Hello girlies!
Are you happy its Friday? I sure am even if I’m not in the country at the moment! 🙂
I’m handing the reins over to you to help a reader. This week we have a question from reader Joan, left in a comment on the L’Oreal gel liner:-
I do have oily lids so just wonder which eye liner is suitable for me to use. Could you pls advise?
Well since I don’t have oily lids I don’t have a problem with eyeliner staying on my lids, whether the pencil, liquid or gel sort.
From a personal point of view, I’ve found that some types of eyeliners stay on my lids better than others. However, I only ever line my upper lid – I’ve tried lining my lower lid but its mostly failure all the way. Besides I don’t think it enhances my eyes all that much 🙂
So the eyeliners I use in order of preference are:-
- Gel liners – I started with Bobbi Brown and my personal faves are Maybelline and L’Oreal gel liners. They tend to stay on longer compared to others I find.
- Pencil liners – I’ve used a few but a personal preference is Guerlain Kohl pencil. It does smudge on me sometimes these days, or transfer a little to my lower lid, but nothing that can’t be easily wiped away. Doesn’t leave me looking like a panda so that’s good.
- Liquid liners – These don’t smudge on me but I don’t like them as much because of the difficulty in applying. Its always a personal preference.
However, as I have noted time and again, I don’t have very oily lids. The only smudgies I get usually come from pencil liners but even then its nothing dramatic.
One way to help liner stay on the lids, or eyeshadow in general is to seal it with something like Make Up For Ever Eye Seal. It makes color budge proof! Awesomeness in a little bottle.
Now, over to you oily lid gals – do lets help Joan out:-
What eyeliners do you recommend for those with oily lids?
Stay beautiful,
Paris B

I have oily lids too, and I’m using the gel liner from Kate. But for me, it still smudges a few hours or so. To prevent it from getting too bad, I always draw the gel liner first before using any eye shadow or loose powder (if it’s non make up day) to top on it. It helps a lot.

my sis has this really oily lids, and thus could not use normal pencil or liquid liners, they smudge on her lids almost immediately! hehe..
so, recently, after I tried Maybelline’s gel liner, i asked her to give it a try.
So she did, and true to Maybelline’s claim (that it’s waterproof n all), the gel liner on her super oily lids stayed without smudging!
We nv tried Loreal’s gel liner yet, so can’t comment on that.
But I am seriously loving the Maybelline’s gel liner to bits now! The brush that comes with it is great too!

i have oily lids as well and found the best deal ever from trial and error… found out when i was out of eyeliner. i use bobbi brown’s eye shadow – i wet the eyeliner brush with water, wipe off the excess water with tissue and swipe the brush onto the eyeshadow. the colour stays on like glue (well, almost! haha…). i even line the under eyelids sometimes and it doesn’t smudge as bad as the pencil liners. i say this is an excellent value for money.
Joan says
Hi Juan
I nvr try Bobbi Brown’s eyeshadow but I did tried their gel liner but still smudge.
juan says
Hi Joan,
seriously? oh, i tried their gel liner but didn’t like it because it dries out too quickly and it is so difficult to remove. still have a jar that’s hardly been used 🙂 so many people tell me the same thing – that the gel liner needs a heavy duty cleanser to remove it and it is so strange that it smudges on you. oh well, i guess what works for one may not work the same for another then, eh?

ive tried maybelline’s gel liners, revlon’s automatic pencil liner, bourjois pencil liner and some others, all smudged on me without fail.
so far, im loving MUFE’s eye seal mixed with eyeshadow and kate’s super sharp. these 2 hardly smudge on me, maybe just very minimal after 8 hrs or so.

I have incredibly oily lids. I find the eyeliners which work for me are gel liners, especially L’oreal HIP ones. Pencil liners don’t work that well, as they smudge at the end of the day, creating unsightly half-moons on my crease. Also, it helps a lot with a good base on. Personally, I’m a fan of Too Faced Shadow Insurance, which has a matte texture (not as runny as most liquid/cream-based eyeshadow bases out there), and keeps the sebum at bay.

hey PB n Joan..! (sounds like PBnJ) 😀
I always always use an eyelid primer before anything touches the lid. I actually like all 3 liners:pencil, gel and liquid BUT made dang sure that I ‘lock’ em by applying a layer of eyeshadow, i.e black e/s on top of my lined lids. Keeps em on longer 🙂
Joan says
Jessica
Whr can I get eyelid premier? What brand? Thanks 😉

i have oily skin too..
i’m using Kate super sharp liner (liquid liner) and it’s quite good 😀
but it does smudge after about 5 hours i think, just a little smudge, not really obvious..
so Joan, maybe you can try this 😀
*it’s affordable too! i think the price is around RM29 like that..
but the brown color will be quite light ( also natural )

i have oily lids too!
what i do is find one liner than is very intense and smooth to glide on.
add on Eyeliner Coat from Daiso to make them smudge proof 🙂
Orange says
so the eyeliner coat works great? 🙂
is it a liquid or what?
quite curious 😛

Majorlica Majorca’s liquid liner does not smudge at all on my lids! Even after group activities and SWIMMING (had it on from 7am until 8pm). It stays on forever until you remove it. As you remove it, it comes out in flakes, not smeared like gel liners. Even Bobbi Brown gel liner smudges on me if I laugh too much lol.

Kristin
Yes, Bobbi Brown’s tel liner did smudges & I look like panda.
I’ll try Majolica as am fans to Majolica as well just not sure is it hard to apply as nvr use liquid before.

I like Maybelline’s gel liner too. But I like Revlon colorstay one-stoke defining liner more. It’s a pencil. Very Convenient to use, long lasting and is also the blackest black color I want.

hi,
i have oily lids too.. on days tht i apply eyeliner.. i pat on some of my face powder first on the eyes close to the eyelashes or you could use a make up base… only then i use eyeliner.. ive tried many eyeliners.. and i find the best liner tht works for me is MAC’s Technakhol auto pencil liner. It costs around RM62 .. but its so worth it.. and it very very dark and easy to glide. i’ve had my technakhol on for 11 hours today with just some powder under, and its still smudge free.. i even had a 3 hour nap inbetween =) . theres another one from MAC thts called Powerpoint. its a pencil tht needs sharpening tho.
another eyeliner tht i like is Prestige.. but u cant get it here. got it from australia. paid bout AUD 13 for it.
you have to keep trying till u find the perfect one.. ive tried bobbi brown’s gel liner too.. and tho it has fantastic staying power i have yet to master the art of using it.
another eyeliner tht i have heard good things about is the revlon waterproof liner. but i cant vouch for it cause ive not tried it. ive only tested it on my hand…and it stayed on the entire day.

hey there. I have oily lids too and I used to try lots of waterproof liquid eyeliners but to no avail they still smudged. There was once where I tested the eyeliner on the back of my palm, tried rubbing it with running water and it didn’t smudge! But sadly after I bought it and used it on my eyelids, it smudged within an hour. I suppose waterproof eyeliners ain’t oil-proof eyeliners so it may not work the same.
So I made it a point to try the eyeliner on my eyelids next time, and see if they could last. Fortunately I found one that really could! It’s the Lancome Artliner, it doesn’t smudge at all and it’s not waterproof either! It’s slightly pricey though, costs about RM90+ for one but it works amazingly well on me. Maybe you can try that =)
By the way, I’ve tried gel eyeliners, putting powder on top of the eyeliner kinda tips but nothing worked before.

i have bobbi brown gel liner but it still kinda smudge on me…..do u mean that maybelline and loreal is better than bobbi brown ? or just as good?
Amanda says
I have oily eyelids, using an eye shadow primer makes a big difference. I never put on any eyeliners or eyeshadows without my Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Most of my eyeliners are waterproof – Aqua Eyes from Make Up For Ever are the best waterproof eyeliners I’ve ever used and it lasts all day. They never creased on me. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencils are my other favourite. They do crease (just a little bit) after a long day. MAC Fluidline is another great product for oily lids.

Hi all
I’ve always used Cyber Colors Long Lasting Gel Eyeliner. Never smudged even though I work under the hot sun every single day. I use Clinique’s Take The Day Off makeup remover and it can remove every trace of makeup, even my eyeliner. Do give the eyeliner a try. I think it is even better than the Maybelline one because when I used the Maybelline gel eyeliner, my lower lid was horribly smudged. The Cyber Colors Long Lasting Gel Eyeliner is available in all SaSa stores for about RM30, sorry I forgot the price.
