The MWS Weekend Poll No. 2 : Wither thou blue skies?

January 22, 2011 Paris B 23 Comments

Happy Saturday Ladies!

We got quite a good response 2 weeks ago, so I’m going to run this little weekend questionnaire again, because I’m nosy 😉

blue skies finally!
  • Save

Hasn’t it been gloomy lately though, weather-wise? We don’t get winter here, but it might as well be winter with the unusually cool weather, grey skies and rain all the time. Midway through the past week there was some sun so I quickly took this picture so I can hold on to the blue skies and fluffy white clouds 🙂 The weather seems to be improving with lots more sun so that’s good!

What are you looking forward to this weekend?

I’m actually away this weekend on a bit of a pilgrimage 🙂 So I’m looking forward to cheap massages and stuffing my face with good food. Don’t know if I’ll have time to squeeze in any shopping since its just for 24 hours >.<

Your favourite purchase of the week?

I bought some new clothes last weekend (getting rid of lots of old ones) and my favourite is this grey striped form fitting dress with a matching sash, that is so very chic! Moschino inspired I was told. It wouldn’t look out of place on the fashionable streets of Paris and Milan that’s for sure! 😀

Have you read a good book lately?

I just finished Autobiography of a Geisha. It totally dispels all your romantic notions of geishas and what we saw and read in Memoirs of a Geisha. Its a good read and I felt for the author. Its a very hard life being a Geisha outside of the glitz and glamour associated with the trade and its an even harder life once they stop being Geisha. I got mine from the Book Depository. Definitely worth a read.

Did you discover something new this week?

I discovered a new beauty blog – Cafe Makeup. Photography is gorgeous and the blog feels very elegant. Maybe that Eiffel Tower in the header adds to the chicness 😉 I enjoyed browsing and I hope you do too 🙂

What’s one good thing and one awful thing that happened to you last week?

Good thing: I got an invite to go on a press trip!
Bad thing: I had to turn it down for various reasons including short notice. Oh well, here’s hoping there’ll be another! hehe… 🙂

If you’d like to participate in the Weekend Poll, just copy these questions and answer them in the comment box below 🙂

What are you looking forward to this weekend?
Knitting and finishing off the hat I started last weekend. Some reading and trying out some new cocktail recipes. And a mini facial at home with my favourite SKII masks.

Your favourite purchase of the week?
I’m not sure if it’s constituted as this week; I got a pair of Chloe Kimberley ankle-length boots from Net-a-porter and they arrived yesterday morning. I tried them on with a mini dress and I’m delighted with how I can carry it off on cooler summer evenings! 🙂

Have you read a good book lately?
The dog that saved my life. Been in a soppy sappy mood lately and I love goggies. 😛 All about dogs out at war and they make me all warm and fuzzy and happy 🙂

Did you discover something new this week?
That I can still do uni-level differential equations because I made myself check some exercises out to see how I go. Glutton for punishment 😛

What’s one good thing and one awful thing that happened to you last week?
Met with an old friend and her baby for lunch. Heart-to-heart talks with her. And that LV fixed my Alma with no extra charge.

Bumped into someone I hadn’t seen or talked to for a bit in the city last night. We exchanged hugs and walked away. I stood on the balcony of my favourite bar nursing a gin and tonic, staring at the summer city skyline. Melbourne’s gorgeous this time of the year and it’s cool and I cried for an hour because we had to walk away but I didn’t feel any better after the cry. I know, it’s cryptic but I think you know what I mean.

Yes doing uni level differential equations when you don’t have an exam to sit for is a glutton for punishment 😛 Hoping you feel less sad soon. Life is short to be sad a long time 🙁 *hugs*

Yay for learning to use chopsticks the proper way! 😀 I must confess to cringing every time I see people mangle the use of chopsticks – its such an elegant tool but can be so clumsy in the wrong hands 🙁 I got one of those Sunway Pyramid voucher books before. Big con job!

It keeps makes me happier than when its gloomy weather 🙂 I think I’m like a sunflower gravitating towards the sun LOL! 😀 Glad to learnt new nail art! I have a lot of respect for anyone who has the patience to dabble in that!

    4. Did you discover something new this week?
Yes, but a bad discovery! My tummy is super big and I’m not pregnant! Must be the bad effect of the medication given to me (long story, can explain over PM) lol.

    5. What’s one good thing and one awful thing that happened to you last week?
Got sick for 2 days! Again, it must be the medication I was telling you on no. 4! Stayed in bed feeling nauseous, headache, tummyache, bodyache! Everything’s just wrong!!!! <— that's super awful.

What are you looking forward to this weekend?
A loooong nap! Or maybe a visit to a weekly flea market, depending how things go.

Your favourite purchase of the week?
Stage’s Wondergloss in Narcissus! Yummy. 😀

Have you read a good book lately?
‘The Art of Racing in the Rain’ by Garth Stein – the man writes so well, I couldn’t put it down!

Did you discover something new this week?
Does the Stage sale count? :p Also found out I didn’t, in fact, have a completely oily skin in terms of my face – turns out I had dry skin around my cheek area.

What’s one good thing and one awful thing that happened to you last week?
Good thing: Drove from Subang Empire to KLCC with friends at 8 at night! The rush of impulsive decisions is always amazing. 😀

Nothing particularly bad this week, unless you count being sleepy at work. :p

    I’ll just answer No. 4 and 5.

Did you discover something new this week?
So, there I was at the wedding, wearing a knockout cocktail dress, red lipstick and… 2 sleepy boys in my lap. As it turns out, I am the only one who can keep my troublemaker cousins in order so my frazzled uncle was only too grateful to hand me the kids for the night as his wife is away for a week. The boys clung to me like limpets and ended up falling asleep in my lap. My knees and arms were shaking for an hour afterwards.

All the other relatives are after me as a weekend babysitter now.

What’s one good thing and one awful thing that happened to you last week?
Gave my first presentation to a huge client and fielded all of their questions perfectly. Proceeded to get smashed at the closest bar to celebrate and had to have fish soup noodles to sober up before heading back to the office.

Before that, I got yelled at by a government department, lost my temper and yelled back down the phone. Not one of my best moments. Oh, and I nearly got hit by a lorry the other day. Thank goodness the cars behind me were alert and weren’t going fast when I swerved.

Well with babysitting work comes employment opportunities 😉 But kids and I don’t get along very well. Very good. I’d never be asked to babysit 😀 And nearly getting hit by a lorry?! I’m glad you are safe!

Can I make that two? Splurged on two new 5-inch babies! 😀

    3. Have you read a good book lately?
Just discovered Stieg Larsson – on the second book right now.

    4. Did you discover something new this week?
Yes, that I’m better at my job that I thought!

    5. What’s one good thing and one awful thing that happened to you last week?
The good thing? Coming home and feeling relieved that my daughter still remembers me!! The bad – can’t say – my boss will kill me :p

    Have a great trip, Paris!

I just finished the 2nd Stieg Larsson book myself and starting on the third. Bit slow in parts but for once I’m pleased to be reading a book that isn’t set in the USA or any familiar part of Europe. Sweden and violent crime of the nature described in the book just doesn’t quite gel does it? 🙂 And 5 inch babies? err… okay….

Did you discover something new this week?
    – I never knew I had so many boxes around, some of them empty 😛

What’s one good thing and one awful thing that happened to you last week?
    – Good: Having classes cancelled because of Thaipusam, and that means I get to spend more time spring cleaning!
    – Awful: Being stressed out about spring cleaning 🙁 Too much stuff, too little space! Plus, I’m a sentimental pack rat, so it can be a little excruciating if I have to dispose of stuff.

Oh, and Memoirs of a Geisha is pretty romanticised, but it can’t beat Geisha Of Gion by Mineko Iwasaki. -That- is really romanticised (In my opinion), and it seems like it has been all roses and smooth sailing for it. Can’t stand the book :\

I’ll take a look next time 😀 So, did you learn anything new from the Feng Shui event? 😀 I know some people who actually book way in advance to learn about what the coming year has in store for us! I believe it with a pinch of salt, but I prefer to take things as they come
