Biotherm Aquasource Gel Moisturizer for Normal-Combination Skins : Just right!

February 14, 2011 Paris B 16 Comments

The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that skincare reviews usually make an appearance on a specific day of the week. But what’s life if without variety?! 😀 I’m working through quite a backlog so you’re going to have to put up with some disruption to the regular programme i.e. quite a few overdue skincare posts coming up.

This one’s a long overdue review on the Biotherm Aquasource Non Stop Oligo-Thermal Gel Intense Moisturization… which is basically the famed Biotherm Aquasource moisturizing gel. I had a bad reaction to the pink Aquasource Moisture Cream version before, which was for dry skins, and the blue Aquasource Oil Free lotion for oily skins.

This time, when the opportunity arose, despite being diagnosed as needing the blue line (for oily skins) I specifically refused it and went for the green tub – for normal/combination skins.

I felt a little like Goldilocks at this point – I’d tried the one that was too rich, the one that was not hydrating enough… and finally, here was one that was just right! 😀

The gel texture absorbed quickly into the skin with no sticky feel, and it kept my skin hydrated during the day. I used it mainly in the day as I go for lighter moisturizers in the day, so this was perfect. I find that when I apply the gel to my skin, my skin feels cool which was a little unexpected.

I experienced no breakouts and my skin felt nice while I was using it. I even slathered on a thicker layer some days to use as a mask or sleeping pack, and it was nice!

If I do have one complaint, it would be that it is a tad too fragranced for my liking. There is a sharp marine scent which might be a nod to the claim of 5,000 litres of spa water in a bottle. I now prefer creams that have no scent, or a light scent or that smell natural, like the scent of essential oils. The fragrance in this one was just a bit too heavy for my liking.

Pros: Skin felt hydrated all day, Not sticky or oily, Can be used as a sleeping mask

Cons: Fragrance is too strong, Glass jar can be unwieldy

Biotherm has always been all about the use of thermal plankton as a key ingredient in their skincare. This helps keep skin hydrated and it seems to work. At least in this gel moisturizer.

Its a decent gel moisturizer that does a decent job at hydrating the skin. Not too sticky, not to oily but just nice 😀

I’ve always found Biotherm to be too rich for my skin – tend to break out in pimples (which I don’t have) when I use their moisturizers. 🙁

Perhaps its the thermal plankton playing havoc with your skin? I broke out something awful with the pink one but this one’s alright, thank goodness! 🙂

This was wonderful for my skin at the beginning, but it started to break me out after awhile. This is how i found out that my skin hates denatured alcohol 🙁

Eeps! I guess I’m lucky that that doesn’t kill my skin but glad to know you worked out the culprit so you won’t kill your skin again 🙂

I was using Biotherm for a while before I decided to switch to La Roche Posay… It broke me out after a while… it’s such a shame cuz I really liked how light the moisturiser is.

This green one didn’t work on me – it made my skin flake out big time! But, the pink one worked wonderfully a long, long time ago! hehe…

I usually break out from gel creams, and the only one that worked for me was Dior HydrAction Sorbet. I haven’t tried this one yet.

Ooh I haven’t tried the Dior one, but I tried some samples from the Dior Hydraction range a while ago and it felt nice!

I should have tried this when I received the samples!! It’s been sitting in my cupboard for 2 years or so… I refrained from trying new stuff ever since I got breakouts… lol… goldilocks 🙂

My skin is combination skin and i find this works really well for me and my sister. No breakouts and it hydrates. I hate sticky sticky feeling and this one works perfectly fine.

I have combination skin and I used this moisturizer for years but I’ve recently switched to Shiseido after realizing it’s not moisturizing enough. My review here: http://jealousofmyskin.com/biotherm-aquasource/
