Return of the Pixie Haircut?

August 7, 2008 Paris B 17 Comments

Remember when Demi Moore elevated short hair to cult statusin the movie Ghost? I was in school then and I remember a friend who went out the next day and had her hair cut short in the “Demi Moore style”.

I like having short hair, so I was keen to try it too. However, it did not suit me face shape so I opted out of it after much persasion.

Then, it was the Winona Ryder elfin look with short hair and big eyes. Again, everyone went a little nuts chopping off their locks but I think the Winona Ryder look did not catch on as much.

Now, Katie Holmes (Mrs. Tom Cruise) has chopped off HER locks and somehow, I want to do it too! I love having short hair but I don’t have the facial structure to carry it off.

I wonder though if its just a hot summer or if its the beginning of another short hair trend? What say you? Would you sport the pixie haircut?

I’ve been meaning to try that hairstyle for awhile now… it’s just that I’m not sure if my face can pull it off. 😛

yeah, demi moore’s short hair in Ghost back then was really hot. A close fren of mine cut her hair short like demi’s and even I gave it a shot. Somehow, found that it suited my fren more. My hair is more on the coarse side so it didn’t have the kind of softness. i love short hair and have tried numerous times, but it wasn’t easy looking for a good stylist to cut. Found 1 later on but his charges are sky high.

Yes, of course! 🙂 I had my hair cut a couple of months ago in the style of Katie Holme/s chic bob (which she was sporting before she cut her hair even shorter this time) – have never looked back since! Received numerous compliments from family & friends alike, all commenting on how much younger I looked 😉

Oh gosh! I so want to go see Thomas and get my hair cut now!

I had a shortish hairstyle before, and most people said it was cute…

synical: From what I’ve seen it needs a heart shaped face to pull off a really short cut. Maybe opt for something modified?

akiki: I love short hair too! Easy to maintain and fuss free.

ysbaby: Its true that finding a good stylist is hard. Try shopping around until you get one you like.

yz: I’m still at the bob stage heh… I love short hair but taking it any shorter will make my face look huge!

Rinnah: Short hair makes anyone look cute esp you! 🙂

Gosh, how I wish I could pull it off too. Looks so chic! Tried it once, but my hair is stick straight chinak hair, so I ended up looking like a round faced durian. No more boy cuts, but am considering the bob again though 🙂

@ysbaby: Yup, as Paris has kindly answered for me, Thomas is the stylist we currently share. Went to him on Paris’ recommendation and I’m liking it a whole lot (only the place is a little out of the way from my normal haunts though). 😀

That haircut on me will give me an afro 🙁 That’s how big my hair will turn out if it’s that short. Sigh.

I LOVE her hair. I just saw this movie again and was reminded how much I love having short hair. I’ve basically got her haircut right now and that’s all that suits me – I can’t do long or it weighs my face down. If you can pull this off I say do it because it’s beautiful and so easy to care for.

Short hair styles keep women looking young and in the groove. Its a sign of youth ‘cuz no matter who you are or how old you are short hair knocks years off your age. Not to mention it brings out the more sensual side of a woman. I’m not sure if its on the inside being released out, or the outside seeing us as we always feel…like we never outgrew our early 20’s….. I cut my hair short and feel carefree and confident. I’m less uptight, and more spontaneous. I was born in ’61 and now I am 61. I’m puttin’ on the make up, ear rings and gettin’ that short hair cut all over again. I like the demi cut combined with the lizza menelli look. My mom always said, ”a little lip stick goes a long way ”And so does hairspray when your looking for volume. David Haas once told me,’ Never doubt curls around the face, it brings out the best in everyone, anywhere, all the time’. Try it on! And have fun with it!
