Marc Jacobs Magic Marc’er : The Precision Pen Waterpoof Eyeliner that is a kind of magic!

June 30, 2014 Paris B 31 Comments

So, if I’m to be perfectly honest, the new Marc Jacobs Beauty line hasn’t been knocking my socks off. If I wore socks that is. They aren’t flying off my feet, at any rate. In fact, I’ve been rather underwhelmed by almost everything I’ve tried, so I haven’t even felt like talking about them (I know, I should and I’ll get round to it – just don’t hold your breathe lest you turn blue) So, the day I picked up the Magic Marc’er Precision Pen Waterproof Eyeliner, I had no expectations. Ok, I lie. I did. I expected it to be another disappointment.

But you know, someone needs to find my socks, because I’ve finally found something pretty impressive from the MJB line! 😀

For now, this liquid eyeliner comes in just 1 shade – Blacquer – which is touted to be the blackest black and to have extreme wear. I must say, they are accurate on all counts. I haven’t been wearing liquid eyeliner a lot, because I’m just not very good at controlling the pen. You know how it is.

You hold the liner pen with your shaky hands, draw a shaky line, try to rectify it and end up with eyeliner all over your lid, or a line thicker than Cleopatra’s. I’m just not good at it. But I have to say that this Marc Jacobs one, whilst hardly “magic” is relatively easy to use, draws a lovely dark black line and stays put all day. All. Damned. Day! No smudges, no running, no fading. Colour me impressed! 😀

First, use the Sulwhasoo First Care Activating Serum to boost the efficacy of your skincare

June 26, 2014 Paris B 15 Comments

Hellooo! Gosh, I’ve let the dust build up in here haven’t I? I’m a bad housekeeper, I am 😛

But come, let me dust off the inch thick dust on the blog and jump right in to tell you about a product that came highly recommended to me. By now, most of us will be familiar with the brand Sulwhasoo, which made its appearance on our shores some time last year. A few people had asked me what I thought of it, and I was almost embarrassed to say that I hadn’t tried anything from the brand. So I decided to remedy that, and asked around for recommendations. Almost overwhelmingly, I was told to try the First Care Activating Serum, a Sulwhasoo bestselling product.

What the First Care Activating Serum is, is a pre-serum. I know some people start rolling their eyes at this point. A serum is a serum! I almost hear you cry, what in the flying blazes is a pre-serum?!

Well, this is a concept not uncommon in many Asian ranges of skincare and is basically a product that you apply BEFORE you apply the rest of your skincare, so that it boosts the efficacy of your skincare. So, you can use it together with your other brands of skincare but you have to use it first.

There are different brands with similar products out there naturally, but Sulwhasoo promises that their First Care Activating Serum will give your skin a boost of moisture, refine your skin and balance and replenish nutrients, with their signature use of Jaeumdan and Jaeumboweedan, combinations of Korean Medicinal herbs blended into a prepared in a time-tested Poje method.

Everyone who told me to try this serum has nothing but raves for it, and how it helped refine their skin and make it look better. So, I took the plunge. Slightly half a bottle and a couple of months down the road, how did I find this?

Add a highlighted glow to skin with the limited edition Guerlain Aquarella Meteorites

June 20, 2014 Paris B 30 Comments

Apologies for the radio silence folks! Things have been quite hectic around here on many different fronts and I just haven’t been able to settle down to do much blog related stuff, nor if I’m to be honest, am I in the right frame of mind to. But, having stolen a few minutes to myself, I thought I’d do a quick, simple update. It’ll be mostly that, or silence from now on for a while, I’m afraid 🙁

While it seems awkward coming after my rant about limited edition makeup and the effect it has on us, I’m afraid I’m going to show you something limited edition today. Bad me. I know 😀

The item in question is something I have a very soft spot for – Guerlain Meteorites Light Reflecting Pearls of Powder. I confess to a weakness for these colourful balls and am almost on a mission to catch them all, like they were Pokemon 😛

One which seems to have sidled in almost unnoticed among the Spring/Summer collections is the Aquarella Meteorites. I only spotted them online fleetingly and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of hype or information about it, which surprises me. But when I spotted them on sale during the Sephora sale a while ago, I picked up a tub. At 20% off to boot! Yay! 😀

Your Say: Do you fall for the Limited Edition hype for cosmetics?

June 17, 2014 Paris B 49 Comments

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed year on year since I started having some interest in makeup, is that limited edition collection and products are on the rise. Not content with having just 4 seasonal collections a year, brands are now releasing little capsule collections from time to time, often with pretty packaging or embossing, and loudly proclaiming them to be “Limited Edition! Get it now before it’s gone!”

And you know what? They all fly off the shelves and make the companies a boatload of money. One of the worst culprits is MAC Cosmetics which seems to release a new limited edition collection practically every week, and everything seems to sell out before they even reach the counters. Clearly, pretty packaging and pretty products sell. But how much of it is truly due to the packaging and colours and how much of it is the allure of owning a limited edition item?

limited edition makeup

I was thinking about this quite recently, when there was a slew of Spring and Summer limited edition offerings from all the major cosmetics brands in the market. I would see all the pretty colours and designs, the interesting combination of colours in palettes, the intricate embossing flooding Instagram and blogs… and I felt numb.

I picked up one or two items myself, but I realised that barring a few brands that consistently churn out quality products, many of these limited edition items are less impressive than their permanent counterparts. So I got to wondering if you are swayed or influenced to buy something because it is a limited edition product? Or because it is so limited in supply and because people build up the hype to the extent that you just have to own it even if you never use it?
