Do you baby your bags or accessories?
For a bag snob like myself, its a perfectly valid question (Yes I’m a self-proclaimed snob 😉 ) Expensive or light coloured bags shouldn’t be sullied by dirt on the floor or just about any surface. But it could very well apply to other accessories like wallets or shoes or jewellery, if that’s your thing.
Do you baby them?
By “baby” I mean look after them well, clean them after use whenever possible, store them in their dustbags or in proper cases/pouches/boxes/shelves.
In my case, I do. I almost never put my bags down on the floor, wherever I am and whatever the brand the bag may be. If I’m dining out at a decent restaurant, I have my bag placed on a chair next to me. In fact, most restaurants will offer this. Some I’ve been to actually offer me a stool or chair to place my bag on, which can then be placed next to me, or under the table. Very practical. I’ve been to a restaurant that have a “bag cover” – a cloth cover they place over your bag so it doesn’t accidentally get food on it (or pickpocketed). It wasn’t local though.
If I’m out and about indulging in my street food, which I love, my bags are kept on my lap. I never let them out of my sight or grasp. For safety as well for cleanliness.
I do clean my bags after use, when I’m switching to a different one, but not everyday. I’m not that paranoid 😛 I’m a little more careless with wallets. I must admit I don’t take very good care of my wallets in terms of cleaning them, but I am careful with how I use them and where I place them (on my lap usually).
I’m not careful about shoes at all unfortunately. That’s probably why I don’t own many or any very expensive shoes. They don’t get enough care 😛
What about you? Are you blasé about your bags or accessories or do you baby them? Are you more particular if they are expensive items as opposed to a less expensive one?

I normally put my bags on my lap or on a chair next to me. I do get paranoid though when it’s on a chair – too many horror stories of snatch thieves. I find I am more careful with pricier bags like Chanel or really expensive leather bags. I get more picky about it getting scratched. Bit lax with canvas/nylon type bags like Longchamp or cheaper Gucci/Prada/Marc Jacobs which I am not too fussed if it gets dirty.
I never place my bag on a chair if I’m out in the open or in a cafe or busy areas etc. Only in nice quiet restaurants where I can keep an eye on it at all times 🙂 And yes, I’m also a little more careful with the pricier bags – fair enough reason to I guess 😉
I definitely baby them all, shoes even. I have all my bags in their dust/cloth bags and keep them in my wardrobe. The only place they might be on the floor is at home and that’s if the floor’s clean and shiny. Shoes I keep ’em in their boxes. At restaurants, I keep my bags with me. If I don’t have an extra seat for it, it sits with me on my chair. LOL! Talk about pampering.
Haha! Your bags are well looked after it seems! Yay!
I baby my bags too! 😀
Btw sorry for posting this here, but does anyone know what happened to jojoba? She seems to have disappeared from cyberspace! *misses her*
She’s told me she doesn’t want to blog or have an online presence anymore hence the shutting down of her accounts. Perhaps she’ll change her mind in future but for now that’s it 🙂
Thanks Paris 🙂 I was worried that something happened to her!
I’ve been to some places which provided me with a bag chair – a miniature version of the chair I am sitting on, just for my bag. It’s quite cute actually.
I went to this cafe, which ran out of chairs (!!! How can they not have enough chairs), so they offered me a baby chair for my bag instead. It as awkward, cuz I had a laptop bag, a shoulder bag and my friend had her bag too. Surely all these do not fit nicely into a baby seat.
A bag chair! That’s such a cute idea 😀 Its funny they provided you with a baby chair though – I think they thought it would be the same thing 😉
I *do* take care of my bags once in a while, treat them with leather conditioner and so on. My everyday bags are LV Speedy 30 and Neverful MM both in Damier – low maintenance bags and great for rainy or snowy days 😀 My other designer bags are in their original dust bags and boxes. The one I take extra good care is my Miu Miu. My husband doesn’t get the point of owning expensive handbags. He thinks a 1000EUR bag and a plastic bag is the same for me because one time he ‘caught’ me putting a takeaway ‘schnitzel’ into one of my LV bags *lol* when we’re at the restaurant.
LOL at an ex bag being the same as a plastic bag 😀 I have to admit that some bags are less “worthy” than others (to me) or if they are hardier then I’m a little less careful. Never yet put a takeaway in any of my bags though 😉
