I love body oils : The case for body oils and why I love them

September 30, 2011 Paris B 66 Comments

A while ago, I mentioned in my comment replies about preferring body oils to body lotions. Reader melchewvin picked up on it and asked if body oils would be too oily here in Malaysia because of our humid tropical weather. I promised I’d talk about using body oils but what with one commitment and another, I couldn’t find the space. Well I’ve recently decided that while commitments are all well and fine, I want to write about stuff I like, when I like. And I like body oils 🙂

i love body oils

My pet tiger loves body oils too 🙂

I actually started with the REN Moroccan Rose Body Oil which is a very lovely, very lux rose scented body oil. I then went on to purchase the Marie Veronique Anti-Aging body oil with Rose and Neroli, and most recently, I was sent a Lavender Body Oil from DollyMoo. I’ll be reviewing these 3 body oils in the coming days/weeks so if you’d like to know my thoughts on each of the body oils I have, do remember to subscribe or just come back for more.

Today, I’d just like to plead my case for body oils, and why I like them and prefer oils to lotions.

Holy Schmoly! Is that really snail mucus in the Tony Moly Intense Repair Snail Cream?

September 29, 2011 Paris B 51 Comments

I came back from Seoul with a jar of the very popular snail cream – face cream made with snail mucus. Eww!! I can almost see all of you cringe 😀

tony moly intensive snail cream review

You know what? When I purchased it, I did not feel anything. I mean, I knew snails were involved and I read the brochure but I wasn’t super grossed out or anything. Heck, I’m Chinese. I probably have put stranger things in my mouth 😛 What I was really curious about, was whether it would help skin regenerate and erase lines and pigmentation and brighten the skin as promised.

The brand I purchased was the Tony Moly Intensive Snail Cream. Its not because it was the best nor was it because people love it. It was because I saw boxes of it flying off the shelves, and out of the bulk plastic bags, even before the sales assistants could stock the shelves! So I went over to look and ended up buying a tub that came with an eye cream.

People were buying this by the boxes! When I picked up just one, the cashier looked at me and asked (in Korean) if I was sure I only wanted one box. I understood, because she gestured at the rest of the boxes piled up on the counter. So, I didn’t buy the snail cream from Tony Moly because it was popular or very good or anything. I was just following my herd instinct. You might say it was an impulse purchase 😛

Let’s take a look at this Intense Live Snail Cream then, shall we? 🙂

Using the Bare Minimum to go Au Naturel with the Sleek Makeup Nude Collection

September 28, 2011 Paris B 39 Comments

You know how a popular makeup brand releases a new collection and the whole beauty blogging world goes gaga over it? You know how a new neutral coloured palette is released and every one and their sister goes “Oh! This is the new UD Naked palette!”

sleek makeup nude collection review

Welcome to the Sleek Makeup Nude Collection featuring the Au Naturel i-Divine eyeshadow palette, Suede Blush and Bare Minimum Pout Polish. This is the latest Sleek Makeup collection and the rave du jour around the interweb. The eyeshadow palette is already favourably compared to the UD Naked one – in fact, nearly every neutral toned palette is 😛

I’m going to stick my neck out here, ladies and tell you that whilst I’ve enjoyed using Sleek Makeup’s other palettes (Curacao, Oh so Special) and products (Pout Paints), this is quite possibly my least favourite collection. Oh yes, shoot me 😛

Now, hold the hate mail, let me tell you why.

Your Say: Do you find shopping therapeutic and do you impulse shop?

September 27, 2011 Paris B 64 Comments

shopping therapy

Apparently, a recent study has shown that Malaysians shop too much and are driving ourselves into bankruptcy with our shopping habits. Ouch! I think that’s a bit of a generalization because there are people who do shop like maniacs, buying this that or the other without thinking twice and driving themselves into bankruptcy, and there are people who shop smart. You just have to know your limits and I’m very sure most of you stopping by here do 🙂

The study also has shown that most people are abusing their credit cards by racking up big bills and then being unable to pay them off (a credit card is not free money ok, you do have to pay it back!) and that people shop because they find shopping therapeutic.

Now, I’m not about to say it isn’t. Sometimes, when you are really down or are really stressed to the gills, indulging in a bit of retail therapy does boost the adrenaline, and sends out the happy hormones. You could probably do the same with chocolate but that’ll just send it all straight to your thighs 😛 And shopping doesn’t have to be an expensive affair. The whole lipstick economy theory has been proven right over and over. When economies are down, people buy more lipstick because its an inexpensive pick me up (plus you also look better with lipstick on 😉 )

What say you then. Do you find shopping therapeutic and do you impulse shop?
