New Maybelline Water Shine Elixir Lipstick

June 23, 2007 Paris B 3 Comments

Here’s something new from the Maybelline stable – Water Shine Elixir Lipstick. I saw it in Watsons yesterday, retailing for about RM29.80. It might be a promotional price for this is a new item.

I played around with the testers on display and got a pretty good idea of what the product is like.

This lipstick is a liquid lipstick and honestly, it looked and felt more like a lip gloss to me. I don’t quite know why they called it a lipstick. Its shiny, no doubt about it, but sheer. As I said, essentially a lipgloss.

You twist the bottom of the lipstick and the colour gets pushed out the holes in the top. The applicator is hard plastic with a slanted tip. I did not quite like it for it was not easy to spread the lipstick and the top gets messy and gross. You can twist the bottom in the opposite direction and some (not all) of the colour gets sucked back into the tube. You still have to clean off the excess on the top though.

Colourwise, it was sheer. I tested some of the lighter colours and they don’t look like they’ll show up on my lips at all save for a sheer slick of glossiness and shine. The darker colours showed up sheer despite looking quite bright in the tube. If you like shine, then you might like it for it has the potential to look very glossy on. Don’t expect lots of colour pay off though.

I was actually going to buy one to test drive it further, but as I was choosing the colours, there was a blackout in the shop! So, I put the choices back. It might be a sign perhaps? 🙂

Oh dear… The one that I saw at the maybelline website was different and there were more slection of colors. Maybe it is because it was the new york site….

I went to watsons to check it out too. But they didn’t have the color I wanted to try. Very disappointing… THat is what I find annoying about singapore. So many things you cannot find!

Sigh… Guess I’ll keep on using my ZA lipstick. And when I finish it I’ll try Shiseido!

Weird though, me not big fan of Maybelline lip stuff although they have quite plenty of choices. I like glossy lipcolor, but the color does not stay at all. Which I find it quite annoying having to apply again and again.

I find the texture perfect, gelly and shine softly but not sticky and it smells like melon. It’s more pigmented than gloss and it lasts longer too. I only reapplied at mid-day after lunch. Toffee crush is a great everyday neutral. You can use it over lip pencil for more polished look without the heavy feel of lipstick. I’m considering trying other colors too. You really should check it out.
