Bursting into the lipstick scene with Revlon ColorBurst Lipstick

May 14, 2010 Paris B 46 Comments

Revlon Colorburst Lipstick: Mauve, True Red, Blush

So, Revlon has a new lipstick and its all good! I’ve always had a soft spot for Revlon lipsticks. Their Superlustrous lipsticks were one of the first lipsticks I ever picked up and they were great for the price you pay! Now, they try to top that with Color Burst lipsticks.

Already getting rave reviews from all over the world, I must say that the raves are not misplaced. These Revlon Color Burst lippies are fab stuff!

The Color Burst lipsticks apply super smooth, are pigmented, don’t dry out my lips and the colour lasts. Its not shiny, but there is a bit of a gloss sheen. I like lipsticks like that 🙂

I also like the case. It looks more expensive than it really is and there is a slight rubbery feel so there’s good grip. The pattern on the case reminds me of the Dior Rouge case and the slight rubbery feel reminds me of NARS lipsticks packaging. On the lipstick is etched the name “Revlon” so you don’t forget 😛 That touch reminds me of Chanel!

Revlon Color Burst lipsticks

So, with the body of Dior and Nars and the almost-texture of Chanel, the Revlon Color Burst is what the result would be if Dior, Nars and Chanel mated and went budget 😛

I personally hated NARS lipsticks – I found them too drying but this Revlon one might give Chanel a bit of run for their money.

There will be 8 shades available in Malaysia as shown in the color swatch below. Which is your colour? I’m thinking of getting Peach next – it looks lovely and warm 😀

Revlon Color Burst Color Swatch

Pros: Affordable, Smooth and pigmented, Not drying, Longlasting, Glossy sheen

Cons: Cannot find any 😛

The colours I have are Mauve, True Red and Blush and I’ll show you each of the 3 lipsticks in a different post next week because I’m complicated like that 😛 So tell me which colour you want to see first and we’ll take it from there in descending order of comments 🙂

*high 5* I love Revlon lippies too! They are among the best available in our local drugstores and easily comparable to higher end lippies 😀

I got the one in Blush. Love the colour … but I’m not sure whether mine has a defect as after a few times using it the lipstick seems very soft and starts to lean towards the side thus causing the sides of my casing smeared with lipstick : (

Hmm… I do find the texture is a little bit soft but its more or less the same as my Superlustrous. I have been carrying mine around but so far no problems. Did you happen to leave it near a heat source? Or maybe the lippie is loose 🙁

I wanna see a swatch and pic of your lips with Blush! It looks so different in the top pic from the computer generated swatches… Mauve looks pretty too… but I know you’ll be wanting to show True Red first! 😛

Bought soft nude. Didn’t really work on me. And for some reason, I find that Revlon’s lipsticks and glosses are towards the dry side. =(

Aww… I did realize that the Renewist lipstick tended to be dry but these ColorBurst ones are really smooth and moisturizing. Sorry it didn’t work for you but at least it wasn’t an expensive mistake 😉

OMG!!! what a coincidence! I just swatched a bunch of these but my battery’s dead. they have been out here for 2 weeks or so. i didn’t know these are also out in malaysia already. great! they are gorgeous and very moisturising too. many many many colours to choose from. i love them!

red isn’t my colour but if anyone likes red and darker wine shades, this is the line to go as there are many to choose from. 🙂

Wow! This might actually start making me use lipsticks now! Gloss doesn’t really have much staying power, so I think I’ll give this a try next! Thanks for the review.

Please try out Blush! I love a nude color and I’m a little fearful of reds hehe.

Well thats the reason I don’t use gloss unless its very pigmented gloss. I’m all about bright lips! 😀 I will be doing blush first so watch out for that 🙂

Do a review of True Red first please! I covet super true red lips but am afraid it won’t go with my skin, undertones and in the end just skip it. I heard that asian skin needs a blue-ish tint to the red if i’m correct.

I’m eyeing the Peach as well but these lipsticks seem to be flying off the shelves at Watson’s. Guardian is overpricing them at $36 or $39 even though they have the “Introductory Price $33” banner on the shelf and I simply won’t buy them based on principle.

OMG Guardian doesn’t sell them at promo price? How can? 😛 I’ll go look at the next guardian I go to and ask them about it. I can wear most red lipsticks – warm or cool. Whether warm or cool tones suit you depends on whether you look better in warm or cool shades in general. If you are very warm toned, a cool red won’t look good. That said, True Red is very red. Not very cool but not too warm either. I like it, but then I’m a red lipped gal 🙂

Oh yes, it is about that price range in Singapore too. Which is why I’m holding on and not buying it now. I know the reviews have been excellent, but the price for now…*shakes head*

Sad to say (perhaps) I succumbed and picked up True Red on Friday! I love the color but it is a very strong color. It goes on so very smooth though and is not drying like previous Revlon lipsticks I’ve tried a couple of years ago.

They were totally out of Peach, the color I had my eye on so now the hunt is on! Blush is looking pretty good too but I picked up a Revlon lipstick “Blushed” when Guardian had that $18.99 sale last month and it looks similar.

well most unfortunately, i have pouty yet discoloured lips. my top lip is a weird browny pink color, and my btm lip is super pale. and so i shud use lipcolor right? wrong. my lips are actually a perfect pout, with defined cupid’s bow n all, but they dont suit my face! when i put lipstick it looks like, and shall i quote Memoirs of a Geisha “two big slices of tuna”.

even when i put gloss i only put on my btm lip, and i dont smack my lips together cause as i said, my top lip is a perfect cupid’s bow, so if i smack my lips together i get only a half circle on my top lip which looks weird. help!!!

worse, my lips are quite dry. and liney. ARGH!

so i only buy lippies for me mum. and thats where i realized, i’m a total cosmetics snob! i’ll only buy super branded ones, just bought a Rouge G, a Lancome L’Absolu and a Dior Addict High Shine for her…i just cant wrap my head around Revlon. =(

How about a tinted lipbalm? Its light, it helps with dry lips and lines 🙂 Or a neutral or nude shade of lipstick? I love Rouge G! Your lucky mom!

because of this post I ran out and got me a Peach! yesterday. truth to tell, the other colours didn’t look too good on me in the store lighting. even mauve which i had high hopes for just didn’t work for me. I’m looking forward to trying Peach solo and mixing it with other lipsticks in my collection. thinking of getting Blush next. oh btw Guardian’s having a sale and Colourburst retails for around rm32.65 until 05/31/10.
