Falling out of love with NARS Blushes

When I first heard about Nars Cosmetics, it was their blushes that attracted me. After all, I’m pretty much addicted to blushes!
I thought I had to have ALL the Nars blushes available. And I nearly did too until the money gave out and my interest waned.
Lately however, I’ve found myself falling out of love with Nars blushes. For some reason, I found that the blush colours, albeit very pigmented and therefore showing up prettily on the skin, were a little too garish for my taste. I even found myself turning more to Nars Orgasm lookalikes, rather than use the real thing. This was odd.
Part of the problem lies with the colours. The blush colours available are varied and very pigmented. So, it became a hassle to use them. I had to be so careful all the time when using Nars blushes and these days I don’t have the luxury of time in the mornings. There’s More! Continue reading →
Let’s find some Nars Orgasm Dupes!
I haven’t had official word of NARS coming to Malaysia yet, so we are still waiting. The most popular blush colour form NARS has to be Orgasm. It is truly a cult classic. Many people I know love it but I also know of many who don’t like it because they find it too shimmery or too pink.
NARS Orgasm is in fact a shimmery pink-peach shade. I say pink-peach because I think it applies on me looking more pink than peach. The peach tones are just enough to temper it so it doesn’t look too pink going on. The shade is rather medium-light so if you have fair-medium skin, I’d say it’ll show up. However, if you are tanned or have darker skintone, all you might get is shimmer. That said, I have never noticed Orgasm going on highly shimmery. For me, its just nice so I suppose its to do with your own level of comfort.
If you are on a budget or have no access to NARS Orgasm, which brand or blush colour is a NARS Orgasm dupe or lookalike? Here are a few I have compiled from my own collection.

Nars Cosmetics in Malaysia?

Are we going to see Nars Cosmetics in Malaysia soon?
A little bird (thanks Monstro!) tells me that Nars will be in Malaysia soon through Ken’s Apothecary. To be honest, my interest in Nars has waned due to inaccessibility and because other than Nars Blushes there isn’t much else I like from Nars.
It will be nice however, to see the brand in Malaysia finally even if I’m expecting very marked up prices. I wonder how much the blush will cost. It costs US$25 (RM80 at an exchange rate of 3.2) and I bought mine from Hong Kong for HKD190 (RM95 at the exchange rate then).
I’m expecting it to cost at least RM120. But we’ll see.
If you like Nars, keep a look out in June 2008. Details will follow as I get them ![]()
NARS Taos blush - bright and beautiful
I was reading the description of Nars Exhibit A blush on Beautyholics Anonymous and I was instantly reminded of Nars Taos which I own. Nars Taos blush is a bright brick red blush that looks really bright and red in the pan but when applied lightly, gives a beautiful flush to the skin.

I always have to be very careful when using Taos because one little mistake could lead to a day of clown cheeks. The brush I use is also instrumental in the application of this bright colored blush.
I now use a duo fibre brush to apply, also known as a “skunk brush” due to the white and black bristles. Brushes like these are useful for handling very pigmented colours because they don’t pick up a lot of color due to the alternating lengths of the bristles. My brush is from Flirt but there are many out there with one of the most popular being from MAC - MAC 187 brush. I haven’t checked it out myself but from pictures it looks fuller and I read that people love it for applying pigmented blushes and for foundations. There’s More! Continue reading →
