Navigate the lipstick jungle : 5 creamy lipsticks worth splurging on

May 23, 2016 Paris B 20 Comments

Lipstick, like blush and foundation, is a bit of a weakness of mine. I love checking out new formulations on offer, although I’ve learned since that I much prefer solid lipsticks, and I like certain textures better than others. It allows me to not make costly errors the way I used to before!

5 creamy lipsticks worth splurging on

When I started out using lipstick, I preferred the lighter, moisturising balm-textured lipsticks. I still like them, but these days, I find myself busting out the creamy, opaque textured ones more. They last longer on lips, they aren’t too glossy, but they aren’t flat and matte either. They are, in the words of Goldilocks, just right! 😀 I call them my adult lipsticks – good for adulting 😀

As many of you know, my tastes in makeup tend to run to the higher end brands, so after playing the field, here are 5 creamy lipsticks worth splurging on! 😀

The tough leather exterior of Givenchy Le Rouge hides a gentle and sweet Rose Boudoir

December 14, 2015 Paris B 6 Comments

I remember when the beauty world was agog with the leather-stud clad lipstick cases offered by Givenchy in their Le Rouge range of lipstick. People were raving about them, and the texture too, of course.  But for some reason, the hype seems to have died down in the past year or so, and that’s when I came on board. I’m a little perverse that way.

I picked up a tube sometime ago, because I admit, I was suckered in by the smooth, tactile feel of leather on the cover and the edgy design. Yep, that’s leather on the cover! Quite different from your regular lipstick, this one.

The leather clad cover of the Givenchy Le Rouge covers the whole tube of lipstick, and you extract the tube by gripping on the little metallic stud protrusions on the side, as you can see in the picture above. Fascinating packaging aside, I have to say that I was quite won over by the formula too… but not immediately!

Givenchy Dahlia Noir: Go deep and mysterious with the Eau de Parfum or light and floral with the Eau de Toilette

December 7, 2012 Paris B 24 Comments

Here’s a bit of trivia I picked up somewhere: Mother Nature never made anything black.

So that black cat or dog of yours isn’t black, its a very deep shade of blue or purple. Its also why we rarely see black flowers. Well unless its dead 😛 So when you are faced with a fragrance named Dahlia Noir, the first thought that went through my head was “I wonder where they found a black dahlia”.

Turns out they didn’t.

Dahlia Noir is a flower that does not exist, but is conceptualised at the House of Givenchy. Givenchy wanted a flower that represented them, and the flower chosen was the dahlia – structured, yet feminine and soft. Black to add an air of mystery.

Another interesting bit of trivia : The Dahlia flower has no scent.

So how does a Dahlia Noir smell then? Ah, that was up to the imaginations of the creators. Interestingly, Dahlia Noir smells of roses. Interestingly also, the EdP and EdT both smell totally different! They could even be different perfumes.

Givenchy Sari Collection and Juicy loves Sephora

January 30, 2009 Paris B 24 Comments

Givenchy is one of those big brands that I always overlook. I find their stuff pretty but never really pretty enough to like. Not this time! For Spring 2009, Givenchy is going for sensual dusky pink and orange for eyes, lips and cheeks with an Indian Sari inspired collection. I like the look on the model.

Givenchy Sari Collection Spring 2009

I’m more used to seeing  hot fuschia pink when an Indian inspired collection appears, but the Givenchy Iridescent Maharani Pink blush described as luminous rosy pink, is bright and light and looks so pretty! There is also Maharani Orange which is described as luminous golden peach that I suppose would look good on someone tanned. I’ve since learnt that anything too peach makes me look like a pumpkin! 😛
