Bronzer

Your Say: Do you contour and highlight regularly or daily?

May 27, 2014 Paris B 64 Comments

I don’t know about you, but I’ve noticed a marked increase in makeup looks on websites and blogs that showcase a chiselled, almost cover page look. I also realise that cheekbones seem to be quite in right now (hello Benedict Cumberbatch! 😀 ) I think they look great, in an editorial fashion, and I absolutely applaud their mad skills because I know mine are rudimentary at best.

do you highlight and contour daily

However, I did start thinking about whether you, the everyday woman (or man), do this whole highlight and contour thing on a regular or even daily basis? Do you aim for that chiselled sharply sculpted look for your everyday look? Do you keep an arsenal of bronzers, contouring powders and highlighters for this purpose?

Do share, because I for sure don’t! 😀

New! Marc Jacobs Beauty leaves its mark at Sephora Malaysia stores – A quick overview

April 25, 2014 Paris B 48 Comments

I first came across the Marc Jacobs Beauty line when the online community was buzzing about it some time last year. The first images that came out, I admit, didn’t grab me. There was a buzz of reviews when the line was new and then it sort of all quietened down, with preference falling back to the established, tried and true brands.

Knowing that most exciting new brands take forever and a day to reach our shores, I wasn’t paying a lot of attention until the local buzz started that Marc Jacobs Beauty was landing on our shores at Sephora stores. Now, how on earth?! We’re actually WITH IT! 😀

Marc Jacobs Style Eye-Con No. 3 RM137

As of last week, Marc Jacobs Beauty is now available at all Sephora stores nationwide. Marc Jacobs, if you didn’t already know is mostly known for his fashion and at one time was the designer over at Louis Vuitton. He was responsible for some of the more interesting and edgy designs to have come out of the luxury design house.

I used to be keen on the Marc Jacobs brand bag (being the bagaholic that I am) but they were all so heavy! He uses a lot of hardware in his designs and that spells weight. The Marc by Marc Jacobs line is more wearable and less weighty. So being quite familiar with his more flamboyant fashion designs, I was a little surprised at how sleek the MJ Beauty line was.

Here are some pictures of some of the products available, and some preliminary thoughts of a couple I’ve quickly tested in store.

Crazy Paris! I was immune until Guerlain’s Provocative & Crazy Meteorites crashed through my brittle Crazy Terracotta heart

December 4, 2013 Paris B 49 Comments

This year, I have not been taken by any of the Christmas collections from most brands. Every collection seemed to look the same and as is wont at this festive time of year, every collection gets that bling factor that can sometimes be far too much for daily wear. I was all ready to shut my wallet and call it a day till Fall/Autumn 2014 when my eye fell on Guerlain. And just like that, I tumbled head over heels for 3 items in the Guerlain Crazy Paris collection. Damn you Guerlain, you just know how to grab me!

I’d shown you the photos of the items when I picked them up so this is mostly just my thoughts on the items I bought, why I love them so, and why I think they are worth considering if your budget allows it to be stretched that far.

The primary item I planned to pick up was the Crazy Meteorites Radiance Power. You see, as much as I love the Meteorites loose perles, they are a right bitch to travel with. The packaging is bulky, the balls will disappear and it creates a right royal mess if they open up in your travel pouch. So, I’ve been lusting after the pressed version for the longest time.

However, the Meteorites Voyage weigh in at a staggering RM400+ and that’s just mind-boggling. I may be mad, but I have my limits and I will not pay over RM400 for a face powder. When I saw the Crazy Meteorites Radiance Powder, I thought that like the Wulong powder from last year, it too would stagger me at prices over RM400. So, imagine my surprise when it wasn’t!

I went a little crazy for the Guerlain Crazy Paris Christmas 2013 collection

November 8, 2013 Paris B 36 Comments

Mmmm words deepfried and dipped into ketchup are delicious! Anything deepfried is – I dare you to disagree!

Many of you may be familiar with my wee obsession with Guerlain’s Meteorites Perles. I have been collecting (and using) the last few limited edition ones that came out at Christmas. This year, I was looking forward to picking up the Champs Elysees Christmas balls when I saw the packaging and fell over myself running in the opposite direction. No matter my prejudices, ugly packaging turns me off, even if the contents appeal to me (Yes I find the Crazy Perles tin ugly – sue me). Fortunately also, I thought the Crazy Meteorites Perles looked rather like the Dragon pearls from last year so I’m safe! Anyway, I declared that Guerlain’s Christmas offering was persona non grata for me.

But when I went shopping for a friend, I *ahem* did cave for a couple of other items that I’d initially overlooked. Oops!

On the bright side, no other Christmas collection appealed to me, so wallet is now safe. On the even brighter side, I picked up a couple of items that I’d been eyeing for the longest time ever but was previously reluctant to shell out for.

The collection is only just available in stores here in Malaysia. I can show you pictures but no swatches nor full reviews because I need time to test it out and it’s not going to happen in the next week or so. Yet, I didn’t want you to miss out in case you were really eyeing something. So, here are pictures, quick thoughts and where to get them 🙂

It’s an unusual Chinese New Year this year. It’s the first time since I left home that I did not make an early morning drive home for CNY for the reunion dinner (I always do so to beat traffic). It’s the first time I’m spending CNY in KL. It’s the first time my hair is looking such a mess for CNY 😂
Regardless, we do this not for ourselves but for others so we can have more joyful CNY celebrations to come.
Wishing all of you a Happy, healthy Chinese New Year filled with Ox-picious tidings 🧧 Gong Xi Fa Cai and enjoy the festive break! ❤️
