Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate : An Elixir is what it is

August 5, 2010 Paris B 44 Comments

kiehl's midnight recovery concentrate review

There is so much hype about this new serum from Kiehl’s! Ever since its launch way back in February 2010, I’ve seen the wave get bigger and bigger. But I’m going to fuel the hype further by telling you that this is a great product. For me anyway.

The Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate is a night serum designed to help repair your skin as you sleep and deliver hydration and balance your skin with its key ingredients of squalene and evening primrose oil. Let me tell you though what my favourite part of this serum is – lavender oil.

The Midnight Recovery Concentrate is infused with the wonderfully relaxing scent of lavender. I started using this about 2 months ago during a rough time when quality sleep is a priority, and believe me, this helps! I’ll tell you how I use it for maximum benefits below.

But first the packaging. I love the deep blue glass bottle this elixir comes in. I love the dropper but I’m sorry Kiehl’s, your plastic cap does nothing for this product. It actually jars against the beautiful glass bottle for me. Also, I’m not sure if my bottle is faulty, but I find it hard to depress the squeeze top enough to pick up the serum. I dread to think what will happen once the liquid level drops and I can’t get the serum out – what then? Might a rubber squeeze top be better? One wonders.

Fortunately, you only need about 2 drops. But another thing I noticed is that the vacuum isn’t strong enough, so the dropper does not hold the serum properly so it will drip. Not that many people will be holding it out in the open, but I thought I’d mention it because it bugged me 😛

Now, are the directions to be believed? Do you really only need 2 drops of this powerful elixir to wake up to glowing skin?

Yes. Do not be like me and be sceptical and try to use more. 😛

Guest Reader Review: Skinz Infinite Skincare Line

July 29, 2010 Paris B 10 Comments

A while ago, I had reader Jess test some products from the Skinz Infinite Youth Recall skincare line. This is her story about how it fared for her.

As I reach my mid-twenties, I realised that my skin is not what it was and this fact is further established when I saw first signs of ageing one morning while putting on makeup: I have fine lines!

Though the indentations are not prominent and can be concealed behind wonders of makeup, I was feeling a little agitated and like all women, freaked out. So, one can imagine how delighted I was when I was given a chance to try out Skin Infinite’s new anti-ageing line, which is sold in major pharmacies and easily recognisable with lovely Charmaine Sheh as the cover girl.

Skin Infinite promises brighter, smoother skin in 4 weeks and lines being diminished as well as even up the skin tone.

Do they deliver?

The first thing I did when I saw these babies-open ‘em up and took a whiff. No complains here and I particularly love the somewhat floral scent that the cleanser has.

Skinz Infinite HydraClean cleanser

HydraClean Cleansing Cream

I think I fell in love with the product at first whiff! Love the scent, love that it lathers easily and I love the fact that it cleanses SO WELL. Once I had to rush for an outing after work and with no time for cleansing oil, I lather this baby up and started cleansing away. I expected mascara to stay put as it was waterproof and resigned to the fact that I have to double cleanse. But when I looked into the mirror, all traces of mascara are gone! I wiped on some toner onto my face and what do you know, no trace of makeup on the cotton! I was truly impressed.

It left my skin fresh, clean and maybe, just maybe, a little glow to my face.
It retails for RM 17.90 (thumbs up), will be cheaper when sales are around.

skinz infinite moisturizer

Youth Recall Day Moisturizer SPF20 PA++

Ok, this product is a love-hate thing for me. See, I love that it is a mattifying moisturiser, no strong plasticky smell that is often common in moisturisers and it absorbs fast. But I also hate the fact that the despite it being a mattifiying moisturiser, my face shines like a light bulb upon application and it doesn’t help in oil control.

While the packaging looks sleek, it is (for me) not so practical to tug around during travels. It is extremely bulky and imbalance with the lid being so heavy. The content is also packed to the brim so there is a certain amount of wastage of cream.

But the last straw came in Day 7 (I think)- I broke out like crazy. I have never ever broke out  like this before, even in my adolescent years. I stopped using the moisturiser altogether after that incident. Took me few days to clear up my skin and it has left me with few pimple scars. Not a pretty sight at all.

I have since gave it to my sister, who has dry skin and she too, broke out like mad. Needless to say, she didn’t talk to me for a week.  😛

Retails for RM 45.90

REN Skincare Keep Young and Beautiful SH2C Serum

July 15, 2010 Paris B 9 Comments

REN seems to shy away from the “anti-aging” tag most brands give to their serums. Instead they are calling theirs “Keep Young and Beautiful” which is a pretty name if rather lengthy.

Ren keep young and beautiful serum

This serum is new on the REN shelves but I’ve been trialing it for about a month now and my initial thoughts are that its certainly done something to firm the skin. I don’t have very saggy skin to start with, but I do notice that my skin feels firmer to the touch when I apply my skincare/makeup daily.

I can’t say much about the Keep Young factor which utilizes Sirtuin protein from rice just like another anti-aging moisturizer I’ve been using.  1 month isn’t a long enough time and most anti-aging products work to slow down aging anyway so its a long term thing. Oh and the SH2C formula? That’s the bio-actives for this serum – Sirtuin, Hexapeptide, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C.

Yes, very pretty, but how does it feel?!
