Giving Kao Asience a second chance with Shine Therapy Hair Care

April 7, 2011 Paris B 15 Comments

I was offered the opportunity to try the Kao Asience Shine Therapy hair care range a while ago. Not having success with the Asience Inner Shine range, I was a little apprehensive. Would it kill my hair? It took me a while to steel myself enough to actually use it.

You might have seen this range in the local pharmacies already. The pink bottles are hard to miss.

Happily, I will tell you that this range of Asience Shine Therapy hair care did NOT kill my hair. Well, it did not spin my hair into straw at any rate.

Like the Inner Shine line (yellow bottles), Shine Therapy has a strong scent. Its that sort of floral scent that lingers and you either love it for giving you that just washed feel, or hate it for being too scented. My advise is to take a big hearty sniff before buying.

The shampoo isn’t very runny and I found that it lathers up quite well with just a little, and it cleans the hair quite well too. The conditioner and treatment are quite similar for me. They are both thick and both leave your hair feeling quite tangle free. As they all smell alike, you might expect the rather strong scent to remain on your hair after washing.

I used these shampoos straight for about a month, and I did not notice my hair drying out which was very fortunate. My hair was nice and manageable, but I did not notice it being any shinier. This Shine Therapy range is also targeted “damaged, dull & brittle coloured, rebonded or permed hair”. In other words, hair that has been chemically treated.

I can’t say its been amazing for my hair, but it wasn’t bad either. The only fly in the ointment is that after a month’s use straight, I discovered my hair dropping a little more than usual. I didn’t use anything else in the interim so I’m guessing this range might have contributed to the hair loss, so I’ve stopped using it for a while now.

Pros: Inexpensive, Hair feels clean, smooth and tangle free

Cons: Scent is rather strong, Appeared to contribute to my hair loss

I do like how this line detangles my hair without it drying out the way Deep Nourish/Inner Shine did, so what I still do sometimes, is use the shampoo and conditioner once in a while. This way, I figure there is no build up, and there won’t be excess hair loss 🙂 Also, I will actually use it up 😛

Have you tried this one? Does it work for you?

Paris B

The Kao Asience Shine Therapy shampoo and conditioner retails at RM14.90/220ml and RM26.80/530ml and the Treatment retails at RM26.80/180g at most major pharmacies and supermarkets.

Thing is, I don’t have a hair loss problem! Hence my concern when my hair started dropping more than usual after using this one. Sorry I can’t help with hair loss cures.

So Paris, I was just wondering, what are the shampoo’s, conditioner’s and hair treatment’s that you do like and would recommend to people? I am currently using the whole of Pureology Super Straight Line and let me tell you, it ain’t doing anything magic to my hair except making the $$ in my checking account become less and less as 1 bottle of the stuff costs RM100+. I always get suckered in by brand names. *sigh*

I haven’t tried Pureology although I have heard a lot of good things about it too. So sorry it didn’t work for you since its pricey 🙁 I usually have quite good luck with normal off the shelf hair care. I liked Dove when I was using it, so I might go back to that one. On the other end of the scale, I really like Kerastase hair treatments and I’m thinking of trying their regular hair care (Redken doesn’t work for me though). I still haven’t found a brand/hair care product that I love so much I have to get everyone to try it so I’m really still looking myself 😀

I was with mum at Watsons last week and I saw them. Mum said she wanted to try them after we’re done with our shampoo in the bathroom. But if it could lead to hairloss, don’t think I’d be interested! Lol! 😀

my hair falls a lot, particularly in the shower. for me the only shampoo/conditioner set that worked at keeping it not falling out all the time is the John Frieda Root Awakening (green tube) for Breakage Prone hair. however it’s not super moisturizing and while my hair fell out less and it’s not DRYING, it also didn’t make my hair as shiny as other asian brands does :\ not sure if you can find this shampoo over at where you are though, but in US it’s pretty cheap (around $5 a bottle).

i’m looking for a good asian brand that works at keep hair ON my head. any recs? :\

I don’t think we get John Frieda here but I haven’t had a lot of luck with Asian brand hair care to be honest!

i used the inner shine rage before, how to describe the smell… kind of like flora and close to “Indian” smell???
the result just so so… i thought will be amazing just like the model appear in the advertisement. Nowadays i switch to hand&shoulder so far so good… my hair actually treated well… i am still using hair&shoulder hair fall rage…i think is because of sunflower seed oil maybe ^^

I tried these range and hated them the first time. Went back to tsubaki. But after deciding to give asience another go, to my surprise they seem to work and hair looks better with more volume. I’m confused now haha..

Bought tsubaki by accident and am loving it!!! Not gonna buy that Scwarkopf (can’t spell) anymore… hahaha… that giant conditioner costs me RM110 per bottle~~
The fragrance of the Tsubaki conditioner stays for a loooong time, which I like 🙂

glad that this ascience line worked out for ya! I still have samples of the gold one~~ improved formula of course… yet to try them out as their first ones made my hair horribly dry

An “I’ll be out all day and need my makeup to An “I’ll be out all day and need my makeup to stay on” look 😅 Super simple and using stuff I already own. How many do you recognise? 😅

For the base I think the key is the Nars setting powder which is basically a silica powder. Many brands have similar white powder for setting. I did this same look yesterday and it barely budged/faded by evening. Only lipstick needed a little topping up 😊

And this is about all the makeup I can handle these days 😂 no eye makeup cos I can’t be arsed 🤪

Posting for posterity because I like this photo 😆 Also hello! 😜

It’s interesting that when I meet people they always ask me “Are you still blogging?” which tells me they don’t read my blog anymore (cos if they did they’d know I am lol! Weekly generally, but still writing) Yet I don’t blame them because a lot of social credit is placed on one’s Instagram presence. This I fear, is an area I am lacking. I pop in every now and then, share stories that are totally unrelated to what people follow me for, then wonder why they unfollow lol! Other times, spider webs gather in the corners of my unused account. I don’t blame them. Not everyone wants to know what my dogs are up to 😜

Anyway I make no apologies. It’s ok if you follow. It’s ok if you don’t. It’s ok if you’re interested in stuff I do. It’s ok if you’re not. Life goes on for both you and I and ultimately, we just both want it to be happy. So do what makes you happy 😊 I’ll still share my beauty finds and I still blog once a week. I may share what I’m up to from time to time, or I may not. I can tell you that I’m keeping busy and that I have a lot on my plate, none of it glamorous unlike that of most content creators/influencers. It’s too boring for most for me to share here so I’ll just share the good bits - as Instagram intended 😂

But if you want to find me, you’ll know how 😊

The review for the product is somewhere on the blog mywomenstuff.com
Yes I know many of you are terrified of lizards 🦎🫣

But I liked this sunscreen - for the body. Even though it left a white cast. Even though it is hard to remove. It kept my arms protected through a weekend of brutal sun exposure and I survived without burning! ✌🏻
