I’m sorry. I couldn’t think of a clever title and the only thing that popped into my head was this – a lovely salute to the return of Game of Thrones (although I’ve yet to “source” Season 2 😉 )
The Dior 5 Couleur Eyeshadow Palette in 191 Icy Lights is part of their Iridescent range, which means that every single colour in the palette is iridescent (read: shimmer). This limited edition palette is part of the Diorsnow Icy Halos collection of 2012 and is reminiscent of almost all the Diorsnow makeup eyeshadow palettes – super sheer and super shimmery.
It does look very pretty in the pan doesn’t it? 5 delicate looking shimmer shades that are cool in tone. Perfect for that icy feel. I will warn you however, that they are sheer. Even I was surprised at just how sheer they are. They in fact, look nothing like what you see in the pan.
The 5 colours swatched on the back of my hand look quite indistinguishable, if I’m to be honest.
Dior Icy Lights eyeshadow palette L-R: Light pink (light shimmer with pink tint), Light purple (shimmer with purple tone), White (shimmer white), Light blue (shimmer with blue tint), Light silver-grey (shimmer with grey tint)
The colours have a bit of holographic effect in that the shimmer has a tint of the shade it is supposed to be, without actually appearing that way on the skin. It is something that is either love or hate I’m afraid!
The colours are also so light that they will only really show up as colour on light skin tones. If you have darker skin then this isn’t something you will like, or should use a lot of because it may just apply pure shimmer and you will be frustrated.
In terms of shimmer, I was impressed. The shimmer is fine reflective shimmer, not chunky glitter. And it applies quite smoothly and evenly with a brush. I have no gripes in terms of quality and texture. It will just be the pigment (or lack of) that will put people off but with a name like Icy Lights, its pretty much to be expected 😀
Here’s what it looks like on my eyes. I only used 3 colours – Blue, Grey and Purple. You can see that its shimmery but not glittery and that the colour is very subtle. Even the grey barely shows up, but I liked it. Its a lovely soft ethereal look around the eyes. Another way I would use this is to layer the colours one on top of another. You get another set of very pretty colours too. For me, the texture does not get chalky although I layer it quite a bit, and neither is there fall out.
I did line my eyes with black pencil along the inner rim (tightline) and on the edge of the lower rim. I did not line the top lid to keep to the ethereal theme.
I think this one is a lovely palette but I will appreciate that it isn’t one that is for everyone and especially not if you like bright pigmented colours. As part of a snow and ice collection, it fits perfectly 🙂
In a nutshell
Dior Icy Lights (191) Eyeshadow palette is a limited edition eyeshadow palette that is part of the Icy Halos collection released together with the Diorsnow skincare. This used to be Asia only but I believe you may be able to find it in Europe and the USA now. The Icy Lights palette is an iridescent eyeshadow palette with 5 shimmer shades. Texture is smooth and shimmery with no glitter or fall out, but it is also very sheer and less pigmented. I believe it will be best appreciated by those who are fair skinned as it may apply as just shimmer on darker skin tones. It is beautiful, but may not appeal to everyone depending on your tastes 🙂
Pros: Smooth texture, No fall out or glitter, Iridescent appearance on skin is very delicate and ethereal,
Cons: Sheer shimmery colours may not appeal to everyone, Pricey for 5 light shimmer shades
Here are 2 full face shots to show how I wear the Icy Lights palette. This is the “Look at me, I’m such a poseur!” picture where you can just about see the hint of colour on the eyes. I went for the “I just stepped in from the cold” look which I think friends in the Northern Hemisphere may be tired of, seeing as to how its not yet showing signs of Spring and the impending Summer in some countries.
Also featuring: Diorblush Pink in Love, Dior Addict Icone lipstick (681) and Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Crystal Frost Lipgloss (the blue one), RMK Liquid foundation #201 and YSL loose powder
And here is a better representation of the colour on my eyes without that cutesy “I’m so cute I kill myself” pose 😛
What say you? Does a sheer shimmery palette like Dior Icy Lights appeal to you? I remember the palette from previous years and they all sort of look the same. So I think if you already have one, you don’t need another. Its pretty, but not necessary. Still, gotta love the representation, right? 😀

You look GORGEOUS!!! I’d wear this in the winter though! To that ice skating party I never get invited to haha!
Paris B says
Aww thank you Tracy! Next time, you throw the ice skating party and invite me and I’ll bring the palette 😉
xin says
it looks really sheer and light! but it does give glow to your eyes and on the bright side, any mistakes will never be spotted!
Paris B says
Yes! The inability to see mistakes is a plus point! 😀
Applegal says
When I first saw the palette and the swatches, I thought: “Aiyah, not practical lar! Gonna look like disco ball!” but you pulled it off! It looks really wearable on you! Now I’m going to try and emulate the look with my mostly unused Bobbi Brown shimmer block. . .
Paris B says
Glad to have inspired you, Applegal 😀 I don’t know if this will work with the Bobbi Brown palette but try layering the colours over black. It should help the colours transform. These ones look quite pretty over black 😀
Shandi Naugle says
It looks pretty on, but the swatches worry me. Dior is expensive, and it just looks too sheer to be worth it.
Paris B says
Yep but it suits the theme Dior was going for – Icy 😉
Nikki says
wow PB! You are an Ice Queen! So pretty and the smile was just naturally gorgeous!
Okay, enough about you! hahahahah
It seems not so pigmented but it gives such a lovely aura on your overall look!
Paris B says
LOL Thanks Nikki 😀 Its not a pigmented palette that’s for sure! But its pretty for that barely there look 🙂
Sam says
Looks lovely on you! I’m afraid it’s a bit too sheer for me.
Paris B says
As with everyone else 😉 Thanks!
Larie says
You are looking so pretty, Paris!!! This one looks a bit sheer/shimmery for me, but it is so pretty to look at, haha.
S. says
It looks too light for my skin but it’s really beautiful Paris! xx
Sunny says
Ooo you look cute with it, but for my winter NC30 skin tone I suspect this is already going to be very challenging. That and I prefer more opaque color, so this is probably not my thing! Still, it’s great to see you work this palette!
Paris B says
I think this will at best be a highlighter palette for many except for the very fair 🙂 I like the barely there look sometimes and opaque colours scare me because I’m not very good and I make a lot of mistakes! hehe…

Hi Paris, just “found” you yesterday and subscribed immediately after realizing that you[re very worth it … I really like this palette from what you have presented to us here- it’s gorgeous (and so are you, by the way) and there’s not one thing wrong with sheer, after all, it’s to be “Icy” and that it seems to be!! Thank you so very much for the post. I eagerly anticipate more from you … xoxo Beth in Pgh 😉
Paris B says
Hi Beth! Welcome and thank you for your comment 😀 I have to agree with you that the idea behind this palette was the whole Icy feel which I think Dior captured very nicely. Hope to see you around more in the future 😉
Jyoan says
I can’t wear Icy looks. T___T I wish I could. One look at the Dior, my mind goes, “it and I are not meant to be”. I have been trying to perfect this winter-spring look for days on end now. Can’t wear means can’t wear. LOL.
But you always pull off these light shimmer palettes very well. I am very intrigued by your poses in recent posts. I could never think of that!
Paris B says
That’s because you have a warm skintone Jyoan 😀 I can’t wear the beautiful warm sunset looks that so many lovely ladies pull off so I have to go for icy hehe… 🙂 Believe it or not, the pose in this post came about by mistake. I was fooling around and after I scanned my shots, this jumped out at me and I picked it 😀 Next time you take shots, fool around a bit and you might be surprised 😉
shirley says
Gosh!!!! Can’t say …u r in ur 30s. so cute…so young.. very pretty. You have paired the palatte with a nice lipstick.
Paris B says
Aww thank you Shirley 😀 Icone is a very pretty lipstick shade on its own. Do check it out!
Jennifer says
Super like! The shimmer looks good and the shades are just so pretty 🙂
Paris B says
They are! 😀 But definitely not for everyone 🙂
milktea says
It’s not a ‘meh’ but I’m not sure what Dior meant for this palette to do. Maybe it shows up better if test the palette in person. But… I love your lip colour today! The blue lip gloss has done something to the Dior Icone No. 681, but something good! 🙂 I checked out your older post and the Icone is now red-der and less bubble-gum pink. Great way to give your existing lippies a new look! Cheers! 😉
Paris B says
I think Dior went for the icy sheer look which if someone doesn’t have highlighters, this is an excellent bunch of highlighters to have. But I can imagine that the majority will be going “huh?” 😀 The lipstick may be lighting too but there was a slight change in colour but not by very much. Icone is a very pretty shade to start with anyway 😀
Beauty Mish Mash says
The palette itself looks beautiful, but I’d probably find the eyeshadows too sheer 🙁 It looks lovely and subtle on you though!:)
Paris B says
Thanks! Yes the colours are sheer but I think that fits the icy theme – just not very suitable as an overall palette perhaps 🙂
gio says
Looks so pretty on you! But the colors are too sheer for me, especially considering how pricey the palette is.
Paris B says
Thanks Gio 🙂

fashionista paris, you love your dior addict icone hor! i think i have been seeing that name quite frequently? or maybe i was browsing too many of your old post of Dior lipsticks and such. Contemplating in getting 1 dior lipstick, especially the serum de rouge 😛
Paris B says
Icone is a very pretty colour 🙂 I actually use it quite often because its conveniently placed in the front of my drawer LOL! I should rotate my lipsticks more 🙂 Serum de Rouge is very pricey and the colours aren’t as exciting as Addict but they are great if you have dry lips. When I have chapped lips, I slick on Serum de Rouge and it works a treat!
Beauty Box says
Thanjs for the review. It looks lovely on you…but I think I’ll have to pass on these pale pastels this season as I’m way too dark for them!
Paris B says
Yeah on darker skintones, I imagine this will just apply as pure shimmer 🙂
