Scrumptious Saturday Vol. 18: Chowing down and Putting up at Hong Kong Disneyland

October 13, 2012 Paris B 23 Comments

Last week, I shared with you some tips for navigating Disneyland Hong Kong and how to maximize your time there. Well, this week lets take things a little more easy and I’ll show you some of the hotel where I stayed and the food I ate there. Its Scrumptious Saturday after all – relax a little! 😀

I put up at the Disneyland Hollywood Hotel which is one of 2 hotels in the Park. The hotel is done up in a slightly retro style reminiscent of Hollywood in maybe the 50’s with cinematic references throughout. If you have ever watched some of the original Mickey Mouse cartoons of Mickey as a movie director, this has that sort of feel.

The other hotel is the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel which is done up in a more Southern style. Both hotels are easily accessible to the Park with a free shuttle bus provided, that runs at very regular intervals so waiting time is at a minimum. Check in time is at 3pm but you are assigned a room, and you can leave your luggage with the porter, and head out to the park for the day, then come back and get into your room in the evening.

While you are sitting around the hotel and any building in Disneyland, you have to play this little game – Spot the Hidden Mickey! The designers have incorporated the 3 circles symbol of Mickey Mouse into the design and architecture of the buildings and its great fun to try to spot them. They are also incorporated into Disney cartoons and movies, if you didn’t realize it 😉 So tell me, do you spot the Hidden Mickey?

Travel Fun: 8 Tips to enjoy and get the most out of Hong Kong Disneyland

October 7, 2012 Paris B 45 Comments

Ah, I got back from Disneyland Hong Kong early in the week, and I have to say that I had a blast of a time! When you enter the hallowed grounds of any Disneyland park time just stands still. I literally felt all 8 years old again the moment I saw the grinning Mickey Mouse welcoming you as you enter the park 😀

When I was there, it was still Summer (and very very hot!) but it was at the end of September, and the Halloween decorations were already going up, and the place was starting to look festive. I would expect it to be a very fun place to visit in October when the weather cools down somewhat.

Insta-Updates: Rustic Street Food Delights

September 27, 2012 Paris B 26 Comments

When I travel, I love nosing into the little alleyways and byways, especially when I see steam rising from a street vendor’s stall. When I see lots of people sitting around little makeshift tables, I know there’s bound to be good (and cheap) food to be had!

I found one such alleyway on my most recent trip to Hong Kong. Nestled between two buildings in the busy shopping district of Mongkok was a little shop/stall and lots of people sitting down and slurping down bowls of hot noodles. When every table is full, and more and more people were stopping by for food, its a sign that I had to sit myself right down and have a go!

Headed to one of the Happiest Places on Earth – Disneyland Hong Kong!

September 16, 2012 Paris B 51 Comments

They say that Disneyland is the “Happiest Place on Earth”.

I say you are never ever too old for Disneyland 😀 The first time I visited a Disneyland it was EuroDisney outside of Paris back in student days. I went with friends and we went crazy! At the time, EuroDisney was new and it was, by comparison to the huge parks in the USA, small. I don’t know how much its expanded since, but I always remember the few days I was there. It was magical!

Like the kids around us, we were busy chasing down the various Disney characters to have our photos taken with them. I had to give in to the little tykes when we came upon Mickey and Minnie – it was impossible to get even a foot within the characters, never mind take a photo with them.

Its weird, because there we were, full adults jostling with kids for photos and autographs (yes, autographs!) Yet something in the air made us throw reason out the window. For the 3 days I was there, I was a kid again. And *squee!* I’m going to relive that magic! 😀

This time, I’m headed to the Disneyland park closest to me – Hong Kong Disneyland. Its my first time, and the opportunity was too good to pass up 😀 If anyone has been and has tips to share on what to see, do, and the best way to get around the Park, please please do share! Continue Reading
