Did you know that you can tell a woman’s real age by looking at her neck and her hands? Don’t believe me? Look at those photos of celebrities with their pretty smooth young looking faces and then drop your gaze to their necks and hands. You might notice a marked difference in wrinkles, sagginess and “crumply” skin in those 2 areas.
Now hands, we know how to protect – hand creams are the way to go. But what about the neck? There aren’t many creams sold to women just for the neck right? I showed you one before from L’Oreal and there are other brands out there too but its not pushed very much.
But do we really need a cream just for the neck? I’m going to tell you my answer is no 🙂 But I’ll tell you how to ensure the age of your neck matches your face 😉
Its simple. When you apply your face serums and moisturisers, extend it down to your neck!
When I apply my skincare, I always make sure I continue on to my neck and I believe it helps. After all, the skin on your neck is pretty much an extension of the skin on your face. And if you are using an anti-aging product or serum on your face, why not on your neck too?
It doesn’t cause me to use extra products. I just use whatever’s left over after I’ve applied them on my face.
Its early days yet, but whilst the Dior 21 Night Renewal serum may not be showing anything drastic on my facial skin, I believe its doing wonders for my neck. In just the 1st week, the skin on my neck felt firmer.
So don’t forget your neck when you apply your skincare. When you get older, you’ll thank me for this advice LOL! 😀 Now if only I was as diligent about my hands….
Do you already do this, or do use use a separate cream for your neck? Might this be something you might think of doing from now? 🙂

the pix of the turkey gave me a big jolt in the morning! thanks for the info 🙂
ParisB says
LOL shock tactics! 😉
xin says
i do extend whatever i put on my face to my neck, but unfortunately i have wrinkly neck by default 🙁 now u wont call me a turkey right?
ParisB says
*gobble gobble* 😉 You don’t have a wrinkly neck la…
Sandra says
I used to throw away products that don’t go well with my oily skin. Now, whichever products ‘rejected’ by my face, I will generously apply on my neck & chest. 🙂
ParisB says
That’s a very smart move! Thanks for sharing the tip
Nadia says
I’ve been doing this out of habit really. It’s just so much easier to use the same cream and extend it all the way down to my neck. One of the girls who did my facial before gave me this tip years ago and I’m glad I took heed of her advice for fear of risking a turkey’s neck! hehe…
ParisB says
Yes! Rather than use a separate cream, just use what we already use, and it just makes it easier to remember in one step instead of in 2 😉
Jenn says
I’m already doing this! I just apply whatever moisturizer i’m using from my neck all the way to my chest. I do use extra product though – i’m terrified of my neck being “wrinkly” ever since my mum pointed that out on a lady we saw who has amazing on her face, but her neck does show some neglect! >.<
I also find that using the same whitening moisturizer for my face and neck does help to keep my face and neck / chest the same tone too! 😀
ParisB says
Great tip about the whitening products! You’re right about that you know. Can’t have a nice bright face and then a dull yellow neck. eeks!
Jessica says
Hohoho, me thinks that even the turkey wants smoother neckline…I do the same too, applying the ‘leftover’ moisturiser and serum down to the neck.
ParisB says
For all we know, the saggier and more wrinkly the sexier for turkeys! 😉
Natalie says
I am with Sandra… Whatever serum/cream that got rejected by my face (at this moment, it is Dior 60/80xp serum), will become my neck product 🙂
ParisB says
Your face rejected Dior 60/80xp serum! The overnight serum was nice for me. I might use up the remaining Diorsnow serum on my neck… but then I might risk a pale neck vs face which would be really weird huh?
Natalie says
Haha.. DNA thing? It didn’t brighten my face at all, so maybe your face would be safe? Yeah, Dior 60/80xp serum did nothing. I did not like how it is a bit sticky either. I bought Clinique Laserwear after your review and I am loving it! It doesn’t do anything drastic, but I can see things (pores, fine lines) are softened.. Or maybe my face needs new products every now and then? Grr
Charlene says
I only slap on some of the remaining moisturizer/serum it when i rmembr to 😛
Time to mk it a habit! 🙂
But my big face absorbs most of it, nt much remainder haha
ParisB says
LOL! Then use a little more! 😉
AnT says
I am already going this since teenage days, unfortunately, I still have wrinkly neck like a teenage Turkey 🙁
Got to try out Dior 21 soon 😀
AnT says
Sorry. Typo error. I mean I am already doing this 😛
ParisB says
Will you try the Dior 21 Night serum? I just finished vial #1 last night! So am starting vial #2 next. I’m sure you dont have a wrinkly saggy neck. But I know some people who have more lines on their necks. Sometimes we can’t fight genetics 🙁
AnT says
LOL Sorry dearie, I guess it’s more lines on my neck 😛
Yes indeed. I must try this Dior 21 Night Serum if can make the lines smoother and less visible 😀
Hanny says
If only I would remember to do this more often… Thanks for the tip!
ParisB says
Yep gotta start early!
synical says
I do this when I remember to; which is pretty often, but you know…
Try watching heavily made-up ladies on TV whose face and neck don’t match colour-wise – that drives me nuts.
ParisB says
HAHA! I sometimes channel surf to RTM2 just to see the awful (and I mean seriously awful) makeup in the local dramas. The face and neck not matching thing you mentioned is very prevalent there!
angel says
Lols.. i always neglected my neck. If only when i remember i’ll apply some moisturizer on my neck. Hope i do it more often from now on…
ParisB says
Once you get into the habit, you won’t have to think about it 😉
yuki says
Hahaha… turkey necks!! I use the free bonus items I get from Clinique on my neck because they usually give Extra moisturising creams… Not suitable for my face cuz I have a combi/oily skin type… I’m currently using the Moisture Surge 🙂
ParisB says
Smart move! Our necks can usually handle richer creams and this way nothing goes to waste yay!
tass says
Wooo.. the ‘disturbing’ image really make me combat my laziness and will diligently start to cleanse and apply serums and moisturizers till the neck 😀
ParisB says
Teehee… these shock tactics work eh? 😉
Lemon Tart says
The picture was so funny I was laughing by myself! =) I also extend face creams to my neck like you do ( I usually put extra on my face so the excess would go to my neck). Haven’t seen any neck creams anywhere.
ParisB says
Teehee… I only know of the one by L’Oreal but I’m sure there are others. Just not as strongly marketed
Ny says
Haha I’ve just started this habit recently. I extend my moisturiser and sunscreen towards my neck and decollete, put some on the back of my neck too. I’m that paranoid 😛
ParisB says
The back of the neck! I never thought about that!
Mari Ohira says
I don’t usually extend the creams I use on my face to my neck since I find it quite a waste of good material, hehehe! But I use on my neck any cream that is not suitable to my facial skin type: from body lotions to eyecreams! Not that I see any difference – then again, I’m not in my thirties yet so I don’t see how it’d improve!^^
ParisB says
That’s a clever move too! At least you’re getting some use out of creams that wouldn’t work otherwise. Your neck will probably thank you later 😉
Alla says
Amazing celebrity makeup artist Lisa Eldridge has been preaching this in her skincare videos. I always do this, and what my mummy has been teaching me since i was 4 – never use downwards stroke when washing/applying cream to your neck. Always upwards to keep the skin as tight as possible.
ParisB says
Oh yes that’s a good tip – always use upward strokes to defy gravity! 🙂
mrsdjones says
Paris dear, I have this problem too! it is hereditary lah! Got it from my mom! I have lines previously and now getting saggy by the day. Huhuu~ Now religiously applying skincare on my neck too!
