I saw this Lunasol ad in a local magazine a couple of days ago, and I knew I had to spread the word.

You can now get a Lunasol Full Glamour Lips lipstick for only RM48 if you bring along any old lipstick to the counter. Lunasol lipsticks usually retail for RM88 each and you can just about get a Revlon lipstick at RM48 so why not try out Lunasol?

I was at a Kanebo counter at Lot 10 Isetan yesterday and can vouch for the credibility of this promotion. I did not buy any though as I did not have a spare lipstick on me and the available colours are limited. Still, if you do find a colour that suits you, this might be worth a look. Promotion is available while stocks last.

I’ve never tried the Full Glamour lipstick, but you can read my review on the Lunasol Intellectual Lips lipstick.

Coffret D’or vs Lunasol eyeshadow palettes

I had Shirley ask me in a comment below how Coffret D’or compared to Lunasol and what were the differences between the two. My simple answer at the time was that they were 2 totally different brands and therefore 2 very different products.

lunasol coffret d'or

I only have the eyeshadow palettes to compare so I will compare these two. I have reviewed the Lunasol and Coffret D’or palettes separately so you might want to read my thoughts on each palette there. This will be a purely comparison post. Review: Makeup: Lunasol Skin Modeling eyeshadow quad

This is a review of the Lunasol Skin Modelling Eyeshadow quad. It was part of Lunasol’s Sping 2007 collection. Lunasol is a department store brand under the Kanebo umbrella, and it is priced in the medium-high end spectrum. It is presently found in some countries in Asia - Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and now, Malaysia.

I got the Skin Modelling eyeshadow quad in EX-3 - Pink Beige and this is my review.

Lunasol Skin Modeling Eyeshadow palette Pink Beige

These are the colours in the quad (clockwise):

Shimmery White - highlighter shade. Shimmer.

Shimmery Pink - light pink with shimmer

Shimmery Peach - peach with shimmer

Shimmery Brown - brown with shimmer.

This is, as the name suggests, a pink quad. I’m not usually very good with pink shades on the eyes, I’ll be the first to admit. At best, I look like I just cried a bucket of tears and at worst, I look like a rabid rabbit.

However, I was taken in by this quad because when I swiped the colours on the back of my hand, I did not see the pink jumping out at me. It looked sheer yet sparkly. So, I got it.

The texture of these eyeshadows are excellant. They are smooth to the touch and apply like a dream. The powders are so fine that you don’t even feel it at all beneath your fingers and you don’t have powdery lids after applying it.

The Peach is supposed to be the colour shade with the pink and white being the highlighter and accent shades. However, I found that the pink could also be used as a colour shade for me, paired with just the white, and a dark liner to finish the look. Because my lid area is a bit small, piling on too many colours makes it all look muddy. The brown shade is a bit too light for a liner for me, but it does serve as a crease shade for definition. I still use another liner after everything. In fact, I would probably try the peach and brown as a combination one day for a neutral look.

I test drove this palette on a hot day when I was doing a lot of running around outside. No fading, no streaking. It stayed put the whole time. My eyelid area looked shimmery, but not over the top shimmery. Its shimmer you can wear to work without looking like you are going to a party after that.

It made me look awake which is great as I haven’t been having enough sleep lately. The pink actually helped with the awake look instead of being the other way around. I was impressed. I worked this for a neutral look. Its not dark enough to make it dramatic. No matter how you apply it, its just meant for a day look - an awake fairy look. Since it was released for spring, the colours are less intense as spring is usually for the light pastels.

Some people might not like the fact that the shadows are on the sheer side. I do however, as it allows room for error and it doesn’t create the impression of makeup piled on for accent, but rather, makeup put on to enhance.

The price however, is a tad prohibitive - RM160 for the palette. If you consider you are getting 4 eyeshadows in a metal case with 2 applicators that actually work, then its actually a pretty good deal. There are other colours available but this one attracted me most.

Will I get others? Maybe. The Fall collection from last year looked good. The colours were darker and more jewel toned. However, I’m moving away from intense colours to neutrals so maybe they won’t attract me so much now. Do I recommend it? Yes. But only if you like sheerer shimmery shades.

Pros: Sheer, Shimmery, Smooth texture, applicators are good

Cons: Expensive, Sheer

Rating: ★★★★½

Review: Makeup: Lunasol Intellectual Lips lipstick

I previously wrote about Lunasol finally making it to our shores. It is found exclusively at the Kanebo counter in Isetan in Lot 10 for now. Anyway, as part of their launching promotion, they had 15 exclusive sets of eyeshadow quads and lipsticks going at a special price of RM180.

I was lucky enough to pick up a set at this special price and this is a review of the lipstick - Intellectual Lips lipstick.

The lipstick comes in a square metal case. The metal is a brushed gold colour with the name Lunasol printed on the bottom part of the lipstick. When closed fully, it just looked like a little metal bar. Very elegant.

I got #10 - Pure Pink. The texture is nice. It is very smooth and feels weightless on your lips. There is no scent at all. Major plus in my book. The pigmentation is on the sheer side. #10 when swiped on the back of my hand looked like a dark rosy pink. On my lips it was a light pink with shimmer. It actually looked very natural and gave the impression that you weren’t slapping on the lipstick.
I usually can’t take pink on my lips but although this says “Pure Pink” its a rosier pink and is quite warm in tone which suits my colouring. I’d love to get more of these but the price tag is quite high at RM90 RM88 per lipstick. That’s the usual rate for most department store lipsticks though so if you are used to buying lipsticks from counters, then you probably won’t blink at the price.

If this was a stock and I was a remisier, I would call a buy on this lipstick. Absolutely worth it.

Pros: No scent, Sheer, Shimmery

Cons: Expensive

Rating: ★★★★★
