I previously wrote about my regular visits to the Kanebo International Salon for my facials and Tine (who also goes to Kanebo) asked me to review them so I shall.
I first visited the Kanebo International Salon in Bangsar a couple of years back, when I came across a promotion in the newspapers for their facials. Since then, they are my regular facial salon.
This is what I like about going to the Kanebo Salon:
- The staff are friendly. The outfit in Bangsar is quite small. They have about 3 facial treatment rooms and 2 massage/spa rooms. There aren’t many staff so its easy to identify and build up a rapport with the girls. I’ve never had a facial at Starhill Gallery but I have visited the salon and the friendliness factor is also there. The Starhill salon is a lot larger so it can accommodate more customers.
- They don’t push products or services. It’s a fact that the staff get commissions from sale of products and services. However, from my experience, I’ve never been bugged or pressured to purchase anything that I don’t want or need at that time. They may tell you about a new product or a product which they think might be useful for you, but they don’t push you into buying it.
- The staff are knowledgeable about the products. They sell skincare products and T’estimo makeup (now Coffret D’or) at the salon. I find that whilst they may be rather less knowledgeable than I am when it comes to the makeup, their knowledge of the skincare range is quite exemplary. They are able to explain the use and benefits of each product which is helpful.
- The salon atmosphere is comfortable. The salons are quiet and elegant with background music. When I get there, my file is ready and my room is usually ready and waiting. I am served a cold peach tea with some dried apricot and at the end of the treatment, I’m served hot ginger tea. The rooms are quiet and comfortable, with dim lights and soft music. The salon at Starhill is very nice. They are supposed to be the first 6 star salon in the country.
- The treatments are relaxing. There is no unnecessary chatter from the facialist unless you ask them about the products being used. The treatments start with you getting changed into a tube gown. Then you are given a brief backrub before the facial treatment starts. The whole process is very soothing and its quite common to fall asleep. I always do. In fact, its encouraged.
The best thing of course, is that the treatments work for me. My skin always looks better for days after I go for a facial. They don’t usually do extractions unless you ask for it or unless your skin looks bad. Also, they usually trim my eyebrows which is nice. Now, my whole family and some friends go there and they all love it.
The prices of the facial treatments are rather expensive, I’d admit. Prices of facials range from RM98 to RM348 per treatment. However, as we purchase facial packages, which sometimes come with one or two freebies thrown in, the cost works out more affordable for the once a month luxury.
Kanebo salons also have body treatments. I personally recommend getting a massage from “Jenny” at the Kanebo salon in Bangsar. She is very good if you have stiff muscles as she has an uncanny ability to feel out and work out every kink in your muscles.
Here are the contact numbers of the Kanebo International salons in Malaysia:
Bangsar – 03-2292 1218
Starhill Gallery – 03-2144 1218
Gurney Plaza – 04-227 7618
If you are wondering about the service at the Kanebo International Salon in Starhill Gallery, you can read my review here.
I liked the Silk Extract Collagen Hydra-Energylift Treatment which usually retails for RM348 for 90 minutes. This facial uses a skin lifting machine and the Kanebo silk cream and silk powder that usually retail for over RM700 for a set. The skin feels smooth and hydrated for days after the treatment. This was the last set of treatments I used and I found it very good for my skin.
For acne prone or oily skin with clogged pores, you may be recommended the Deep Purifying Facial Treatment (usual RM128) where they help extract pimples and clogged pores. Regular treatments do help reduce problems with their skin as someone I know has found.
Note: Previous Promotion is over
Do give the Kanebo salons a try. I enjoy my experience there every time.

Thanks for the 50% offer! Totally tempting. BTW, do they provide facials for men too?
PB says: You’re welcome and yes they do men facials too but its advisable for the men to go along with their women friends else they may get shut out because they want to make women feel comfortable about being in the salon.
rinnah says
That is so so so tempting! Howzabout that – reading My Women Stuff pays off! But, I’m a lil’ cash strapped this month and next. Maybe before the offer expires in October!
PB says: Yes it pays to be loyal lol… get it on your credit card before it rolls over in Oct – that way you could end up paying only in Dec!

I wish I lived in Malaysia just to go to this salon! It sounds wonderful! Have any suggestions in the SAn Diego, CA area?
PB says: Well, now you know where to go should you ever come to Malaysia! 🙂 I’m sorry I’m not familiar with the CA area. Maybe someone else could help?
Tine says
Hear! Hear! Thanks for doing a review on this. I’ll do one for the one in Penang. I love Kanebo salons; so clean, so professional, so NOT irritating :p
PB says: Hear hear! I’ve never been to the one in Penang so it’ll be nice to read about it
prettybeautiful says
WOW! awesome! Thanks for the 50% off! I gotta try it before it expires. Probably some time next month, too many things to pay off this month. 🙁
PB says: Yes yes! Do try it and tell your friends too! 50% off doesn’t come by often
Sheryl says
I went to try the facial at Starhill this afternoon. Nice and clean environment and the staff are friendly. My facialist explains each step and the product used during the facial. I quite like the experience 🙂
PB says: I’m happy you enjoyed the experience! Did you get the 50% off?
Sheryl says
Yup..I got the 50% off. Thanks so much! 😀
PB says: That’s good to know!
LK says
Hello 🙂
Firstly, thank you for your review. Your description of the facials sounded fantastic and the offer too, so my friend and I popped by Starhill to check it out.
However, I was told that the 50% discount only applied to facials priced RM198 above, so I didn’t try it as my friend wasn’t too keen on the discounted facial treatments. We would like to know though if that was the agreed terms with Kanebo?
You were right about the service though, it was impeccable. I plan to go back myself to try out the facial, so thanks again 🙂
PB says: I will be checking this up for you. I’m sorry for the inconvenience! p/s will you (or anyone who knows you) please get in touch with me via email regarding this? Thanks!
ellie says
I am a regular at Kanebo Bangsar for the past 3 years. All I can say that is although the price is discounted (whether it is a 50% or so) KANEBO will NOT discount on their services and products. I have also switched all my facial products from SKII to Kanebo. Not just simply because they are cheaper, they actually work on me!
While you are at Kanebo, please see Jane, she is wonderful beautician! And Janet, she is a great masseuse.
charmaine says
hello…i tried their treatment before…but i want to enjoy the cheaper price…do you think they are flexible to gimme discount eventhough its second time there lohh????
PB says: I’m not sure about that. Maybe you can call them and ask? I only know its for first timers.
Sharon says
Hi Charmaine,
Actually I went to their saloon several times. The saloon actually from time to time got do some promotion for their facial packages. E.g lately for last month ALL their facial packages are having offer price become RM88 only (Penang side). Even the package RM348 facial package also have offer price beome RM88! Sometimes they also have promotion like buy 1 facial package free 1 facial package.
But you have to follow up their saloon news from time to time. I know because my frien working there. So whenever they have promotion, she will call me. Maybe you can ask the beuticians there to update you whenever there is any promotion for their package.
Lisa says
Thanks for the recommendation. I am in Penang and i went to Kanebo Salon at Gurney Plaza. I did the Silk Extract treatment and i was totally amazed at the outcomes. My face is hydrated for almost 1 week after the treatment.
I am wondering do you know what made the skin hydrated? is it the masks? or the silk lotion?
Anyway, Do you know what mask they used during the treatment? I didn’t ask as i was half dozing off. 🙂
PB says: I’m glad you enjoyed it. I think its a combination of the masks used and the silk cream which helps with the hydration. I’m not sure what masks are used though you could ask them. I don’t know about the Penang branch but the girls in Bangsar are usually quite friendly.
Angela says
All the main points as described above were not seen in Gurney penang branch.
I went there, and yes it’s 50% off.. but well, right after i stepped out from the room, a lady kept pushing me to sign up their packages and buying their products. she looked very impatient and looked angry when i said i wanted to reconsider. She let me feel like if i don’t sign up anything, she would not let me go.
So i ended up signing up a package which I don’t like, only then the lady let me go. i signed up to 10 times facial, and the lady even asked me to pay all the money at once. This is really ridiculous.
The lady then show the true color after i came for my 1st facial. i was signed up to brightening treatment(RM148), but the lady did the normal facial (costing RM98) on me. I did not notice anything until it ended up much earlier compared to my 1st time facial(brigtening).
I really doubt their profesionalism and honesty. everytime i went to the facial, I’ll be very alert, as they tend to cheat u if u don’t pay enough attention, especially after u sign up with their package and pay all $ for it!!
PB says: Wow! I’m sorry you had a bad encounter. I’ve never been to the Gurney Plaza branch so I must say I’m unfamiliar with their practice. Usually though, paying for a facial package at one go is quite normal procedure in most salons. But having a normal facial done when you had purchased another one is wrong. May I suggest that you take it up with the salon manager?
AkakPokPek says
Oooppss, I miss this great offer but I am going back again tomorrow after 2 times facial and one time spa there (Bangsar)in a span of 1 year. Excellent service! But their staff turnover is pretty high! Always got a different girl to do me up everytime I go back! Sigh….!!!
PB says: The girl I usually use has been there for a while. But even if they are new, their service is still pretty decent which is ok by me.

Hi,
I know you posted this some time back, i just came across it.
Is the promotiion still valid? I in the midst of choosing salon for facials, perhaps you could recommend some doing promotions now so i can try them out.
Thanks.
ParisB says
@rachn : I’m afraid the promotion is no longer available. However, there are some promotions going on in the Kanebo salon if you call and ask.
CY says
Hi. Thought I’d share this, since you say you frequent the Kanebo International Salon in bangsar. I saw this promotion on the Bridge Alliance website…

Surprisingly, when I called up the salon, the person who handled my called was not aware of such a promotion, or that it even existed?? They knew who Bridge Alliance was anyways.
Of course, I was totally (if I may say it..) pissed off.. because as she said she had no knowledge of such this on-going promotion. I am not sure if she really didn’t know, or if she knew.. or that they didn’t want to honour their promotion that they had with Bridge Alliance.

CY
Thanks for the info. I’m not sure what this entails – it looks geared towards tourists or travellers. I usually use their in house promotions which are pretty decent most times.
CY says
I was driving today when my cousin called demanding to know about somethng. since i was occupied,i passed the phone to my friend who was beside me.. and she answered my cousin’s query in a very diplomatic manner eventhough she was not required to.
then it hit me that wat the Sales Assistant at kanebo lacked was good customer service.
WHat she should have done was instead of denying that such a promotion exists, she should have said something along the lines of
“I will call Bridge Alliance to confirm this and get back to you” even if she was not actually going to.
I think they really need training. SA like these will drive customers away before they even arrive, esp. if the salon is a reputed brand.People expect better “service” jst because it is a good brand.
When customers query a merchant about a promotion, they may not necessarily utilize it. but what they want to know is taht the merchant will keep to their word (honour their promotion), and if they cant have the confidence of something being delivered, why would they even want to think of putting down their hard earned cash into the merchant’s pockets?
ParisB says
Hopefully someone from Kanebo sees this. Thanks.

Have anyone give yourself a try on this, Kanebo throat & bust lifting treatment? It is for breast massage.
Thanks.

hey have you tried bella skin care?
would love to read your review on that one.
thanks

Hi, do they do facials for guys?
i desperately need a facial and I am using their product and I totally love it. I would love to have a facial there
ParisB says
Yes they do. They did not used to be open to men unless they were friends of existing female customers (its a security and safety issue for female customers and staff) but you can call them and make an appointment. Then they’ll know to expect you. Hope you enjoy it.

hi paris, i’m a guy looking for a facial…. i have some pimples…i think it shud be ok to pamper ourselves once a month for a facial.
just wondering if they have any branches in PJ or subang area? it’s good tat they dun push for their products 🙂
i’m looking for a facial where they dun do extraction as in literally peeling off ur pimples but sort of a machine that they use to like i’m not sure wat they call it…alpha ray perhaps? that scans thru ur face and the dirt will come off. coz extraction really hurts and not sure if it leaves scars.
i cant seem to find their website…do they have one?
thanks heaps.
ParisB says
Hi Bob, Kanebo only has a few branches and none in Pj that I know of. A facial salon that practices no extractions is Clarins. Do look up the Clarins Institute at 1U or KLCC for more info. Hope this helps!
