Just Trying: Essie Chin Chilly and Zoya Felicity Nail Polish

January 17, 2011 Paris B 18 Comments

I’ve worked out and resigned myself to the fact that I’m no good with my nails or nail polish. Nail polish lasts all of maybe 1 day before I inevitably chip it prying staples out of paper. Yes I know we aren’t supposed to do that but I do anyway 😛

Review Zoya Felicity and Essie Chin Chilly nail polish

Notwithstanding my aversion to nail polish, I was offered by Nail Fiesta to try a couple of more cult favourite brands that they carry in their online store. I’d read a lot about Essie and Zoya so I picked those to try, in safe colours. My definition of a “safe colour” is one I can apply without too much cussing as I go and so I settled for a very safe Felicity in Zoya and Chin Chilly in Essie.

review zoya felicity nail polish

I must say I rather like the Zoya Felicity nail polish. Its a very simple sweet pink with gold shimmer but I found the formula  a little thin and its not very glossy. The good thing about the thin formula is that this nail polish dodo managed to get quite a streak-free look. The picture shows 2 coats and you can still see the whites of my nail tips. I applied one more coat and it looks better so you’ll need about 3 coats. Still, its a very pretty shade for the nails and perfect for work and for me, because chips won’t show up so much! Hurrah! 😀

review essie chin chilly nail polish

Essie Chin Chilly on the other hand is a greyed brown taupe shade that looked much more neutral in the bottle than it did on my fingers. The formula is thicker in Essie and the picture shows 2 coats coat. I don’t know why this photo is showing just grey. Its actually got some warm brown tones too and the first photo on top is a better representation. Its already quite opaque with 1 coat but 2 coats gives it a lovely lacquered look. I however did not like this colour against my skin. I was hoping it might be warmer but its got a cool tone that did not agree with me. It however has a high gloss sheen I liked. This is what nail polish is all about – glossy nail tips 🙂

So if you like nail polish and want to get your hands on some cult favourite brands like Essie, Zoya, Nubar and China Glaze etc, check out Nail Fiesta, a dedicated nail polish retail site based right here in Malaysia. It came by Pos Ekspres and was well bubble wrapped. I’m not familiar with price of nail polish so I can’t comment on that score.

Have you tried either Zoya or Essie nail polishes? Do you have a favourite colour? 🙂

Paris B

On Nail Fiesta Zoya nail polishes retail at RM25 and Essie for RM29 at time of writing. Nail Fiesta accepts Paypal, credit cards and bank transfers. Pos Ekspres is RM4, Poslaju is RM8 and free shipping is available for purchases over RM150.

Felicity is such a pretty shade! I really should be less lazy and try to pretty up my nails. 😛

I think if you do use nail polish Nail Fiesta’s a good place to start getting the more uncommon brands. Plus I prefer shopping online to going into stores because some of these places that might stock such brands tend to have scary SAs 😛

I love that grey! The pink, not so much (shock horror!) cos I’m usually after unusual nail shades. Essies are so expensive here 🙁

well, i think the pink looks loverly on you! especially since i know it’ll match your great vichy aera-ed skin =( u’d look pale and polished and floaty. haha.

i will check out the site now!!

i actually bit my fingernail (sometimes so deep they’d bleed, eww) for 12 years of my life. mum tried everything, chilli oil, bitter nail polish blabla, i still found a way.

then when i reached 20, my friends all wanted to do manicures. so i waited for it to grow out, and went and did. lots of prayer to stop me from biting too.

and thank God, my nails did not grow out abnormally and i have really nice nails everyone compliments!! phew~!!

and as for favourite colors, i like hot neon colors, bright reds, anything super noticable!!

Good on ya for kicking the nail biting habit! I know its a hard one to kick and I do favour brights on my nails too… if I use nail polish. For me, its a case of “If I’m going to paint my nails, I might as well make sure everyone sees it!” 😛

haha… its very decadent though, going for a manicure or pedicure. I love it. I just don’t feel comfortable with the colour on my nails. Sigh…

Answer is no because I hardly apply nail polish. I may buy it, use it for a bit and then forget about it and when I get back its goopy and thick. So yeah I hardly ever buy nail polish whether cheap or expensive 🙂

I’ve a couple of Essie nail polish but haven’t tried Zoya yet. My favourite is China Glaze and OPI..
