, I cheated. Them jeans were stretchy.
Sweet or savoury?
Both! I usually crave for ice-based desserts (ice kacang, Taiwanese shaved ices, but most importantly: blended ices). But at home, cream crackers are I have so I snack on them most regularly. If I’m particularly hungry, I’ll stick a slice of cheese between two crackers and bite away. Yay!
Are you hot tempered?
Dreadfully so. I get worked up over the tiniest details.
One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week?
Currently nothing, what with my finals and all. >.< Oh yes, PB, how long did it take for your Sigma brushes to arrive? I really, really feel like getting two brushes (flat top kabuki and the tapered face brush) but I was wondering if I should check out Sephora's brushes after my finals. Hmmm…
Do you shop online?
Yes of course! I particularly love Makeupgeek.com for NYX products. ^.^
ParisB says
Stretchy or not, congrats on fitting into skinny jeans! I don’t even bother Haha! I think my Sigma brushes arrived in less than 2 weeks – quite usual shipping time from the USA for me.
Jacqueline says
1) I’m into keeping fit so I try to exercise as much as I can. I dance and run a lot. I don’t diet but watch what I eat. I eat what I want but in moderation.
2) Sweets! All kinds especially ice cream and cakes! Anything chocolate.
3) I am very hot tempered.
4) I’m been using my Hourglass aura cheek stain this week and loving it.
5) I’m a online shopperholic. Especially for beauty products and clothes.
ParisB says
That Hourglass Aura Cheek Stain looks amazing! I will have to check them out when I go down to Singapore 😀 Online shopping sure opens up a whole new world doesn’t it? 😀
Dini says
1. Are you into diets and dieting?
No can do… used to have an eating disorder when I was in my teens but now I find that I’ve kind of discovered a happy way of going about eating. I eat what I want, if I overeat, I eat a bit less later.
2. Sweet or savoury?
Both! I have to eat a bit of both at a given snacking time.
3. Are you hot tempered?
Terribly so. I’ve calmed down over the past year but I can really get mad. I don’t blow up though, I am the silent ignoring type.
4. One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week?
Been at home sick so I’ve been trying out all my lip products. I just tried on the Lakme Aqua Fusion lipstick I picked up in India a few months ago. It is AWESOME.
5. Do you shop online?
Yes I do, mostly at Strawberry Net (thanks for the review Paris B!) because I use Dr Brandt products and they’re a lot cheaper. I also shop from the Book Depository. Just ordered a top from ESN yesterday… since its my first time shopping for clothes online, I hope its nice!
ParisB says
I’m glad you realised you had a problem and solved it Dini! Usually, people are in denial if they have an eating problem. Strawberrynet is such a horrible (but good) place for my wallet. Sigh… I can always find something (or two) to get 😛
Lilly says
1. Are you into diets and dieting?
Yes. Vege juice for breakfast. Blended fruits for lunch. Eggs & vege for tea .. since I hit the daily quota of vitamins, I allow myself to eat whatever I want for dinner but limited to 1 plate the size of my hand. So if I have ice-cream, then my char kuey teow would be half-size-plate. On holidays, I am more relaxed .. eating anything under the sun but limited to 1 plate per meal. Once in a while, I will slip and if I do, I get back in the wagon by doing double-gym-time the next day. As you get older, you have to sacrifice way more to stay in shape .. sigh~
2. Sweet or savoury?
Both. Since I have a tooth problem recently, I try to avoid them by not stacking “bad” food in my house. My only comfort food is low fat choc milk. If I have a hankering, I have to crawl out to get it .. and most of the time, I avoid the hassle.
3. Are you hot tempered?
Yes. But I try to control it in public as I hate displaying “drama”. I will do some hand-yoga to release or … excuse myself & blow up in the loo!
4. One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week?
Kenepin 360degrees-Rotation Body Massager. It has in-built platinum balls which rotates 360degrees .. this gadget rolls my stress away! Whenever I have insomnia, I get my hubby to roll it on the back of my body from head to toe. After 30mins, I sleep like a baby! And its only rm20! Initially, I bought it to tone down my legs but I don’t see any improvement.
5. Do you shop online?
No, I like to “touch” the items before I purchase them.
ParisB says
Goodness Lilly, you are disciplined about your food! *looks shiftily at my char kuey teow* I’m really not good at all at things like that 😛 That body massager thing is truly intriging! Where do you get it and can one use it solo? 😀
maggie says
1.Are you into diets and dieting? yes! all the time :/ no fun at all . i admit i’m that typical women who constantly checking on her weight scale. especially after i hit 30. my metabolism kinda slow down from then on and i found my tummy ballooning every after single meal! :0 but i luv my food :/ so i’ve been practising eating in small portion and cut on carb.
2.Sweet or savoury? must both in a roll! lol! after savoury must be sweetened by dessert or some snack after dessert. thats only i will feel ‘complete’~~ 😛
3.Are you hot tempered? more of mood swing
4.One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week? mac irridescent powder! an accident buy :/ gotto make it work~
5.Do you shop online? nope 🙂
ParisB says
I actually don’t own a weighing scale. Never have 😛 But I do eat in moderation – and I don’t do things like “all you can eat” or “buffets” anymore because you tend to over eat at those things. Instead, I prefer to have smaller portions of good quality food and get back to the pleasure of eating something good 🙂
Angel says
I did this poll in my blog and enjoying it! Have a great weekend, Paris!
ParisB says
Thanks for letting me know Angel 🙂
Violet says
1.I tried dieting a couple of times but I ended up eating much than usual…honestly it’s not healthy, like you said moderation is the key!
2. I have an absolute sweet tooth.I like everything that’s sweeeeeeeeet!!!:))
3. Very hot tempered…Grrrrrrr!
4.None this week but I intend to experiment with eye shadows soon.
5.Never shopped online, my parents say it’s risky!
ParisB says
Hurrah for experimenting with eyeshadows! You won’t look back! 🙂 Shopping online is risky, but it depends on where you shop and what you shop for. If its a reputable site, its not much riskier than going to a mall 🙂
Lee says
1. Are you into diets and dieting?
It depends what is the definition of diets. I don’t particularly follow any popular diets but I control my intake of food from strictly protein and vegetable to loosing up now, where I include some low G.I. carbs. It’s all about the effort one puts in and the result one wants to achieve. I don’t believe in doing the extremes but long term result needs long term effort. The rebound rate will definitely be much smaller than doing a crashed diet.
2. Sweet or savoury?
Entreé, plate should be savoury, dessert should be sweet. I ove to have both 😀 However, I cannot reject awesome crisps :p
3. Are you hot tempered?
I’ve calmed down a lot but injustice pisses the hell out of me.
4. One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week?
Various sheer foundations! From Armani luminous silk, Armani face face fabric to Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua.
5. Do you shop online?
It would be the end of the world for me if shopping online didn’t exist 😀
ParisB says
I have to agree about dieting – if we want a result to last, we have to control our food intake in the long term, not feast and famine as we go. That isn’t healthy either. And I don’t know what I’d do without online shopping either!
Amanda says
Are you into diets and dieting?
YES! This last 6 months I gain like 3-4kg, and I want to look slim on my graduation next month, so… I’m diet! 🙁
Sweet or savoury?
Savoury but I love to end the savoury food with cool sweet desert 😀
Are you hot tempered?
Yeah… and moodie. Trying to control it 🙂
One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week?
Nothing new this week, my assignment is killing me till have no time to play with my new makeup.
Do you shop online?
Yups, I got some stuff that I cant found in Malaysia or Indonesia. Lately I spend more on online shop.
ParisB says
Congratulations on your impending graduation! 😀
domncroxd says
1. Are you into diets and dieting? On and off, depending on how I feel about myself. I can’t stay on a diet for long though. At most maybe 3 days.
2. Sweet or savoury? – Savoury! Without a doubt. I love me some salt & vinegar chips!
3. Are you hot tempered? – I’m not sure…I’ve been getting mixed reviews from friends. Some say I’ve mellowed over the years and some say that I’m still prone to bouts of random impatience. Oh dear.
4. One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week? The Body Shop’s Honey & Oat 3-in-1 scrub mask 🙂
5. Do you shop online? Yessssss. I eagerly look out for parcels shipped to the office … they brighten up my day.
ParisB says
I love it when the postman brings a parcel too! I love it best when I’ve forgotten about it and then it appears haha!
Marina(Makeup4all) says
Are you into diets and dieting? NO, I like to eat and I wish I could eat the yummy dish you’ve posted here 😉
Sweet or savoury? I am with you here
Are you hot tempered? And againg, it seems like you’ve written about me.
One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week? This month I’ve bought waaaay too many new makeup products, so I am trying them all out.
Do you shop online? I buy A LOT of makeup and beauty products on-line.
ParisB says
I love to eat too! Hence I could never diet 😛 It looks like we have a lot in common Marina! Temper, food., online shopping… 😀

It’s 11:05am here – feeling so hungry and now I’m looking at your char kueh teow picture!! Whyyyy are you doing this to me? *LOL*
1. Are you into diets and dieting?
No. I believe in eating healthy and exercise regularly!
2. Sweet or savoury?
I prefer sweet stuffs. When I’m craving for something sweet, I usually bake bunch of muffins or cupcakes (not so healthy I know).
3. Are you hot tempered?
Hot-tempered by nature! 😀 It’s even worse when I’m PMSing – I call it red alert!
4. One beauty item you’ve been experimenting with this week?
Origins A Perfect World For Eyes
5. Do you shop online?
I shop online a lot but none is beauty related. I buy a lot of fabrics and craft supplies online 😉
