Bobbi Brown Palette System – create the ultimate makeup kit

October 5, 2007 Paris B 5 Comments

bobbipalette

I received an email about Bobbi Brown’s latest launch – the Palette system that allows you to create your ultimate makeup kit. I was busy so I did not read the details, but I remember thinking “How nice! It would be nice to mix and match my own eyeshadows from Bobbi Brown”

Today, I had a little time so I surfed on over to Bobbi Brown’s site to see what the Palette System was.

Oh dear, I felt a little cheated when I saw what “customizing” meant to the people at Bobbi Brown.

All Bobbi Brown really allows you to “customize” is which palette you choose to purchase. All the palettes are pre-made and none of the colours are interchangable. I had the impression I could actually make my own palettes.

So, I’m upset over the rather misleading advertising. Further, I don’t think the colours or palettes are very special anyway. They look pretty much like the usual Bobbi Brown palettes and there isn’t any colour that particularly grabs my attention. The little pink case with its brushes does make my heart beat a little faster though but I don’t know if it’ll beat fast enough to compel me to buy it hehe…

Each item is sold separately so I wish they didn’t call this a kit, like it all came in one set or something. It’ll be great for any girl starting out with makeup, or maybe if you lost all the makeup you’ve ever owned and need a quick fix. Otherwise, I think its just a gimmick. Sorry all BB fans!

Review: Makeup: Lunasol Intellectual Lips lipstick

July 10, 2007 Paris B 3 Comments

I previously wrote about Lunasol finally making it to our shores. It is found exclusively at the Kanebo counter in Isetan in Lot 10 for now. Anyway, as part of their launching promotion, they had 15 exclusive sets of eyeshadow quads and lipsticks going at a special price of RM180.

I was lucky enough to pick up a set at this special price and this is a review of the lipstick – Intellectual Lips lipstick.

Pictures 187

The lipstick comes in a square metal case. The metal is a brushed gold colour with the name Lunasol printed on the bottom part of the lipstick. When closed fully, it just looked like a little metal bar. Very elegant.

I got #10 – Pure Pink. The texture is nice. It is very smooth and feels weightless on your lips. There is no scent at all. Major plus in my book. The pigmentation is on the sheer side. #10 when swiped on the back of my hand looked like a dark rosy pink. On my lips it was a light pink with shimmer. It actually looked very natural and gave the impression that you weren’t slapping on the lipstick.
I usually can’t take pink on my lips but although this says “Pure Pink” its a rosier pink and is quite warm in tone which suits my colouring. I’d love to get more of these but the price tag is quite high at RM90 RM88 per lipstick. That’s the usual rate for most department store lipsticks though so if you are used to buying lipsticks from counters, then you probably won’t blink at the price.

If this was a stock and I was a remisier, I would call a buy on this lipstick. Absolutely worth it.

Pros: No scent, Sheer, Shimmery

Cons: Expensive

New Maybelline Water Shine Elixir Lipstick

June 23, 2007 Paris B 3 Comments

water_shine_elixir

Here’s something new from the Maybelline stable – Water Shine Elixir Lipstick. I saw it in Watsons yesterday, retailing for about RM29.80. It might be a promotional price for this is a new item.

I played around with the testers on display and got a pretty good idea of what the product is like.

Review: Makeup: Shiseido Integrate lipgloss

June 12, 2007 Paris B 2 Comments

My friend loved this lipgloss by Shiseido Integrate so much that she sent me this as a gift. Integrate is another brand under the Shiseido umbrella and its presently only available in Japan. Some stores in Hong Kong or Taiwan may stock some of the items or colours, but in the main, this is a Japan only brand. Pity really, as this looks like an interesting brand.

The Integrate Glamourous Rouge lipgloss comes in the shape of a pen with a clear body where you can see the colour of your gloss. However, the amount is very little. That bit of colour you see is about all you’ll get.

Pictures 130

Initially, I thought that it was similar to the Stila Lip Glazes, where there’s a brush as an applicator. However, when I opened up the cap, I was surprised to see that there was no brush at the end, but a silicone spatula. Very odd.

Pictures 131

You twist the bottom of the pen and the colour will ooze out the middle bit of the applicator. You then dab the colour on your lip and spread it out using the spatula. As its made of silicone, its pretty flexible. However, I found myself scraping off the colour rather than spreading it. That was until I pretended it was a butter knife and applied it that way. Then, I got it to spread nicely.

When you are done, just twist the bottom in the opposite direction and the excess colour will be sucked back into the tube so you don’t get a mess. Clever!

The colour looks scary in the pen, but when applied, its a cool sheer pink without much shimmer. Its not sticky and in fact, feels very comfortable on. Its not super shiny either. Just a nice sheer gloss with a tint of colour. The colour stays on quite long too, for a gloss. However, what puts me off a little, is the scent. When you apply the gloss, there is a sweet scent that lingers for a bit. I found it a tad cloying.

I’m not sure of the price, it being a gift, but I think Integrate ranks slightly below Maquillage, so I don’t expect it came cheap. In fact, they use Angelina Jolie as their spokes model. She can’t come cheap!

I’m not sure if or when this line will be released overseas. If you’d like to try it, there are some limited items from this brand in Adambeauty. I haven’t tried buying from them, so you are on your own there!

Pros: Long lasting for a gloss, sheer glossy colour, innovative design

Cons: Sweet scent, not much product
