I’m no fashionista (never have never will be) and I’m running dry on fashion issues. Someone told me that “women stuff’ should include fashion. That would be ideal but heck! If I can’t even look pulled together all the time, how can I expect to tell anyone else how to do so right? I think I’ll stick to beauty stuff 😀
But here’s 2 things I picked up recently fashion-wise that I thought might help everyone 🙂
Tip #1 : Belt up your loose dresses and get a brand new dress!
I have this lovely navy blue shift dress that I bought back when I was larger. Its a little dressy and resembles a cheongsam but isn’t. I liked it but recently, I took it out to wear and found it hanging loose on me. I looked frumpy. Awful!
On a whim, I picked up one of my waist cincher belts and slipped it around my waist. Voila! It worked a treat. I now have a “new” dress 🙂 I’ve since done the same to a couple more old shift dresses (works best with shift dresses) and shirts.
Tip #2 : Add cleavage or transform your bra to a racerback bra
Ok this one needs a little gadget. A paperclip will not work. A clothes peg might but it’ll look unsightly 😛 Here’s the gadget in question – a simple plastic piece called the Cleavage Control Clip.
Hook your bra straps around it and what this little thing will do is to pull your bra in and up so your boobs sit up more and thus gives the appearance of a cleavage. It works to a degree. If you are more well endowed then you will likely have a more dramatic effect in the cleavage department. Will it help you go up a bra size as it claims? Not for me as I am not well endowed to start with so what it gives me is a perkier silhouette. In any event, bra cup size depends on what you have to put IN it not how you pull it about 😛
What I like this for also is to hold my bra straps so they don’t fall down (happens sometimes even if the bra fits) or when I wear a racer back tank top. I don’t enjoy wearing a strapless bra for long hours and I don’t have a convertible bra yet. So this gadget helps.
I don’t recommend you use it with your expensive bras – all that stretching of the bra strap can spoil the elastic. But otherwise, it works. Get your Cleavage Control Clip from supermodel-secrets.blogspot.com for RM12/pack of 3 (free shipping by Pos Ekspres in Malaysia) or just click here for more details. They also sell Bumpits which add volume to hair but that did not work for me.
That’s it. 2 simple fashion tips from the non fashionista 😀
How about you share some simple fashion tips with us? You probably have better ideas than I do! 😉

p/s I know you are wondering what’s the deal about Picture #1 above taken with Connie. Story will come soon 🙂

Ooo I was there for the fashion show! Too bad I didn’t spot you or Connie or I would have said hi. =/
ParisB says
Aiya! Too many people perhaps 🙂 Next time then
Connie says
and you probably wouldn’t wanna see us frantically chasing after the waiters with the food trays!
electronicfly says
@Connie: HAHA I would have been chasing them too, if I could get to that area. =/ I had to do some shopping so by the time I could pause and take a look there was already loads of ppl around. =(

Wah la, the pose in pic 1 is very vogue ala Hollywood…u know the whole sexy back story..hehe. But I agree about the belt thing..i managed to ‘transform’ items and took it up a notch 🙂
ParisB says
Haha… it was unintentional I assure you. I thought someone was going to jump me 😛 But I love rediscovering old clothes that were too big and now fit thanks to a belt! 😀
Hanny says
I love waist cinchers! hehhehheh. They instantly transform a look, adding definition to the waistline (which I do not have at all). And, God knows I need a cleavage… T.T Thanks for the tips!
ParisB says
Hehe tell me about wanting a cleavage!

1. I turn my silk scarfs into headbands and belts. Cost/use 🙂
2. I have this double strand of pearls which are long – I wrap them around a couple of times and hey! Pearl choker!
3. I wear patterned tights to take the “frump” out of black pumps.
4. But like the tights that would work in temperate climates – I have a collection of hats and knitted scarfs and gloves to change outfits. My current knitting obssession is hats so both the guys and girls benefit from that 🙂
I love that belt btw, where’d you get it from?
ParisB says
Belt was a cheapy pick up from Bangkok. I love your tips! I wish I could wear tights here (I have but I get stared at nonetheless) because they truly change an outfit (and I get to wear short skirts without raising eyebrows 😉 )
Connie says
I love the look of tights especially because I feel too old to be running around in mini-skirts like a perky teenager. But the stares! *groans*
blue says
People stare at tights here? Is it because of the hot weather?
Since discovering tights last year I don’t think I can go back to wearing short skirts by themselves…feels too exposed lol. But I can only stand wearing them in colder weather.
ParisB says
Yeah people think you nuts if you wear tights in our heat. What they don’t realize is that some offices can be like the tundra!
geekchic says
Connie, YOU? TOO OLD?! Gosh. You make me feel ancient ><
If wearing patterned/textured tights is too warm for the tropics, I think you can try wearing patterned/textured stockings. There are some that are sheer (maybe 10-15 denier) and are dotted with tiny prints. I love those on spring days when it's a little warmer. 🙂

Looks like Malaysians are still so ulu even in KL eh? LOL
I’ve seen the young girls wear tights in really cute ways in China. And yes, with really short skirts but it’s definitely a look even this old Mum would allow her girl out of the house in. Let’s see if I can find those photos ya?
You look great in your cincher belt, Paris! I’m still battling the jelly belly so no belts for now. And, err…the cups runneth over too 😉
ParisB says
Thanks Kitty and yes people here do stare if you wear tights (less so but you get the stares) But then maybe it was because I was wearing tights at a yong tau foo stall 😀
ParisB says
Somehow I can’t wear stockings with patterns. I feel odd. But I can happily do patterned tights (and I do) 🙂
monstro says
You look very nice in that belted dress!
Now…if only my belts were up to date….
ParisB says
Thank you Monstro! 😀 You’d be a yummy mummy too in a nicely belted dress 😉

Re: Tip #2
A safety pin works too… though I looped it through the rings that were in that particular bra’s straps and not through the strap itself.
ParisB says
Thanks for the tip! I just have to hope I don’t poke myself 😉
joany says
i like tip #2… especially useful for small boobs girl like me…lol
the belt looks nice on u 🙂
ParisB says
Thank you 🙂

I won a box of Bumpits in the US but it felt a bit stiff to me too!
I’m also on the belting spree!
ParisB says
Yay for belts! I now have some new outfits – thank goodness 😉 I couldn’t get the Bumpits to stay on my head and to work – maybe its my hairstyle
KittyCat says
Hahahahahaha I think you just gave the yong tau foo man the fantasy of his life! 😉
