Luxury Lipstick! Tom Ford Moroccan Rouge Lipstick

December 22, 2010 Paris B 45 Comments

Its taken me so long to desecrate the Tom Ford lipstick I was gifted with by a lovely lipstick loving friend. I mean this is a luxury lipstick. I have to give it its due 🙂

First, take a moment to stare at the TF initials etched into the top of the lipstick. We’ve seen brands etch their names on the side – Chanel and Revlon come to mind. Dior Rouge too! But Tom Ford, being unconventional, etches his initials right on top of the lipstick.

Next, savour the heft and the smooth lines of the white lacquered case. We always see lipsticks in gold or black cases right? Tom Ford isn’t conventional so his is a smooth white trimmed in gold. And its got good heft to it. A good luxury lipstick can be measured by its heft.

Also, there’s his name again – Tom Ford – etched right into the top of the lipstick cover.

I know what you’re thinking at this point. “Enough with the case already! Show us how the colour looks!” And I will… but you have to continue on below 😛

The Tom Ford Private Blend lip colour is part of the Tom Ford cosmetics line that we do not get here in Malaysia at this time. Its also very new in the USA and Europe. I played around with some colours at the counter in Selfridges. They are seriously creamy and pigmented and among the best lipsticks I’ve ever used.

Taken with flash

My colour is Moroccan Rouge which is a deep plummy berry red. I chose it sight unseen and was quite surprised to see it in person. It was darker and deeper than I expected. I wasn’t quite sure how it’d look on me.

But as luck would have it, I absolutely love it 😀

The swatch above is done with just 1 swipe. Just 1 swipe to give that sort of opaque true to tube colour that is so hard to achieve. Actually it looks darker in the tube but it swatches a bit brighter and a touch fuchsia on my pinky lips.

The texture is creamy and it does not slip nor slide at all. It just stays put without drying out the lips and even after eating and drinking, if I don’t wipe it off, its there. There is no shimmer, just creamy glossiness that is so adult. None of that young kawaii girl look, thank you. Its a lipstick for a woman.

I wear this with a neutral eye in the day. Yes its not that bright a shade and it can pass muster for day. Its beautiful at night of course 🙂 There is a vanilla scent that is very nice too.

I love Tom Ford for coming out with these lipsticks that are far and away among the best I have tried from the luxury lipstick range. But I hate how I now want more colours 😛

Pros: Creamy colour, Long lasting, No bleeding or feathering on me, Pigmented colours, Gorgeous shades of red, Packaging is pure luxury

Cons: Unavailable in Malaysia at time of writing

If you have a friend in the UK or USA who can get you these, and want to give it a try, do note that the colours available are very strong and very skewed to the reds – browned red, plum red, bright red, its all there. None of those neutral, nude shades for Tom Ford. Oh no! Its all about rocking the glamorous red lip 😀

Do check out Tom Ford’s Cherry Lush as rocked by the Queen of red lipstick, Yani. I’m sorta glad we don’t get Tom Ford here yet… or I’d be broke 😛

Paris B

Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Color retails at US$42 or £35 each. The brand is presently unavailable in Malaysia.

Good different from your usual reds! Only a true lipstick lover will ever justify spending $42 on a lipstick but it is very gorgeous

Yup! To fork out money for this, you gotta be either a) a lipstick lover b) fan of Tom Ford or c) mad. I think I’d be c) hehe…

EEE!!! I want that lipstick! (I now admit that I have a lippie obsession), but I’ll just look at it. Its too stark for me to carry off, wuwuwu…

You know what? This is probably one of the more “wearable” shades! So yeah Tom Ford just isn’t doing things by halves. Of which I’m glad 😀

It is gorgeous! Now, how are you supposed to use the lipstick, without destroying that TF imprint? 😀

Hmm… very carefully 😉 If I were really anal about it, I’d probably use a lip brush and pick the colour off the sides. That way the top imprint remains pristine. However, I’m a philistine so I just swiped it on 😀

I am really tempted to get Coquette, but obviously it is not a popular shade or something – no one has done a review!

😀 Pixiwoo has it on her recent vid and it is stunning on her.. I do not know if it was the lip liner or lipstick that made her look so pretty though.

As they are all pretty new brands in the worldwide market (and pricier) i think we might see them come in in the future, just not so soon 🙂 we are a pretty small cosmetics market after all. I am interested in beaute de metier though but i get a heart attack at the price every time!
