All Aboard the Anna Sui Flight of Fancy!

February 11, 2011 Paris B 22 Comments

All Aboard!

If we could even take off on this Flight of Fancy, that is.

review anna sui flight of fancy perfume fragrance

I love the look of the stopper of the Anna Sui Flight of Fancy perfume bottle. It would be better of as glass of course. Plastic doesn’t cut it, sorry! But the fanciful stopper looks a little odd against the square block of glass that forms the bottle. Perhaps they were trying to anchor the fancy stopper with the heavy base. Who knows eh? One doesn’t anchor a flight of fancy – one lets go and flies!

So with a name like Flight of Fancy, when I unstoppered the bottle and spritzed on the fragrance by Anna Sui, I expected to be transported into a fanciful world. What I was transported to was a mango orchard.

Kahani and Plue described the scent as lychees. I like the smell of lychees so I was eagerly anticipating that. However, what my nose detected was not lychees but mangoes. Not the cloying sweet scent of over ripe mangoes, but a light fizzy scent of fresh mango ripened in the sun.

You read it right. I smelt a fizzy mango. To my untrained nose, if you blend fresh mango with a fizzy drink like Sprite or 7-Up, you’d get the fragrance of Flight of Fancy. I’m not too far wrong – the top notes are supposed to be yuzu and citrus. I don’t quite get that, just a light fizzy mango scent.

I actually rather liked it 🙂 For all of 2 hours.

Entering the 3rd hour, there was nothing left. Hello? Where did my scent go?

I believe that since the notes are so citrusy and light, it dissipated faster than if it had a heavier muskier scent to anchor it down, like the heavy base of the bottle.

This is the Anna Sui Flight of Fancy –  a fanciful scent that is fleeting and light like a fanciful dream. Perhaps nice for a young girl curled up on a chaise longue dreaming of bigger things to come; but for the older me, I prefer something a little stronger and heavier. Perhaps its because I no longer indulge in fleeting flights of fancy 🙂

Hmmm…. I wonder how the Night of Fancy compares to this one… But then again, I still have me Red Delicious that I have not used at all…

Didn’t sniff Night of Fancy but from its name I might hazard a guess that its a tad heavier?

HAHA! Well once you remove the cap, its just a regular bottle 😀 It does look pretty on the vanity. Except my vanity is so cluttered I can’t even place it there!

i find Anna Sui’s fragrance very Escada-ey. As in, all of em are sweet and fruity and fizzy to a certain degree, and all smell like, for some reason, cocktails on an island is Hawaii. which, while smells good, is not something I want to smell LIKE.

you know, like i love Palmers Cocoa Butter lipbalm, but some how it was a big mistake buying the shampoo because now my hair smells like After Eight, which as i said, smells great but……..

Apt description! Cocktails on an island in Hawaii… wish I were there now! And I know exactly what you mean. In my case, I’m sort of glad the scent dissipated quickly because I don’t think I could have handled anything that sweet sticking to me too long. And I love After Eight 😛

now that I have flu, I can’t smell a single thing from Flight of Fancy.

But the heavier scents like Gucci Guilty, yes I do. LOL.

Oh hope you feel better soon! This isn’t a scent I can detect even without the flu 😛

i fell in love with this about a year back and got the 50ml bottle, but enjoyed it for maybe 3 days, after which i got really repulsed by sickeningly sweet scent it turned into on me. so i passed it on to my mother who complains it’s too young for her but uses it anyway.

Aww… its a nice scent in small doses isn’t it? Maybe if you just spritz it once? Would that work ? 🙂

I notice Anna Sui perfumes just stay for max 1-2 hrs.. I had the same exp with Secret Wish.. truly in love with the smell but it just did not last. So, i gave up on Anna Suis. hehe.

This is actually the first time I’ve tried an Anna Sui perfume. I guess I could wear it for when I just want it to last for 2 hours 🙂

    Hi Paris,
    How are you today?
I love how creative Anna Sui is with their design and packaging. Even the names are gorgeous! Only if the bottle doesn’t look too “plastic” :p All in all, I think they really stand out because of the creativity 🙂

Hi mrsdjones, I’m doing well today – I hope you are too! 😀 I must agree with you about the creativity behind Anna Sui’s fragrance bottles. It looks so artistic next to the regular square, round, tall and short bottles out there right? Have you tried any of her scents?

When you described the scent, I was reminded of one Escada scent as well (which I won in a contest), particularly the lychee part, which I didn’t exactly like for myself so I gave it to my mum.

EDTs generally last a couple of hours; for my money’s worth I’d get an EDP instead.

I just don’t like the smell of fruit on people; fruit should smell like fruit, not people.

I usually prefer EdPs myself too just coz its more value for money 😉 I like what you said that fruit should smell like fruit not people… unless we encounter some fruity people 😉

I had this last year though from a good friend of mine 😀 Came with a yellow pouch.

Mangoes for you? LOL I guess I am the only weirdo here, it smells like fresh fizzy pineapple to me! 😛 Just use it occasionally on some weekends only though 😀

Yikes, citrusy scent and a fragrance that doesn’t last past the 3 hour mark doesn’t sound good. Not liking the awkward bottle either. The box is nice though. It’s the sort of thing that would stand out in a sea of perfume boxes, inviting you to have a closer look at it. 😛
