Body Oils I Like: DollyMoo Lavender Body Oil

October 5, 2011 Paris B 27 Comments

Last week I told you about my weakness for body oils and why I liked using body oils. I told you then that one of the body oils I’d been using is a lavender body oil by DollyMoo. DollyMoo is an online store based in the USA selling handmade and homemade body oils, salt scrubs and lipbalm from natural and organic sources.

dollymoo lavender oil review

I was contacted by Nicci, one of the two sister owners, and I picked the Lavender Body Oil to try, because I have a soft spot for lavender. Lavender essential oil has a lot of benefits, but if a product has too high a concentration of lavender oil, I am prone to contact dermatitis as I’ve discovered I may be allergic to lavender oil in high doses. So while I was all keen to dig right into the DollyMoo Lavender Body Oil, it was not without a little bit of reservation.

I am happy to report however, that I have had no allergic reaction to this Lavender Body Oil. Hurrah! 😀 The scent of lavender is very strong, but it is not the powdery scent of a lavender sachet that’s been left in the cupboard for too long. Its a fresh scent of lavender that immediately goes to work on your senses, relaxing your mind and body.

If you like the scent of lavender, you will like this. I love the scent of lavender so I do. The oil is quite light and it absorbs well into my skin without feeling oily or sticky. This is quite important because I keep this bottle on my bedside and apply my body oils before bed, and this one does not stain my sheets.

dollymoo lavender oil review ingredients

The oils used, based on the ingredient list are Grape seed oil, Golden Jojoba oil, Vitamin E and Lavender essential oil. Oh and Love. Altogether now “Aww…” Perhaps its the combination of oils, but I can assure you that the oils aren’t heavy nor thick in this body oil.

So in terms of the body oil, I have absolutely no issues whatsoever. It makes my skin feel soft after use, and the scent envelops me and helps me sleep more soundly or helps me sleep when I have sleeping problems. Its very very nice.

I do however, have a bit of gripe with the packaging. I’m fine with the glass bottle. In fact, I love it. The label is very well done, and the pump is quite good, because it does not drip. So I don’t have a problem with my bedside table having oil marks all over the place. I would however, prefer if the pump dispenser was a little smaller. This present dispenser is a little like that for dispensing body lotions or hand wash. The hole is quite large, so one pump of oil is really, too much.

What I do is depress the pump just part of the way, enough to get the oil into my hand. If I depress it all the way, I end up with too much oil to work with. Another problem is the tube for the pump dispenser.

dollymoo lavender oil review

The tube in mine did not go down all the way to the bottom of the bottle. It will take a while for me to use this bottle up, but I can forsee issues when I get to the bottom, because it’ll get harder, and perhaps even impossible to get the oil out, unless I open up the mouth of the bottle. So, I would prefer if DollyMoo extend their dispenser tube right to the bottom and use a smaller pump dispenser.

Did I mention I love the scent? Yes, I do. Very much indeed! 🙂 I used this for about 3 days on a dry spot on my knee where the skin was flaking, and it helped it recover. I haven’t had the dry spot return since.

In a nutshell

A light textured lavender scented body oil that absorbs quickly into the skin and does not leave the skin feeling oily and sticky. The scent of lavender is strong and fresh, and it does not smell powdery. My skin feels soft after use and the smell of lavender lingers on the skin and helps me relax and sleep better.

Pros: Light textured body oil, Lovely lavender scent, Nice looking labels and arrived very well packed

Cons: Glass bottles are heavy, Pump dispenser hole is a bit too large, Tube does not go all the way to the bottom of the bottle, Shipping from the USA overseas can be pricey

I mentioned that DollyMoo is an online store, and they are based in the USA. I asked Nicci of DollyMoo if they’d ship internationally, and she said that they’d have to think about it on a permanent basis, as their packaging is heavy. They package their oils and scrubs in glass bottles and jars for minimum reaction with plastic, and this can make shipping very expensive. Still, if you are keen on this or any of their other products, do drop them a line and see if they can ship internationally to you, wherever you are. If you have friends or family in the USA who might be coming for a visit, you could get a bottle shipped to them so they can bring it back for you (if they’re kind enough to 😛 )

I’d love to tell you that the pricey shipping would be worth it for a very lovely body oil, but I’d be lying. With international shipping tagged on, what it will be is an expensive but very lovely body oil. Which is why I’m balking a little at ordering the Vanilla Body Oil or Sandalwood Spice despite my curiousity. What I think would be fun is if they did smaller bottles, which might then be less costly to ship and we can then try a few different scents at one go 🙂

Are you a fan of lavender oil as I am? 🙂

DollyMoo Lavender Body Oil retails at US$20/8 oz at www.dollymoo.com. Please enquire directly with the store for international shipping costs. DollyMoo now ships internationally.

I see India again! In every photo! Hurrah! <3

I like your suggestion of smaller bottles in a variety of scents. Since I rarely finish up larger bottles of anything. 😛

She’s too cute not to include in a post of a body oil named DollyMoo! I just don’t have a cow LOL! I’m told they may do smaller bottles in future 4oz and I think I’d like that 😀

Yes they do oils too but the organic version ones a little too strong or too intense to my liking 🙁 Perhaps my nose is a little too sensitive 😛

I’m not overly fussy about organic or not so I’ll definitely take a look. Too strong scents aren’t too good either.

The moment I saw this, I wanted it…. only to find out that it’s nearly impossible to get it. Eeeeyer so irritating.

Their price looks quite affordable (excluding the shipping issue). Too bad that the shop doesn’t offer international shipping! I may give body oil a try now that autumn is approaching.

Sadly, although they will ship internationally, I’m afraid shipping costs are pricey 🙁 Still, I hope they do smaller sizes soon (I’m told they will) and then hopefully it might be cheaper to ship here 🙂

I LOVE lavender oil. I went for a walk today and hounded houses with lavender bushes 😛

I wish I can get hold of this easily. USD20 is not too much for good quality oil. The closest I can get to for this is burning lavender oil in my oil burner to lull me to sleep. It helps 🙂 Perhaps you can sway DollyMoo to package the oil differently and ship internationally? 🙂

If you can get hold of some light oils, you might actually be able to steep the lavender in them and make your own. Or maybe it doesn’t work that way? 😛 I have to agree. The price point is good. The shipping costs, not so pocket friendly 🙁 I’m told they may do smaller sizes soon but them being a small outfit, I’m not sure how much lower they can price shipping coz that’s getting pricey too coming out of the USA
