Day 15 of 30 : Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lipgloss in Nectar

May 31, 2011 Paris B 18 Comments

This was a gift from a dear friend and my first introduction to Hourglass cosmetics. I love all my enabler friends who introduce me to very nice but little known cosmetics brands, and fuel my wants. Sigh… I do still love you all k? 😉

hourglass extreme sheen nectar

Hourglass Cosmetics hail from the USA and are, for the want of a nicer word, pricey. Alright. VERY pricey! A lipgloss retails at US$28. Who was moaning about Chanel lippies again? 😉 I was gifted with the Hourglass Extreme Sheen lipgloss in Nectar, a lovely bright coral. I knew I’d love the colour the minute I clapped eyes on it. Yes, my friends know me well LOL!

Japanese Makeup How To: Makeup Tips from Toru Kobayashi RMK Makeup Artist

May 31, 2011 Paris B 65 Comments

Last week, I was invited to speak to Mr. Toru Kobayashi, RMK Makeup Artist, and to learn a little more about the RMK brand and the RMK Style of makeup. I love talking to makeup artists – there is a tip to learn from every single one of them, and Toru Kobayashi was no exception. Although he spoke only Japanese, an interpreter and his effort to get his message across to me helped tremendously. I took away some excellent Japanese makeup tips on applying makeup the Japanese way, and I think that sharing is a good thing! 😉

Japanese Makeup Tips: Base Makeup Is Very Important

rmk base

L-R: RMK Control Color N, RMK Smoothing Polished Base, RMK Pressed Powder N

I’ve noticed that the Japanese brands place a lot of emphasis on the base. They take great pains to ensure that the base makeup which includes primer, concealer, foundation and highlighter is done well to create a natural yet flawless look for the skin. A base done well, combined with well applied mascara and a light lip is good enough for a barely there style of makeup which the Japanese favour, Mr. Toru proclaimed. Although he uses RMK products, I’ll try to tell you about other products which might fit the bill approximately 🙂

Hide pores with a primer

Toru-san’s favourite product for creating the perfect base is the RMK Smoothing Polished base (photoshop in a tube!) It covers pores, creates a smooth base to work on and helps foundation last and last. He only applied it on selected areas – nose including the sides and on the cheeks. The smoothing effect is visible almost immediately hence it being photoshop in a tube. You could probably get a similar effect with a primer or tinted skin smoother of your choice. Clarins makes one but as luck would have, it I can’t find my sample! 😛

Day 14 of 30 : Dior Serum de Rouge Corail (Coral) Serum No. 730

May 30, 2011 Paris B 29 Comments

Ah Serum de Rouge, one of my favourite lippies! I love that they help treat my lips whenever they feel chapped and dry, so if I have horrid dry lips, this is the range of lipsticks I reach for. It doesn’t accentuate the dry skin and helps treat it so it only gets better throughout the day.

I have quite a few now since their launch *ahem* and I’ve been mostly happy with them all. This one’s No. 730 Corail Serum (French) or Coral Serum (English) which is, as the name implies, a lovely soft coral lipstick. Who was it who was asking me for coral lipstick recs? Take a look at this one! 🙂

It looks absolutely BORING in the tube. Just look at that. Blah. But once swiped on skin, its a lovely pigmented soft coral. Pigmented yet light on lips; lipstick yet lipgloss. Love!

Hey you Shady Lady! Yes you – TheBalm Shady Lady Eyeshadow Palette Vol. 2

May 30, 2011 Paris B 10 Comments

I’d heard a lot of raves about TheBalm Shady Lady eyeshadow palettes for a long time. I never tried them because, well, a bit pettily, I had a bit of bad run-in with the brand when they came in last year, so that quite clouded my perception of the brand. A brand with good products can sometimes really spoil it for themselves with crappy PR but there you go. Rants aside, I finally put prejudices aside, and took the plunge recently with some of their products and I must say that I have liked what I have tried thus far. Pettily however, I get my stuff online so local prices are quite unknown to me 😛

TheBalm Shady Lady Eyeshadow Palette Vol. 2

Now, Shady Lady Eyeshadow Palette Vol. 2! I think Shady Lady Vol. 3 is already out and Vol. 2 is getting hard to find, so this one is going to be kept short. I don’t usually like reviewing discontinued stuff, but I have to with this one because I much prefer the look of Vol. 2 to Vol. 3. The latter contains too many light shades while I think Vol. 2 is a more well rounded balanced palette.
