My uber-comfortable, no break in required Sam Edelman Felicia Ballet flats

June 12, 2015 Paris B 24 Comments

Do you realise how HARD it is to get a pair of good-looking ballet flats that feel comfortable, allow you to walk for hours without pinching and above all, look cute? Well, yeah. Tell me about it! I’d been on the search for what seems like FOREVER!

But my search has ended! I’ve gotten a lot of enquiries about this pair of ballet flats, and every time I post a picture of them on IG, I get more. So, it’s time I actually blogged about them right? haha!

sam edelman felicia flats

These are my favourite pair of ballet flats and they are the Sam Edelman Felicia ballet flats. I first bought the black pair off Shopbop a year or so back, on a bit of a whim, without knowing anything about the brand or its shoes. Yes, I sometimes don’t do research – walk on the wild side y’know 😉

But my gamble paid off, for these are now my favourite pair of flats, ever! If you’re in the market for a pair of uber comfortable, soft as butter, cute as a button ballet flats, you could do worse than these 😀

These Felicia flats are very simple shoes, as you can see. The shoe is a buttery soft leather that moulds itself very prettily to your feet. Like the ballet shoes they are modelled after, it features an elastic bow (decorative) and there’s a little logo charm dangling from the front.

Unlike the Ferragamo Varina flats, the Sam Edelman Felicia flats are not structured shoes. They are meant to be soft and pliable. The top part seems a little elasticated, so it looks a bit crumpled around the top when they first arrive.

But slip them on and they look sleek on your feet without any hint of looking crumpled.

With these Felicia ballet flats, my advise is to size up half a size. I regularly take a Size 6 for most shoes and in these flats, I take a Size 6.5. How do I know my size? Well, this little guide I shared before may help. I haven’t gone wrong yet!

The inner sole of the shoes are lightly padded, so it’s comfortable when worn as your steps are cushioned. The sole is quite thin, again reminiscent of a ballet shoe so I’d warn against wearing these shoes on very rough surfaces. But there is a tiny little heel that makes it more comfortable to wear than a true flat.

But what if you get your size wrong? Well, I picked up my brown pair in my regular Size 6 by mistake, and while it feels a little snug, it’s not uncomfortable. I think it’s because the shoe itself is very soft so it moulds itself around your feet so a slight size difference is alright. But as you can see, my toes hit the end of the shoe, while in the black pair, there’s a tiny bit more wriggle room. I do wear my brown pair very often without feeling any pinch so I’d say it’s all good.

Oh and because the shoe is so comfortable and the leather so soft, there is no breaking-in time needed. I’m serious! You can wear these and go on a long walk and you’d return with sore legs, but with no blisters or bite. The shoes do not pinch one bit (not even the slightly smaller pair) and they seriously fit like a glove. Travelling with these are also easy because they’re soft and unstructured. I wouldn’t walk in them for hours, but I do wear them a lot if I’m out on weekends, or if I know it’s errand day and I’m out and about a lot. Or just when I’m tired of wearing heels. They’re cute with pants, jeans or skirts and dresses and I wear them with everything! 😀

I could go on waxing lyrical about these Felicia flats, but there’s only so much I can say about a pair of shoes. They aren’t the cheapest shoes in the market, but they aren’t luxury priced either. I get them from Shopbop whenever I see a sale happening and they are now priced at US$100 per pair for the plain ones. They come in different colours and designs with slightly varying prices.

I’d suggest you get them when Shopbop has a sale. I sometimes share sale info on my social media channels, so if you see me share news of a Shopbop sale (this is most applicable for those of us here in Malaysia) then jump on it and get a pair. I promise you, your feet will love you for it! 😀

Do you own any Felicia flats or any other Sam Edelman shoes? Do you have a pair of favourite ballet flats?

I’m quite curious now about the other Sam Edelman shoes but I don’t know how comfortable (or not) they are so if you know, please share your experience with me! Or you know, if you know of any other cute and comfy flats 😀

OH THEY ARE ADORABLE! Gotta put those onto my wishlist 🙂 My favourite ballet flats are really my Marc by Marc Jacobs mouse flats. It’s a little punky with studs and I adore them. Next will really be Varinas and they make me want one in every colour. I usually go for patent because they’re a little hardier than regular leather – I bash my shoes terribly. I remember stepping into mud accidentally in them (oops) but they wipe off easily the moment I got home.

Yes! And better yet, since we wear the same size in shoes, I’ve taken the guesswork out of the equation for you! LOL 😀 Ooh I remember your mouse flats – super cute! I have a thing for Varinas too but I’ve found out I can’t buy them in store here coz they bring in the wider versions while Shopbop carries the narrower version that suits my feet! I’m actually kinda eyeing one in calf leather but you’re right. The patent ones are much easier to care for.

one of the best i must say! mine is half a size bigger but the elastic band helps my feet to stay in the shoes instead of slipping. Wouldn’t mind picking another in darker color when it’s on sale again 😛

These flats look so cute and dare I say… work friendly even!! I’ve always had a problem with flats as they never seem to fit me properly. Am keeping a lookout for the next Shopbop sale, thank you very much for introducing this to us! =D

Oh yes, they are absolutely work friendly! I wear them to work anyway LOL I’m quite particular about my flats coz I don’t like how some of them splay wide open when you wear them, or how some give you toe cleavage if the curve is too narrow. Thankfully these are just right. Wait for sale time! 🙂

Super interested in getting this pair of flats but with the ringgit dropping it will cost more. Does customs check and charge duties for oonline shopping?

    Thanks

Yes, it’s very sad about the RM, but if you save up for it and wait till Shopbop does their 25% off sales it can still be worth it 🙂 Shopbop offers for customs charges to be included so I always take that option that adds 10% to the bill, but they clear the customs for you so there’s no fuss at all 🙂

I am so glad these flats come in sizes smaller than 5, but unfortunately Shopbop only has the smaller size for the nude colour, and not black. I really, really have to save up for these…very sad that the Ringgit is plummeting like crazy. Only online window shopping now *sobs*.Strange but true, I don\’t know what size I am exactly, only that it\’s smaller than a 5 lol! I need to measure my feet. Local brands tend to stock smaller sizes but they\’re not comfortable most of the time

The sizes come and go depending on the stock they have so if you’re keen, I’d just keep an eye on the site 🙂 During sale times, they run out quite quickly, but otherwise, they restock fairly often. I’m kinda eyeing a pair in red and nude but those go out of stock quite quickly! Oh and be careful if your Sz. 5 is a UK5 or US5. Their sizes come in US sizes so it’ll be most useful to know your size in US sizes 🙂

Ooooh I’m sorely sorely tempted now. I bought a pair of Ferragamo Varinas but I got the wrong size and they pinched my feet something fierce even after lots of ways of breaking them in. In the end, I gave them to my mum.
These days, the flats I wear either come from Rubi (cheapie stuff, surprisingly comfy) or Walnut Melbourne. I’m really keen on getting this but the thought of getting shoes online holds me back because I’m so fussy with my shoes. Sigh.

Ooh lucky mum! 😉 The good thing about these, is that they’re soft so even if you get it a bit wrong, it’s still ok. For me anyway. It was a half size difference. But in stiffer shoes it makes a world of a difference! I have such fussy feet that refuse to be put into anything cheap. So snobby right? but seriously, my feet just die so I suck it up and buy them better shoes, just fewer 😛

Oh yes, I got a pair on Sam Edelman ankle boots in a sale last year without having heard of the brand myself. Hey, the price was right and the boots were cute! I managed to purchase a pair a full size too large (?!) but once stuffed with sheepskin insoles (cold country survival tip) they fit alright and look lovely. I’ll keep an eye for their flats!

Ooh I’d eyed their other shoes for a while too, but wasn’t sure about their comfort. I have really fussy feet! But absolutely keep an eye out for SE flats. I seriously think they’re the best!

Thanks for the review…. I\’ve been a recent convert to flats after some 10+ years of tottering on heels. After a year long stint in a neighboring country necessitating flats for public commute, I\’ve found it hard to revert back to my beloved heels and have been living in flats or kitten heels ever since,Sam Edelman has been a brand much raved in blogs though this is the first I\’ve seen it reviewed in an Asian blog. I must say that your recent review has reignited my interest in it and I\’m much looking forward to the next Shopbop sale!!

The secret SW, is in finding the right pair of flats, and I can tell you that I’ve run that gamut! Sam Edelman wins hands down for comfort and cute factor 😀 You know, I couldn’t find a lot of info on Sam Edelman shoes or at least, on these Felicia flats in particular on many blogs! I think I’m either not following the right blogs or not searching in the right places haha! I’ll be sure to share info on the next Shopbop sale so you can all avail of a pair 😀

Hi Paris,I hope you are fien, my comment may sound a little be odd because I am young man that wear flats due an injury in the top of one of feet so am not able to wear really close shoes and I can\’ t wear flip flop and sandals all the time so flats were and are a practical option to protect my feet comfortably. My sister recommended to me the Sam Edelman Felicia flats and I love them, they feel like slippers and I never had blisters or sweaty feet with these beautiful flats. I have 7 pairs of these flats and I wear them at my job and on weekends. Really a good investment for my feet ! Other flats from Sam Edelman that I like are Beatrix flats , and Calypso Quilted Ballet Flat. I recommend the following brands because they look great and are comfortable : Vince Camuto Ellen, Frye Carson flats, Lacoste Marthe Ivy, Gianni Bernini Cillian flats, and Michael Kors Fulton . To save money I try them at the store then I bought them at second hand thrift stores at high end neigbourhoods , Poshmark, and eBay.Hope it helps you and congrats for your cute flats !

I just got a pair of these flats and they pinch. I’m wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Is it something that will go away the more I wear them?

Is it too small for you? I have a pair that’s a half size smaller, and it pinched a little on the heel area, but it’s since alright. I find it best to size up half a size.

I was looking for a comfortable pair of flats for what seemed like forever…. I owned several pairs of Sam Edelman heels and decided to give the flats a try. I bought my first pair of Felicia ballet flats in 2015 and I fell in love with them. I have since bought several more pairs in different colors (grey, mauve, purple rain, oatmeal, and a tropical pattern); they are my favorite go-to shoes now! Samedelman.com offers great sale prices, it pays off to check in often! <3

I have multiple pair and I love how soft they are. However, they don’t last long at all. The insole always comes out quickly because it sticks to your feel and is not secured well in the shoe and the bottom sole breaks down quick as well. Again, very soft and comfy, but don’t last long and in my opinion not worth $100.

Thanks for sharing Lori! Incidentally, more than 2 years later, my shoes are still holding up very well! No loosening of the insoles at all. I don’t wear them too often, which might be why I think?
