Fashion Trend: Matchy Matchy

At one time, the fashion trend was NOT to match your bags to your clothes or to your shoes. Everyone abhored the concept of looking “matchy-matchy” so you have pictures from the past where you see people wearing a riot of colours.

However, I have always lived by the rule which I read about in a magazine once: Never wear more than 3 colours at any one time. This includes clothes, bags, accessories and shoes. More than 3 colours turns you into Harlequin and no girl needs to look like a clown.

This excerpt from Life & Style seems to tell us however that these days, the fashion trend is to match shoes and bags. Your clothes don’t necessarily need to match although Posh Spice aka Mrs. David Beckham does. Wearing the nude/neutral colour she’s wearing, it looks fine. But imagine that in red or pink and ouch! We’ll need sunglasses.

I unfortunately do not subscribe to matching bags and shoes simply because I don’t like changing my bags all the time to match my shoes. I also love colourful bags (I’m not afraid of colour, and I hardly own any black or brown bags!) but I don’t love colourful shoes as much so choice will be quite limited for me.

How about you? Do you do the matchy-matchy thing?

Nah, I find the matchy-matchy too boring and rigid. Of course, if the colours clash like a sore thumb, then it’s a no-no. I like to mix and match mine 😉

I agree with you matchy-matchy is boring. If someone suscribe to the notions of matchy matchy then they must be prepared to burn a hole in their pockets to have such an extensive wardrobe.
But a total clash of color like a green bag and pink stilletoes is certainly a no-no.Or maybe yellow and blue although this colors are prescribed in art class.
