Lumiere Cosmetics Kabuki Brush – not just for mineral makeup

April 27, 2009 Paris B 28 Comments

I was using mineral makeup about a year ago. In that time, I ran the gamut of all sorts of brands of mineral foundation. However, for brushes I zeroed in straight on the Lumiere Kabuki brush, no second thoughts. I’d read so many good things about the kabuki I knew I’d have to order it.

This review is for the benefit of those who are still using mineral foundation and want a good kabuki brush that can buff in the foundation for a flawless finish. You need look no further than the Kabuki from Lumiere Cosmetics. For some strange reason its not available at their online store – perhaps they are restocking. Mine is the full size Kabuki which isn’t all that big as you can see above. Just a little shorter than a Dior lipstick.

The synthetic bristles are so wonderfully soft and pliable and its packed very densely – all the better to buff in the foundation. I found that because it was so dense it worked very well for applying a light layer of mineral foundation over your skin and for buffing. Your skin never gets scratched by the brush because its so soft! Do you see the recurring exclamations of “soft!”? Its because it is!

However I no longer use mineral makeup so my Lumiere Kabuki brush got placed by the wayside. Until recently when I was looking for my powder brush that had slipped behind my dresser – ew! At a bit of a loss, I decided to try using the Lumiere Kabuki brush.

Loving Minerals – Supplying Mineral Makeup in Malaysia

October 22, 2008 Paris B 19 Comments

Note: Loving Minerals is no longer in business

Mineral Makeup is all the rage. Just look at L’oreal and Revlon and even The Body Shop jumping on the Mineral Foundation bandwagon. When big companies start getting onto something, you know it’s a big market! I previously lamented that part of the reason I was less enamoured with mineral makeup was because of its inaccessibility. This is because many mineral makeup companies are USA based and shipping time plus the possibility of packages going missing (It happened to me) is a huge deterrant.

Loving Minerals Mineral Makeup Store

However, local online store LovingMinerals.com will change all that. LovingMinerals.com is based in Malaysia and they presently stock mineral makeup from Lumiere Mineral Cosmetics and some of the more popular kabuki brushes from Everyday Minerals.

From my previous experience, Lumiere Cosmetics’ Mineral makeup was the only brand that did not cause me to break out and which had the best colour match. Also, the Lumiere Mini Kabuki brush is a delight! They don’t stock this yet, but I hope they do. As for brushes, Everyday Minerals’ brushes get the thumbs up from many users, especially the flat top brush (RM38). No excuse for me not to try it now!

LovingMinerals.com has just opened its virtual doors last week, and they are offering some special offers on Lumiere Cosmetics products up until 31 October 2008. Even after this promotion period is over, you can still pick up great deals and specials under the Loving Specials category. If you are new to mineral makeup, a good kit to start with will be the Lumiere Sample Kit (RM30). You will get 3 sample jars of foundation, 1 sample jar of blush or radiance powder and 1 sample jar of finishing powder. My recommendation for the finishing powder is to get the Sand Silk Powder. It is super awesome at controlling oil. Whilst it might say “sample” it is a pretty substantial amount of powder that you get which will last you quite a while. It’s the best way to know if mineral makeup will work for you or not.

LovingMinerals.com currently ships to Malaysia and Singapore. I think it is awesome because shipping from the USA takes up to 2 weeks and I had a package go missing from Lumiere before. They refunded my money but the hassle and waiting time was not fun.Continue Reading

How to look good even when you had a bad night?

May 22, 2008 Paris B 14 Comments

So you had a bad night. You wake up in the morning and see dark rings under your bleary eyes, and blotchy skin. What do you do?

Well, here’s where makeup can help you.

The key here is to keep things natural. From personal experience, I’ve found that on days when I wake up looking and feeling terrible, light natural makeup is best.

The key items you’ll need are:-

  • Concealer
  • Foundation
  • Highlighter
  • A light or nude colored eyeshadow
  • Eyeliner
  • Mascara
  • Light peach or pink blush

And here’s how I put it all together.
