Eyeko Cherry Fat Balm : Who are you calling Fat then?

December 27, 2010 Paris B 24 Comments

You have to love a product name like “Fat Balm” I did which was why I bought into it from Eyeko. The Fat Balm is a little stick of coloured balm that you can use on lips and cheeks. Its good for those slick on and go moments, when you have no time in the mornings to primp.

I purchased it in 2 colours but the one I’m showing you today is Cherry. Why did I go for Cherry? Because Eyeko said it would give me red lips, and you know how I love red lips! You know how you say “Oh I can’t wear red lipstick! I look awful!” You know what? Give the Eyeko Fat Balm in Cherry a go, if you can. It gives you a very lovely sheer red lip that will slowly ease you into the world of red lipsticks 😀

The Eyeko Fat Balm is just a tiny fat stick of balm. In the picture below you can see just how tiny it is when held in the palm of my hand. You can use it on your lips as a tinted lip balm or also swipe it on your cheeks as a cream blush.

As a lip balm, I find it lacking in moisturizing qualities. The texture is a little sticky and tacky which is good, in a way, because it then sticks to your skin longer than usual lip balms do. Cherry is a true red and it slicks on my lips very pigmented, yet without that heavy texture associated with lipstick.

Yup! This is pretty much the colour that you get in the actual tube. I like it, but if you are not into a bright lip, you might want to reconsider, bceause it is pigmented!

Does it work as a cream blush? Yes it does. But you have to be very VERY careful with Cherry. You can see from the swatch below that its quite a bright colour. “Quite” is an understatement isn’t it? 😉

The first time I used it, I made the mistake of swiping the colour straight onto my cheeks. I had to blend like crazy and then redo my foundation because it was just too bright. It looked like someone slapped me in the face 😛

So, the next time I attempted it, I got smart. I use my 3rd and 4th fingers and tap on the top of the balm and then pat onto my cheeks and blend. Repeat until you get your desired colour. Done that way, I get a lovely flush that lasts surprisingly long on my skin, especially if I have primer on.

I don’t quite like the scent. There is a cherry-ish sort of scent to the product that bugs me while its on my lips but it does dissipate. Oh and when the Cherry Fat Balm fades, it leaves behind a bit of a stain on the lips so you can then top up with clear lip balm or gloss.

As I noted above, I found the Fat Balm a little drying on my lips after a while. So I’d recommend that you apply it over a layer of lip balm if you are prone to dry lips. The grey plastic is a little cheap looking and doesn’t quite go with Eyeko’s “Pretty London” image. Well unless you do think that London is quite a grey place, weather wise 😛 But I don’t have much to complain about the quantity because its pigmented and you don’t use very much.

Oh and to apply on lips is a bit of a challenge because its a FAT BALM 😛 I get round it by applying it very carefully, but its not like a regular lip balm that you can swipe on without looking in the mirror.

Pros: Nicely pigmented, Small and portable, Affordable, Easy to use, Colours last on my lips and cheeks

Cons: Scent is a bit strong, On my lips it was a bit drying, Packaging is a bit flimsy, A bit too big to swipe on lips

Eyeko’s a cute little brand and I picked up quite a few items from them in my last order. They ship quickly and it arrived safely and they always have cute and tempting stuff on their website. Customer service is pretty good too. I had a problem with a discount code and when I addressed it on their Twitter, they were prompt to look into it and provide a refund.

If you plan to give this or any other products a shot, do share your order with friends so you get the free international shipping over US$55. They ship free within the UK and Europe anyway 😉

Have you tried the Eyeko Fat Balm or any products from Eyeko? I’ve not tried many but I’ve remedied that with my last haul 😉 Oh and apparently, the Eyeko Fat Balm has been compared to NARS Multiples. Now I’ve never tried NARS Multiples so I can’t say if they are similar but they sure look similar! 😉

Paris B

The Eyeko Fat Balm with SPF15 retails at US$10/£6 each or a set of 3 for US$21 at www.eyeko.com and it comes in 6 shades

Morning PB, wow, this looks great, I’ve tried one that’s very sheer pink in shade and it doesn’t work well on me, it ended up expiring and I threw it out already. This looks promising! I am one of those “I cant sport red lips!”

This looks very gorgeous on your cute lips (I’m still a girl , last time I checked lol)

Usually I’d say no, cream blush does not. But this isn’t quite cream. Its a blam texture so that makes it a little bit sticky and so it doesn’t slip and slide around at all.

I don’t really like Fat Balm, cuz it accentuated my pores (I had Strawberry then), so I gave it away. Btw, I just tried a bright red lipstick and I love it, because it is surprising sheer and just gives a nice tip of red. It’s the Shiseido The Make Up (STM) Automatic Lip Crayon in LC3, not sure if the counters still have it, since STM is being discontinued. But you should check it out. It’s v moisturising as well. 🙂

Eeks! So sorry to hear it didn’t work out for you 🙁 Thanks for the rec for the Shiseido lip crayon. I’ll go take a look the next time I’m near a counter 😀 Red + moisturising is such a winning combination! 😀

i really like the fat balm on my cheeks. it’s so natural and lovely. i didn’t find application difficult at all and i am quite a newbie with cream blushes. this was one gotten a positive tick from me and that’s certainly not easy. 😛

i think the colour on your lips also looks great. you wear deep colour really well.

merry christmas and happy new year to you!

Eyeko’s Big Eyes mascara is really popular and is always sold out! 🙁 it has a tiny brush that really works overtime, lashes get really separated and distinct. I like the light formula in the sense that it doesn’t weigh lashes down, but it’s definitely a ‘day’ mascara because it’s more black than voluminous. It used to be £5 I think, now it’s 8 quid …

Ahhh!!! I was looking for reviews online for the mascara but I had to take most of them with a grain of salt. Now I sorta regret not trying it out when I made my purchases. Boo! 🙁 Maybe next time then 😉 Thanks!!

HAHA Yes. Quite like that if you aren’t careful 😛 I love powder blushes too but cream has its advantages especially when travelling. You don’t need a separate brush! 😉

That looks like a gorgeous first step towards red lips (which I have a pathological fear of). Love the name!

i’m toting the strawberry one around, good for those ghost pale days 😀

on the cheeks i needed some time to blend it in since its quite tacky, n i quite agree with u PB, on the lips it is a little drying after sometime. but frequent touch-ups does the trick!

Agree with you that it takes a bit of blending on the cheeks. So I do the tap and blend method which seems to work better. The other colour I have is Frosting which smells of cake frosting – not sure if I like that very much LOL! Strawberry sounds like a pretty colour 😀

Ah! I got the Fat Balm when I purchased the Kiss Me Quick Gift Set! 😛

But have never gotten around to use it because.. i don’t know how to start! *shy2* everytime i take off the cap i’ll be like, “okay, how now?” and close it back LOL

Tried their graffitti eyeliner pen (snagged it during their buy 3 at the price of 2 promo) and i think it’s awesome cause i have super-oily lids. 😀

I got one of those sets too! 😀 I hope you’ve figured out now how best to use the Fat Balm 😀 Its really quite easy to swipe on and if you have a lighter colour, you can just swipe it straight on your skin and blend 🙂 I tried the purple graffiti pen but wasn’t impressed

Seems good enough. You know, I’ve never quite believed in reviews of Eyeko products because they were all done by ambassadors of the brand and I had a bad experience with Eyeko’s Big Eyes mascara. But now I’m a believer.^^

Anyway, I think it’s a bit expensive and too cumbersome to try. But it surely beats NARS’s Multiples’ price!

Personally I feel Eyeko’s products are a bit hit or miss. The Fat Balm is fun but some of the other items are a bit “cheap”. I think they just opened up distribution in Brazil. I saw it on their website.
