A perfect pout with Shiseido Perfect Rouge in Dragon

January 3, 2011 Paris B 19 Comments

When I met up with friends on the first day of the year, we agreed that everyone would sport red lips. The redder the better. A couple of them got a bit of ribbing for not being red enough, but it was all in good fun and really, you’d be surprised at how good everyone looked in a red lipstick – don’t believe me? Try it yourself and see 🙂

On my end, I broke out the Shiseido Perfect Rouge in RD514 or Dragon. I picked it up a month or so ago and had been finding an occasion to wear it. Not that I ever do, but still a significant occasion would be nice 🙂

I tried the Shiseido Perfect Rouge texture a while ago and I loved it. The bubblegum pink shade I received however was just not right for me, as many of you agreed 😛 But I loved the texture of the lipstick and it really is an amazing lipstick. If you dislike wearing lipstick because you think it too thick, heavy, waxy, give the Shiseido Perfect Rouge range a try. You’d be surprised at how light yet pigmented it is on your lips, so one swipe gives you good colour without that waxy heavy feel. There are more wearable everyday shades available of course. But this is about RD514 – Dragon. The red lipstick that Dick Page created for everyone.

Apparently, Dragon is a red lipstick that anyone of any skin tone or skin colour can wear. The red is a deep true red, but on my lips it has a bluish undertone which suits my skintone perfectly. You can also see it on Yani where it looks markedly different. Perhaps there’s truth in the statement that it was made for everyone.

As I said, it slicks on like a charm with just 1 swipe and does not dry my lips out at all. It is creamy without being oily and importantly, it does not smear nor feather nor bleed on me. Very nice! Lasting power is good. It lasted me more or less throughout cups of water and lunch. I can swipe on some gloss over the stain if I like and have a brand new lip colour.

This is a glamourous red that is strangely subtle yet eye catching. Its not glossy but its not matte either. It is a good balanced red I will keep in my handbag for those times when I need to look effortlessly glam. Its that sort of lipstick 🙂

Pros: Light formula, No waxy feel, Pigmented, No scent

Cons: Pricey

Oh you might be wondering how this one might be different from that other Shiseido red lipstick I tried – RD325 (Coral Glow) in the Glowing Matte formula.

Firstly, the texture is markedly different. Perfect Rouge glides onto the lips creamy yet light. Glowing Matte has a drier formula so it tugs on the lips and does not apply as smoothly. Secondly, Glowing Matte needs a few layers before it shows up well. Perfect Rouge just needs one.

Colourwise, Dragon is a straight red that stands out brilliantly. Coral Glow is a red you can wear in the day and not turn heads.

If you want to try a red lipstick without being too bold, try Coral Glow in the Perfect Matte formula. But if you want to go all out red, pull out all stops and go for Dragon. Rawr! 😉

Have you tried any of the Shiseido Perfect Rouge lipsticks? I’ve got another one in pink somewhere, that I picked up the same time I picked up Dragon. I”m going to try to wear pink lipsticks this year too 😀

Great minds think alike! That’s the red lipstick I used yesterday too! I got a sample sized of the lipstick and thought yesterday was the day to use it since I missed it on 1st Jan. And you’re right, I love the texture of this lipstick and I’m looking forward to getting more in different colours. 🙂 🙂 🙂 It works well with my skin tone too and I got a little tanned yesterday with a day spent out in the park but I swiped it on on the drive home and it still looked OK. Gives a pop of colour on my otherwise pale but tanned (possible) face.

SNAP! 😀 Isn’t it such a gorgeous gorgeous colour? We have similar skintones so it should work beautifully for us hehe… Do take a look at the other colours. I think there are 25 in all… or maybe more in this formula. I got one called Pink Tourmaline. I hope it doesn’t turn out too pink on me.

Hmm… I’m not sure how he’s like that. Maybe introduce red lipsticks bit by bit? A lip stain or sheer red and then graduate to a brighter red?

Why is it that so many red lipsticks are called Dragon? LOL
Whoa, maybe I should pull out my red lippies.. I haven’t worn them for many months, because they are high maintenance.

Such coincidence! I’ve been lusting for that very same lipstick for some time now, but never got to buy it. And seeing how gorgeous it goes on you, I want it now! 😀

I’ll only break out the red lipstick for dinners or for outings with you gals! 😛

But I love what Petra said – “Wearing a red lipstick should be like wearing a bikini. Gotta do it with confidence!”

Haha yeah. Red lipstick is really best kept for evenings where for some reason, it goes with everything and anything 🙂
