Wearing Tights in the Tropics : Crazy or cool?

July 11, 2010 Paris B 34 Comments

crazy or cool

I live in the Tropics and I wear tights sometimes. Call me crazy, but it allows me to get away with wearing to work, dresses or skirts so short it’d be indecent otherwise 😛

I however only stick to black because that’s just how I like them. Fortunately for me, my office sometimes feels like the Tundra so its not quite uncomfortable to prance around in tights.

I also make sure I wear tights when I know I’ll be going to air conditioned places or else I’m likely to melt away in this heat. I did go out to a yong tau foo hawker stall for lunch one day (its my fave stall and its super hot there!) and me in my black tights did draw some stares – admittedly, it was more crazy than cool then 😉

My favourite tights come from Marks and Spencer. I don’t look anywhere else. They might come in boring colours but they work for me, and they last! I bought some nice patterned ones there too during a sale which were surprisingly nice on. I usually go for the opaque 60 denier look because I like the look of solid colours but the most adventurous I’ve been in to wear brown or grey. I personally balk at any other colour.

So what d’ya think about wearing tights in the tropics? Is it crazy or cool? Do you do it? 🙂

I do it too and think it’s perfectly fine as long as you aren’t going to melt in them 🙂

It is not crazy and don’t have to bother how people look at you. If you feel comfortable weaing , just go ahead. You don’t wear for other to see & you wear it for yourself. I also wear it sometimes & I just go ahead…who cares :)Everyone have their own fashion sense & so long you feel good & that’s it 🙂 Cheers!

I love wearing tights! Like you, I sometimes wear it to work as it allows me to wear the craziest things to office without looking indecent. Yours look so comfy! I might just go to Marks & Spencer and grab one myself!

Do try M&S! I love their tights – been buying from them for years now, both stockings and tights. They are comfy and last forever … well nearly forever 😉 Bit boring though coz they aren’t quite fashion tights, more of servicable ones

I like to wear tights under short skirt or short dress because my legs are not that smooth compare to other girls 🙁
Whenever people stare at me, I just look at them with the angry face …….. hehehehe. I have seen some girls wearing tights under denim shorts that looks kinda cool and weird at the same time too.

Aww… don’t give an angry face – just smile. Sometimes people might just be wondering how you pull it off 😉 I’d never wear them under shorts – it gives me rather unsavoury visions and besides I’m probably too old for all that LOL!

I love the sight of tights, but since I have eczema, I’m rather afraid that the patches on my legs would “act up” because I have issues with my own sweat, so I’ll have to suffer baring my scars to the world. Thank God that you have an air-conditioned workplace!

Hmm I guess that’s a problem if you have eczema. I hope it clears up with time – some people do

Totally understand how Hanny feels since I also have eczema (and really badly all over my legs), but for me tights are a lifesaver since they allow me to wear dresses without having people stare at my scarred/patchy legs. 🙂

Do you wear the skin toned ones then? I sure never noticed scarred legs even when you’re wearing a dress 😉 I used to wear tights or pantyhose all the time but not anymore 😛

Yup! I wear the skin-toned ones from Cherilon… but I can only use ’em when my skin isn’t broken or weepy from the eczema… 🙁

tights are fine.. Its not like you’re wearing boots or winter jacket.. I usually treat em like wearing leggings- below long top or super short dress or with super short skirt.. I love those from topshop! Not for corporate but funky! Maybe I should check out from M&S too.. Just too bad lately my work needs me to travel out in e sun.. My poor tights stuck at good

Hmm I’ve never tried tights from Topshop – do you mean the colourful ones? I just never quite got into the funky coloured tights hype 🙂 But do try M&S for boring serviceable colours 😀

I love wearing tights too! because its easier to move especially when you’re always on the go. it is much better this way rather than wearing short skirts and pulling your skirt all the time or checking every minute. 😀

I have a job that requires me to run around outside and I balk at wearing tights in case I get stuck out there in the heat for too long. However, sitting in the office later in the day usually gets very cold. What a dilemma! I usually end up wearing pants.

I feel that there’s seriously nothing wrong with them 😛 To me, it’s not that hot nor is it that chilly (I don’t feel the difference, honestly), and like you mentioned, it lets me get away with otherwise indecent-looking (Read: Too short) dresses or skirts! I, too, draw the line at coloured tights though. I only ever wear black!

I get mine at GAP or Cotton On, but I will try peeking in at M&S 😀

whoaa 60 dernier is what i used to wear during UK winters! i guess 60 is fine since you like solid blacks, but i usually stick to the v sheer, thin types – too hot otherwise :p do you need leg sunscreen on the days that you wear tights?

Haha yes 60 denier is winter material but they do a 60 denier look at a much lower more comfortable weave for people like me who like solids without the warmth 🙂 I don’t wear leg sunsceen at any time 😛 I guess I should?

Yes, I recently had to wear black tights because I have to be one of the “sisters” at my friend’s wedding and she wanted all of us to wear red satin dresses. Mine is too short and show my fat thighs. So have to wear….prancing about in non-aircon places too. *phew…glad its over.

Love tights! But I rarely wear them because when I am with kids sometimes it gets really HOT running after them even though the air conditioning is on full blast!
Some of my tights have runs in them after just a few wears…:( how much are the M&S ones?

lately me started to experiment with wearing tights 🙂 but i do agree, that tights aren’t exactly made for us girls in hot places like this!

it’s crazy to see girls wearing tights (thick one samo!) walking around the streets like petaling street like as though it’s cold! but the sweaty look and the streaky makeup gives away! 😛

Tights are out of my wardrobe in mid-autumn till mid-spring. I’ll die wearing them in the hot summer 😀 And I love tights with patterns (not colourful and crazy ones though) 😉
