Did you know that The Body Shop is 40 this year? Now you do! Now, you also know that I’m actually older than The Body Shop. It makes me weep a little inside. Ok, weep A LOT LOL! In celebration of 40 years and also in view of the Yuletide spirit, The Body Shop has come up with quite an interesting gifting strategy this year.

This year, for every Christmas gift set you purchase from The Body Shop, they have pledged to restore 1 square metre of rainforest and contribute to the protection of endangered creatures. In Malaysia, the conservation efforts will be the protection of the Malayan Tiger. This isn’t a one-off effort, as I learned, but one that will go on for 5 years – conservation is an on-going process.
With this worldwide effort (Yep, it’s a wordwide initiative, not just Malaysia) under their Bio-Bridge programme, The Body Shop hopes to rehabilitate and restore 75 million square meters of rainforest and protect them from poaching, exploitation and unsustainable harvesting. I think it’s a great initiative from a brand that is large enough to make a difference, and I applaud their efforts!
Let me also tell you a little about some of the gift sets available, and about this limited edition scent – Vanilla Chai.
This Christmas, aside from the plethora of gift-sets available for all budgets, there are also products in 3 limited edition scents.
- Frosted Berries – A sweet scent of a blend of rich, thick, sweet summer berries. If you love sweet, fruity scents, you will enjoy this one. I wasn’t such a fan, as I stay clear of sweet, fruity scents.
- Spiced Apple – A scent that brings to mind warm, cinnamon flavoured apple pie. The scent of sweet, fresh green apples, is tempered by the warm, spicy scent of cinnamon. This is unsurprisingly, my favourite scent!
- Vanilla Chai – I’m very fussy about how vanilla smells, and wasn’t expecting to like this, but I do! Instead of a rich, sweet vanilla, I get the merest hint of vanilla to warm up and bind the warm spicy scent of cardamom and cinnamon so I smell just like a spice market 😀

The Body Shop Vanilla Chai Festive Tin – RM119 | US$19 | £18
Each of the festive scents are available in individual full sized products and coffret sets, or you can also get them in an adorable festive tin shaped like an apple! You can’t see it very clearly, but when you screw the cover together, this one becomes a golden apple. Cute decorative item, and inside, you get mini sizes of shower gel, body lotion, body butter and body scrub. A perfect little gift, and it’s freaking cute under the tree! 😀
I can’t show you all the gift sets available, because there are a whopping 88 sets for you to choose from! Prices start from RM35 and go all the way to RM319, with beautifully packaged coffrets available in all The Body Shop categories – body care, skincare, fragrance, and makeup.

I have to say that this year’s gift sets do look pretty amazing and are all ready to be gifted. I don’t celebrate Christmas, but I remember once being far away from home during Christmas, and I received a little gift of a shower gel and body lotion duo from The Body Shop. It was the Dewberry scent that was all the rage, especially among college students back in the 90’s. You couldn’t MOVE for smelling Dewberry in the college campus corridors! 😛
I wasn’t a fan of the scent, but I was very touched by the thought, and I’ve always had rather fond memories of The Body Shop around Christmas time 😀
For an even more special gift, I’ll suggest you look out for these personalized body butters you will be able to get from The Body Shop.

I received this as a gift from the event I attended, but I checked and apparently, customers will be able to get their own customized body butters at Mid Valley very soon, for a limited time. I’m told it’s from 2 December 2016 but I’d recommend that you check in store.
It’s really cool, because you get to choose the endangered animal of your choice – I chose the tiger, naturally ROAR!! – and you can personalize it with the name of your recipient. In this case, I chose to put my name because who else could I be wild about? Me, of course! I’m narcissistic! 😉
Is The Body Shop on your Christmas gift list and who would you personalise your body butter for if you could?
I’d put them on my list, if only because I feel that they have upped the quality of their products in recent times (I was a fan for a long time, and then wasn’t, because I felt their products had dropped in quality, but it seems to have recovered, in quality and in image) and I like their initiative this year. It feels good to know I’d be making a friend happy with a gift, and a Malayan Tiger happy that it’s going to live a little longer 🙂

Nice thought there Body Shop. It is not easy to pledge for wildlife sustainability but that already earned my respect to them.
I felt the same way. I don’t usually like to talk about short-term CSR products cos it doesn’t serve a lot of long term information benefits, but this I felt was worth highlighting. Also, the holiday sets this year are so prettily packaged, they actually look very classy and not tacky at all!
At least with the Body Shop you know they publish a report that outlines all of the causes they are involved in. I like their holiday gift baskets. They are always so decorative.
TBS has really revamped themselves these couple of years. I’ve got to say I’m regaining my interest 😛
