Ride a Moon Beam into Deep Space with the Too Faced Galaxy Glam Smokey Eyeshadows

May 27, 2011 Paris B 12 Comments

I just received these shadows in my latest StrawberryNet purchase and I just had to share almost immediately because they are still on sale now, and are in my view a very nice purchase 🙂 This is the first time I’m trying anything from Too Faced cosmetics (which is now available at Sephora Malaysia!)

I chose these because they are on sale and they looked interesting. You would too wouldn’t you? 🙂 They look far more interesting in real life than they do in the online photos which is of course a plus. I’ve got a couple of close ups and swatches below.

There are a few colours available but I went for 2 that I know I’d wear – Deep Space (navy blue) and Moon Beam (emerald green).

Don’t you think Deep Space looks like the Earth seen from space? It is a swirled together mix of navy blue, white and black pigments. Due to the texture and how it looks, I think each shadow would look quite different depending on the mix.

My Moon Beam shadow has more black than green or cream/white in it so it does swatch darker and more black. Still, if I just concentrate my brush on the green bits, the colour does pick up quite well.

Here are the swatches of both Moon Beam and Deep Space

Left: Moon Beam (black and mixed emerald green) Right: Deep Space (black and mixed navy blue)

If you use your fingers, I found that like many baked shadows, the colour on your finger is a beautiful smokey emerald green or navy blue, but when swatched, it doesn’t show up well. So I did about 3 layers to get the colour to show up nicely. For the eyes, I’d recommend that you use a dense brush. It picks up colour better and deposits it better too. I did not experience any fall out with these shadows, and they aren’t super shimmery. I found they blended quite easily on my lids too.

Here’s just a quick look done with Deep Space (eye only)

I used the dark/black parts of the shadow to line with my NARS Smudge brush, and I used my MAC #239 Shader brush to pick up colour from the swirled part of the shadow. I blended with a fluffy brush with a touch of white shadow from another palette.

The colour applies much better with a brush than with fingers, and I do like how versatile this eyeshadow is. It is almost like having a whole palette in one shadow. The only colour really lacking is a light shade, but if you just lightly dab a fluff brush on the lightest part of the shadow, and blend like crazy, you’d be able to pass muster.

Pros: Lovely pigments, Interesting eyeshadow, Versatile and perfect for smokey eye looks

Cons: Bulky packaging makes it a bit hard to store

The cover is domed and the eyeshadow is quite large so its not easy to store. But I could see me taking just this and a light shade for travelling, and being able to pull quite a few looks out of my hat 🙂

Might you have seen this or tried this before? I think the Too Faced Galaxy Glam Smokey Eyeshadows have been around for a while. I’m not sure if they are sold at Sephora Malaysia (the brand is, but I don’t know about this exact product) so if you have seen then and know the availability or price, please holler!

Yep yep! I like these very much indeedy! 😀

Too Faced Galaxy Glam Smokey Eyeshadow come in a variety of colours and retail at US$19.50 and are available on StrawberryNET.com where I got mine. Local availability and price unknown.

Thank you Lavender 🙂 I love navy blues. Grey is a very pretty colour. I’m sure you’d easily pull it off too
