Mary Kay – not a brand I am familiar with, although its a name I have heard through the years. Mary Kay, as many of us know, is a brand of skincare and colour cosmetics that is sold by way of direct sales, through sales representatives they call Independent Beauty Consultants. I suppose I never tried anything from this brand, because I never knew anyone selling it! I just learnt that if I were really interested, I could actually call up the offices locally and be put in touch with someone. Fascinating. Your beauty supplies can come to you!
I recently found out that a friend works in Mary Kay (which is how the brand came on my radar a little while ago) and I also recently attended the launch of the new Mary Kay Timewise Plus+ Skincare range which consists now, of the Intensive Serum and Correcting Eye Cream.
Both these products, made in Korea, are targeted at helping skin look lifted, feel firmer and restore volume. This would therefore be in the “anti-aging” skincare category and you know what that means – some (ok ok many of you) may not need it just yet 😉
The TimeWise Plus+ Regena-Firm Intensive Serum is a very light serum that absorbs very quickly into skin. With regular use, the serum is supposed to help skin look more lifted especially around the jawline, and firms skin and softens the appearance of lines and wrinkles. How this is done, is through an ingredient they call Regena-Firm Complex, which consists of plant stem cells to firm skin, Tripeptide 1 to promote skin repair, and hyaluronic boosters to promote the production of hyaluronic acid so skin is more moisturized and plumped up.
The product comes in a pump, and as I have mentioned before, the serum is light and absorbs very quickly into the skin. I haven’t personally used it so I can’t tell you if it works. I will tell you that I haven’t been switching around my skincare very much these days, because I am really very happy with my current skincare regiment and am very very loathe to change, not because all these new products aren’t good stuff (they probably are) but I just don’t feel like stopping what I’m using now. Conundrum? Yes. Will I stop telling you about these new stuff? No, because you naturally deserve to know 😉 Plus, I might actually try it some day.
As for the TimeWise Plus+ Correcting Eye Cream, it too has the Regena-Firm Complex to help eyes look more lifted. As with many eye creams, it promises the usual stuff of diminishing eye bags, dark circles and fine lines. The tube comes with a metal spatula tip that you can use to gently massage the eye area. The cool metal can help depuff eyes. I have tried a similar sort of applicator in a different product and whilst I wasn’t all that sold on the eye cream (very few eye creams wow me or lure me in long enough to actually use them) I loved the applicator. It was cool against the skin, and that actually works a little like a cool teaspoon – very good in the mornings 🙂
Because this brand isn’t readily available in a store I can walk into to purchase, I must say that is quite a leap of faith to have to plonk down the asking price for something you may not be very sure of. Its different from a counter brand, in that you can’t just walk to a counter to buy it, or pick up samples to try to see if you may like it. I suppose that would be the biggest stumbling block, for me.
Have you tried anything from Mary Kay? Or maybe are you by any chance a Mary Kay rep?
If you have something good to recommend from the brand, I’m all ears. I must say that I’m giving some of their colour cosmetics a shot and you know what? They aren’t half bad!

i used to be their IBC. Love the blush. Not sure if it is still the same formula. Was about 6 years ago :p My ex lady boss love the lipstick color so much, she bought 6 from me at 1 go..

I tried some of their colour cosmetics and I must say, it is quite impressive. I am not sure about their skincare. I tend to be a bit more fussy about skincare but 6 lipsticks at a go! I gotta try!

I bought a couple of eye products from Mary Kay. I’ve a friend who’s selling stuff from them. It don’t work on me. They have been sitting in the cabinet of my bathroom for the past year. =( About time I guide them to the Dustbin.

LOL Was it the colour makeup or skincare? I tend not to like using skincare if its hard to replenish stock
Chia Callie says
It’s skincare. Well, I’ve not gone back since. I agree with you that I tend to stay away if it’s hard to replenish. If it really works for my skin, it’s no trouble for me. I can always go back to the lady who helped me the first time round.
On another note Paris, have you tried ampoules from De Soins? Couldn’t sleep last night and went browsing. Read a bit on it but doubt its effect. Have you tried or have you friends who have tried?
Paris B says
Hmm… I haven’t come across De Soins before, sorry!

Oh gosh their mascara is amazing! I got it from Ebay US for less than RM50 (I believe it’s around RM80 here) and it really helps to make my lashes look thicker and fuller!! And for my wedding, my MUA actually applied their lippie and gloss on me and I have to say, am very impressed with the color payoff and staying power. I have yet to try their skin care products though but their cosmetic products definitely gets thumbs up from me.

Mascara? Ok I gotta give it a try, Cas 🙂 I think their colour makeup isn’t bad too 😀

Just tried it out last night! The zamac (I think that’s what it was called) tip with the eye cream is kinda fun to use 😀
Paris B says
Haha (I clearly had no idea what it was called either 😛 ) but yes, it does help de-puff eyes somewhat 😉

Wow I haven’t used anything from Mary Kay in a LONG time–I remember really liking some of their stuff though. I’m not sure where you can still buy it in the U.S. I remember there used to be Mary Kay lady–just like the Avon lady–and that’s where I used to buy my stuff. I’m sure there’s a website, but I miss the Mary Kay lady! Ah, the good old days 😛
Paris B says
Haha good old days, Becca? You’re too young to talk about the good old days! LOL! 😀 I don’t know anyone who’s an Avon lady too! But there were other direct selling companies locally that were very popular too but mostly for household stuff 🙂
