Help me decide: Rockport Shoes – Yay or Nay?

December 11, 2011 Paris B 53 Comments

Last week, I went into Isetan, hoping to see if my usual brand of shoes were on sale (I used to buy Easy Spirit) but for some reason, the Isetan at The Gardens doesn’t carry it anymore. I may be mistaken of course and they may have just moved. However, I happened to then stroll past the Rockport shoe store and decided to enter, on a whim.

rockport shoes

I’d never paid attention to Rockport shoes before this but I picked up a pair of pumps with heels of at least 4 inches and slipped them on for a lark. Oh boy! What a mistake that was 😛 They felt incredibly comfortable and did not feel like I was wearing super high heels at all!

I have stopped wearing too high heels because my back would ache but these shoes didn’t throw my back out at all when I tried them on. The heels are super high and really sexy but there’s a thick platform at the front to balance off the height so I could actually walk in them without falling over or throwing out my back too much.

rockport shoes

The shoe felt well made and I tried on a few other styles in heels which also felt comfortable on first try. There was sufficient padding in the sole, the curve of the sole was not too steep, and the arch seemed supported (important for a flat foot like me). The designs aren’t terribly exciting but they felt comfortable. The shoes are supposed to use something called adiprene technology by Adidas for cushioning and shock absorption (it sounds like a car doesn’t it? A shoe with shock absorbers!) which makes it more comfortable.

I didn’t get a pair just yet. I wanted to wait for a bit – comfort comes with a bit of a heftyish price tag (RM300+ to RM500+ depending on design) so I wanted to see if anyone wears Rockport shoes and what you think of them?

Does anyone own Rockport shoes? Do you recommend them and what do you like about them? Is there a particular style you find more comfortable than others? I saw that they do a good range of flats and walking shoes too. Do share your thoughts on these shoes eh? You’re my best resource 😀

Paris B

p/s Just found out Rockport shoes are available inside Isetan! Can’t wait to rack up those rebate points mwahahaha! 😉

Looks good! Get it. It is quite hard to get a nice comfortable pumps esp with 4inch heels. I am still looking for one with thick heels instead of thin ones. Any suggestion?

I’d suggest Marks and Spencer. I’ve gotten some pretty good shoes from them with thick-ish heels. Have fun! 🙂

Hi Cat Legeeque is right – M&S does some pretty decent shoes at decent prices but they aren’t very high. I don’t think very high shoes lend themselves to a thick heel. It’ll look chunky overall but if the heel was lower then thick heels can sometimes look better. Try Geox too or Clarks? I look to these for shoes 🙂

Love Rockport. You get better designs than the ones we get here. I popped by to see some yesterday and they were bordering tacky so I walked on. I’d get them. They’d pay off in the long run because they’d last longer. Cost/wear win!

It’s important to wear good comfortable shoes and quality bed. I find many splurge on skincare but abuse our feet and back! Rockport shoes are sooo comfy. My hubby used to have a pair he bought in Oz (not available here then) and he wore it every day to work until it finally broke after 2 years. Seriously. We searched for this brand high and low after we got home but after a few years here it is!! I also love mine. The padding keeps feet comfy even after wearing it the whole day. Some shoes are good in the beginning but start pinching after hours of wear but this doesn’t. In fact I’m thinking of getting it when I’m in KL. Mine looks worn. Pricier than Aussie price I think but Definitely worth the investment!!!

My husband just reminded me we got ours when they were 50% off. That’s why it seemed cheaper. Heh! Oops…

I have to agree with you! I’m very particular about my shoes and footwear so comfort is always top priority for me 🙂 Glad to know Rockport shoes get the thumbs up – its time to go splurge on a pair for the coming year 😀

If they’re comfortable and you’ll wear them often, get them! Better to splurge on a good pair of workhorse shoes than to pay medical bills later :P. No achey back for Paris, please! 😀

Gotta agree with you! Ever since I realised the achey back thing I’ve stuck to better shoes and it gives me less problems 🙂 I do hope the comfort I felt initially holds up to wear 😛

Oh man, you need to get them if you feel there’re comfortable!! So hard to find comfy shoes, let alone high-heels! I cant wear heels anymore–i’ll be so lucky now if I can find a pair of comfortable shoes, so I needn’t live in my FitFlops. I used to wear Easy Spirit too, but I cant seem to wear them anymore.

Haha on first try they did feel comfy. You just know when you slip your feet into a pair of shoes and it feels almost right, right? 🙂 I’m not sure how it’ll hold up after a while. Is there a reason you can’t wear heels anymore? Back or knee problems?

I own a pair of Rockport loafer & its very tahan lama – considering that I wear it to work (not in a clean office setting anyway) almost everyday, Monday-Friday, 9-5. It is machine washable & didn’t turn mushy, unlike other leather loafers (yikes!). Also, really comfortable that I will wear it to wet market sometimes – guilty of not resting the shoes!!! By the way, I like the Janae pump – looks simple yet very ***-kicking!

***out of topic***… i really need your help about this topic here – volumizing shampoos. I suggest u do some reviews on this topic especially the ones that easy for us to get it in our market here in malaysia – starting from the one that we can get it from drugstore/pharmacy to the expensive saloon product. thanks 🙂

Hi there, unfortunately volumizing is the least of my concerns as I have really puffy hair already LOL If I come across any I’ll be sure to share but I don’t buy these sorts of shampoo unfortunately.

Depends on the shoe I guess. I put up the price range I saw in the post RM300-500 and I haven’t tried custom made shoes – must cost a bomb?

I own a pair of Rockport slingback wedges and they really are quite comfy. I also like the idea of the same technology being used for sports shoes incorporated into work shoes, because being in heels the whole day is honestly as strenuous as a workout 😀 but I think your health should really be considered, because it might be in the shape/nature of the heel that is straining your back (?) I’m sure the adiprene insole would really help but better to be safe, if you’ll be getting these bring along a second pair of shoes with you just in case 🙂

Thanks for sharing Kari! Its great to know its a comfortable shoe. Shoes with too steep a gradient strain my back and are generally uncomfortable anyway. I’m not made to wear stilettos on the red carpet. I’d probably have to wear Fitflops 😛

Um sorry to rain on the parade but the quality used to be much better. I had a few Rockport shoes few years back and when i shopped for new obes recently the quality difference is so noticeable. They’re going the Hush Puppies route it seems. Previously they were all fully imported or sourced differently, cost more but made better imo.

I looked around and realised that Rockport was bought over by Adidas a few years ago. Perhaps they are more mass produced now? I do have to agree about Hush Puppies. They were excellent before, but now, not anymore. Same with Clarks too although the comfort level in Clarks shoes are still there at least 😛

I have a pair of rockport loafers. Bought them from RSH long time ago. Very comfortable. They’ve lasted for ages. The soles are removeable, so it’s easy to wash. And the whole shoe is washable as well.
I’ve wore them daily years ago, but stopped for a while.
After not wearing them for months, I was worried that the glue will harden and damage the shoes. But to my pleasant surprise, they are still good and comfortable.

I’ve never tried the heels before, I’ve seen it in shops, isn’t really impressed with the designs.

A friend bought a pair of Rockport shoes at at discount and was greatly impressed by its comfort (to the extent that she ran out and bought another spare pair) and recommended them to me. I bought a pair to and do agree that they are incredibly comfortable.

However, i have not worn rockport dress shoes before and I must say that shoes may feel great when we slip them on to try but it may be a different story wearing them for a whole day.

    Yes for Rockports!

I’ve not personally worn them before, but my sister owns a pair of their ballet flats, and it’s her most comfy pair of shoes. Do take note that she has a busted knee plus sweaty feel, so comfortable and shock absorbing shoes with non-slippery inner soles is a big thing for her.

I tried on the ballet flats too! Looks good on the feet 😀 I found them a little flat but I liked the flats that had a tiny bit of heel and wedge to it. Felt super comfy and if your sis finds them comfortable with her condition, then I’m sure it must be! 😀
